"i guess nowadays you still have to choose between having a great quality camera or a all around camera that can film in any conditions"....a wise perception and good advice. Thanks. gary
@srfnff I still have that camera and it works although i had some problems of water getting in the lens so i am not sure i would advise you to buy it. i now use my canon rebel t1i for filming but it cant go underwater unless you have a waterproof housing which costs more than the camera itself..i guess nowadays you still have to choose between having a great quality camera or a all around camera that can film in any conditions.
Just came back from the Maldives where I spent 6 days snorkeling. Got the WH1 just before the trip. I uploaded 4 vids taken with the WH1 underwater. No problem at all with any water getting inside the lens... The camera dries real quick too. I just followed the manual which suggested to let the camera dry every hour for 10 mins.
The camera came with a so-called waterproof 8Gb class 2 SDHC mem card. Replaced it with a 16Gb Class 6 SDHC card which did the trick.
it has a nice zoom but i had some problems using it underwater... and i wouldn't trust dropping it on the sand although it looks tougher than regular camcorders.
@ValleyOfTime Mine still works fine, I dumped it in fresh and salt water and went swimming for almost an hour, It's got spit on, I dropped an egg on the lens and still no problems at all.
hi, im going to dubai and was thinking about buying this camera would you recomend it ? and yes i do intend to use it in water, i.e water park :D thanks

It's June 2011. Do you still use this camera? Has it held up? If not, what do you use now? Thanks, gary.

Very nice footage..would you recommend this camcorder for shooting footage from the beach. Like the idea of sand not wrecking the camera..
