Why do people love macs? You pay almost double the price of a PC for obsolete hardware that runs a FREE open source OS that is BRANDED to say Apple? REALLY???? WHY???? Just buy a 3 year old PC and run Ubuntu for the same experience. Maybe if you put a shiny titanium case around your 3 year old PC, it would make you feel better.
@smithgroup420123 1: it is NOT an open source OS, 2: Your paying for what you get. 2a: The mac has no bluescreens, it is simpler, and just works. you dont need to know how to use a virus scanner, and you don't have to authorize everything you do. 2b: a $500 pc will not last even a third of the time that a mac will run. 3; Macs get one to one customer service at an apple store. PC's dont. 4: Yes PC's are Awesome at some things and bad at others, but mac's are good at everything not just a few.
Nice Video but i think it need more effects.. you can get nice video effects plugins and addons from aries-films file section. Just google for Aries-Films man.. pc
@acintoli "They cost the same as a high end PC with the same features."
Oh lord how wrong that statement is. Maybe one of those brand name PC that offer next to nill in terms of hardware....but a Custom PC vs a Custom Mac? No comparison, the PC will eat a Mac alive, $ for tech wise.
@AndrewDeLong The fact is, there is no such thing as a real custom made Mac. So a real comparison is not possible. All hardware designed for the Mac is unavailable for PCs.
True. But spec wise (as to what the hardware is capable of) Macs are under par, even for the limited choices that are offered. The 1333Mhz RAM (EEC or not) would be eaten alive by most Gaming grade RAM. The processors are mere dual wielded (in the Mac pro's) 4~ & 6~ core processors, nothing a PC cannot match. The video cards, though nice, are under par. Quite honestly, I just don't see how Mac Specs can even hold up to PC specs in the $ for Tech department.
@AndrewDeLong Well, I also have an Alienware PC, an Aurora. I don't think I need to tell you the specs. Perhaps I am just very unlucky, but I have never been so disappointed for spending 3k $ on a machine that, however powerful it can be, has an nVidia card that overheats BY DESIGN and a system software that needs constant updating, namely GTX 480 and Windows 7 64bit. My late 2009 Mac, which Apple sent me as a replacement for my previous machine that failed 4 times in one year, is much better.
@acintoli Honestly, I wouldn't touch an Alienware PC either. They are just as overpriced and underpowered for the $ as Macs are. If you want a real gaming/video editing Machine, try out cyber power pc's website. For 3 grand, you should be able to build a PC that would eat a Mac or A.W of the same price grade, and with the option between NVIDIA or ATI Raedon Cards. Honestly, you just need to know how to shop for a good custom PC...and DEFINITELY NOT ALIENWARE.
I have to admit that the iMac I own is one of the most overheating pieces of hardware I have ever had, especially when I play a game like WoW or try to enjoy my Second Life, especially in the summer. And after one year from purchase, I had to replace a defective hard drive.
Speed and general performance have been good since the introduction of Mac OS X. Still, the Mac computer is not really designed for hardcore games, I believe. Also, the software drivers cannot be downloaded from the vendor's website but you have to wait for Apple to make a specific Mac version in cooperation with the vendor. This caused me a six months' wait for my iMac's Nvidia card software update, without which the Second Life viewer would hang repeatedly and eventually freeze the Mac.
you gys all respawned to my comments as if i was a mac hater, but i am getting an imac this october, all i am saying is that people really underestimate vista. its really nice... once you get it to work, it took me about 1 or 2 weeks cuz it was new
now adays you can have a mac that "grows" they cant do that because they are all internal and if your hardrive blows up (i dont mean it literly...) you are $5,000 out.... if you hard drive blows up in a pc, then you replace it for $10....
K, but if anything else goes, what that guy said still holds true. And why the ehll would you spend 5k on a commercial product anyway (especially a mac!)? 5k would let you build an awesome computer from the ground up that frickin NASA would be jealous of.
