  • You can also use WD-40 as a starting fluid, i had an 84 Eldorado, and an 85 Ford with Navstar, it worked fir both.

  • @diesel85idi Apparently you must've not have read where he said a tiny shot of Ether got it going, Otherwise you wouldn't have typed your suggestion.

  • @diesel85idi He doesn't believe in it.

  • Course I do, that's what I used to get it going off camera. Theres a proper to use starting fluid, not alot of people seem to know how to do it.

  • Try starting fluid.

  • that thing cranks a lot faster than the old 6.9 I had.

  • the old thing sure made an attempt to start didnt it

  • not a diesel guy in the slightest but im still very mechanically inclined. before this vid even started i couldve told you it wouldve sat their and just coughed trying to start it. basically at that rate your trying to warm the other cylinders via the starter/starting process. starter is not going to like you after this one :-)

  • It started many times before without glow plugs, but was way colder that day witch is why it didn't start in this one. I kind of knew it wouldn't either, but meh, worth trying. A tiny shot of Ether got 'er going.

  • no glo plug power am30 drive f650

  • Some ether can help to pollute less...

    Cheers from italy

  • @dadoVRC so can sticking your head in your ass

    Cheers from America

  • @Nza420 Why?

Trying to start a cold IDI diesel without glow plug pollutes air and wash the oil from the cylinders.

When the engine is hot, the heavy fraction of fuel cook the piston ring with a thick layer of carbon, then the engine runs with less compression and worst fuel consumption and exhaust.

Spraying ether in the intake starts the engine istantly without any problem.

I have a IDI diesel car and autocaravan, and I live in the alps, in Italy.

I know how to start a diesel in cold weather.

  • @dadoVRC I know what ether does. Also, let me tell you, I think that those volcanoes in Iceland are polluting the air a lot more than this cranking of this diesel. The description says the owner fixed the problem, anyway.

  • @Nza420 You can't stop volcano pollution with ether as you can do on a diesel engine.

If I can reduce my footprint on earth, why not do it?

In the US you have some problems to understand it.

Now a oil spill pollutes the mexico gulf, it's a big, very big spill.

Because of it, you think that's ok to throw your engine's exhaust oil in your toilet?

    I think not.

I'm not saying to live with less comfort to reduce pollution.

But if you can do a better thing with no problems, why not?

  • @dadoVRC Please. I refuse to feel guilty about a little white puff of smoke going into the air. Oh, and I hadn't heard about the oil spill, considering that I live a few thousand miles closer to the Gulf of Mexico than you do... talk to the stupid president. I'm not the one who torpedoed the oil rig or the pipe. I'm also not the one who wants the pipe to keep leaking, like he does.

  • @Nza420 You had not to feel guilty for the little bit of smoke, expecially if it comes out from the exhaust pipe for a engine problem.

But I think it's stupid to try to start an engine with three bad glow plugs if you know that, and it's more stupid if you film it and put it on YT.

Some years ago I film the exhaust vapour on my autocaravan (at -8 °C with hot engine) because I'm not sure tha's normal, but I know that the engine was OK, and later I fix the "problem" increasing the timing advance.

  • @dadoVRC lol, well i guess you'd think I'm REALLY stupid for starting my diesel with 6 bad plugs!

  • @dadoVRC fuck you hippe! let the coal roll, your only here for a short amount of time so live while you can and fuck the future people, they can figure shit out on there own.

  • Had the same problem today! 16 F Degrees here in Indiana. Decided to sleep in mine for work (fri 2-10, sat 6-2) and shut it off. Without it plugged in, it would crank and act like it would go...but wouldn't. Even though I hated to, resorted to using either to make it fire. Mine has the door in the back and is slightly shorter. It's still a 1987 Ford Econoline E 350 Diesel dually. What kind of trannies do these have? They're International Harvester 6.9 Liter Diesel Engines right?

    VT247

  • This one has the C6 3 speed auto. Some had the E4OD 4 speed O/D tranny, but uncomond in these vans. And yes it's an International Harvester engine.

  • I have never seen a diesel powered class C rv before! That must be really rare!

  • They are VERY rare!

  • Did you buy it new?

  • No, used in 2000.

  • Oh. Either way you are very very lucky!

  • I LOVE THE SOUND OF OLD DIESELS CRANKING OVER AND OVER. my 1994 peugeot 405 1.9 idi goes through glow plugs like theres no tomorrow so i hear the constant crank very often lol!

  • I like the sound of a diesel running. Nothing like a motor that actually runs.

  • Found On Road Dieing

  • only jealous people insult a company do yourself a favor and go get yourself a ford

  • jealous? my family had 3 fords before and one of them was a ford tourus that the tranny failed 3 times in 1 damn month and we have a gmc yukon for 6 years and it never failed only new water pump, rad and gas pump at 200500km

    anyways im a gm person

  • Whoa....did I hear someone say, "calisse" at the end of this video? LOL

  • Yeah LOL, my dad when he was getting out of the RV to go get some Ether.

  • lol... if it were mine i`d re direct a wire or two.

  • It's all fixed now, starts perfect.

  • What type of car is this i want one.

  • 1987 Ford Econoline 350

  • pump it and keep cranking it more and make sure it fires keep pumping and cranking it

  • it's a diesel moron!

  • true only if only if it will not start at all not even kick. or if it kicks but the battery is getting weak or you have a crappy battery then give it a little whif, even a big diesel such as a 3000 hp. V16 Cummins just needs a little whif to push it over if it's too cold

  • Yeah true. What I always do and my dad is try every thing BEFOR using Ether, if nothing works then it's Ether. To bad this RV is an automatic cause we could have done like my dad had to do a while ago to start the truck, Pull start it.

  • Well I work on Diesels as a hobby aswell as other engines, If you have any questions let me know, I also own a 1986 Ford Econoline 150 van. It's not a Diesel though it's got a 302 with fuel injection first year they offered multiport fuel injection on truck, vans and larger cars.

  • Cool thanks. Come to think of it I will need a bit of help I'll message you though I think it's going to be to long by comment lol. Thanks again :)

  • Next time it does that just one itty bitty shot of ether or starting fluid will do it

  • Yeah that's what we did right after I flicked the camera off. Fired right up no problem. I hate using Ether though but when you have to you have to.

  • wow ether wont do shit in my IDI 6.2

  • Haha, in both our 6.9 and 7.3 all it takes is one itty bitty shot of it and fires right up.

  • well blah blah blah haha

  • It reminds me of my 1980 Olds Cutlass Diesel I used to have, the glow plugs didn't work worth a shit in the ol 5.7 either. Well when it does that if there is one thing a Diesel understands is a good whif of ether

  • That'll give a man a workout.

  • HAHA, yeah right, nice try, come back in one year. It aint going to happen dude, nope, I don't think so. Cough cough cough, take a throat losenge :P Thanks for sharing

    Peace :)

  • Almost started.