Dude that is awesome.. I love macs and pcs all together and for the. This is top of the line.. Pre 95 age was really hard.. cause they didn't have all this technology. Kudos for you... It brings back good memories.. :)
I am not removing your comment because I have nothing to hide, but I don't see anything wrong about being gay and using a Mac. Most of my gay friends use a PC for that matter. And maybe one of them is your friend, too.
So, next time you send a comment please remember to plug your brain to a mains socket before you activate your mouth to speak.
Yea these commercials remind us that at one time Macintosh was THE computer to own lol. Microsoft has always been slow to pick up on things that Macintosh has already identified the need for.
vista is a bit buggy because its new (they are working aon a service pak anyway. it also does more then tiger, and it does pretty much the same things as leopard look: quicklook = preview pane, timemachine = shadow copy/ system restore, spaces = gridVista, anything else?
btw, dont say i am a windows lover because i like macs better, but i just hate when people exagerate how much better mac is compared to windows
You have similar programs, but they're not the same. Shadow Copy is good, but doesn't do what Time Machine does as well. (Chris Pirillo did a topic on this). All service packs are are a combination of security patches, nothing more, nothing less, that's why service packs are free. This won't fix Vista being buggy. As for GridVista, it seems that Acer makes in, not Microsoft. The Preview Pane doesn't do what quick look does.
the only reason why people think vista is slow and bad is because there computers are ot very gud, my friend uses a 24 inch imac (old version) and i lent him my copy of vista and it worked amazing, but he still uses mac os x fo iwork and ilife; guess it just depends on your computer, i have a shit 1 but i like it sempron 3000+, 15.4 inch display, 80g hdd, 1.25g of ram
An OS shouldn't ever require an above-standard PC. A standard PC uses 512 MB of DDR SDRAM, a 200 GB SATA HD, and a Pentium 4 chip or very low end Intel Core 2 Duo chip. These computers cannot handle any Vista above Basic (which almost no one has the incentive to get as it's crap).
Now these specs can easily handle every other OS, but not Vista Home Premium. This is because of Direct X. Microsoft needs to get their heads out of the place where the sun doesn't shine and convert to OpenGL (which is the reason why every other OS can easily function on these specs and look far better than Vista Ultimate).
Vista is nothing more than a cheap knockoff of Mac OS X. Many, many ITs, MMVPs (Microsoft Most Valued Professionals), and Windows users are switching to Mac OS X because of how bad Vista is, this is a fact.
Yep, 50% of purchases of new macs are from Switchers. People are starting to wake up and realize that Windows is a cheap wal-mart OS. Its just ridiculous how much it takes to run Vista. iMac G3s can run OS X Tiger. Try doing that with Vista, a complete joke.
Haha, wrong. It costs $400. The majority of XP programs are incompatiblewith Vista, and its harder to use and maintain by the average user. So Vista Costs more, does less, and its that hard. :P
Thank you both for your comments. Apart from the fact that this is a VINTAGE ad campaign and it should be considered in the timeframe when it was produced (before Windows 95), all I can say about Apple computers today is that they do exactly anything a PC can do, only better and more reliably, therefore the extra money you spend is balanced by zero costs of maintenance. I have been a PC user for years and I should know better. Anyway, it's a matter of choice, I am not trying to impose anything.
That's why I wanted to post the commercials. Although the prices were pretty hefty for the average consumer, scanners and digital cameras already were available for Apple customers. Those products are given for granted today, but back then they were quite a novelty. Bulky they were indeed, though. Prices: $750 RRP ($1,040 in 2007) for the QuickTake® 100 and $1,299 RRP ($1,900 in 2007) for the OneScanner®.
This advertisement makes me want a PC.

"it does more" - not really
"it costs less" - yea maybe 150% more
it's that simple - not sure, i don't have it.

Well, newest Macs do Windows.
They cost the same as a high end PC with the same features.
And they are far simpler to use. Try networking from a PC and from a Mac.
I agree that games do not seem to perform well, but Apple is now trying to overcome this problem with better graphics cards.
Generally, I express an opinion on something I have purchased and/or tried.
