Since no one else seems to be saying too easy or too hard, I'll cover that, it's good, maybe a little hard. I'm thinking I need to take some piano lessons to "get it"?
hahah you make it look easy, great musician I can't say that from a lot of trance producers to be honest, but yeah i guess they have the ear to assemble it in the computer note by note, but to be honest as an instrument player you are much better than most of those.
seirously isnt there a step by step tutorial? Im still just lookin at my keybord, It just seems you showed us your skills not how to actully do like you did, all that fast part. Maybe im wrong maybe everybody here can play like he can after this tutorial.
Don't play a complete song most people will just copy it. It's a tutorial on how to improv your own and you did a very good job on it. It sounds a bit classical, but that's because it's not a keyboard. really good
b e a utiful!!!! i now know i need to practice my cords and scales and why its important altho no one told me in the first place but i seen it in movies!! and thats good enough ...
@Hereson0 this IS true trance, maybe your into the new evolved trance. but the main instrument of trance is piano and wen trance first came out it was played on piano
Trance/Techno is not my thing but, this has been an excellent set of lessons! They have concepts that can be used in any style of music, imo. Great work, cheers!
@enpointrecords Grab a violin and it's Vivaldi. Get an electric guitar and you have Iron Maiden. Why reinvent the wheel when you have a universal hub?
your a good piano player, but my friend this is not techno far alone trance. listen to something like "age of love" by age of love and then you'll discover trance. good piano playing, totally wrong genre. i know, i used to go to raves.
Since when does going to raves make you any kind of expert?
The things he is showing here are indeed the foundation which can be used to create techno songs. The only issue is that it's played on a piano, thus making it have more of a classical sound to it.
If he had used a synthesizer it would be easier to recognize.
i have been listening to this kindof music for 20 years. i know. americans are so far behind this style, it is shaming. incedentely, have you listened to q-tex, ultrasonic, that is trance you fool.
Trance to me is a stylistic synthisized version of classical which fits in well with techno/ screamo ect. He is simply teaching the technique, but since it is on a grand piano it sounds like classical. This is the nitty gritty behind trance. I personally think it sounds extra awesome when combined to create trancemetal.
@AnnieLynn333 Well, not only classic, but Dream music like. If we were parent this class with electronical music sounds more like Dream. Pretty cool indeed!
What did she say that wasn't correct. He is trying to teach technique so that you can transport it and apllhy it to a synthesizer. It is definitely classical in sound.
@canaan1967 Anything on a piano can be classical in sound. What I'm saying is you shouldn't compare classical genius to a genre that largely caters to people who are hyped up on mind altering drugs. Don't make it more than what it is, all it is is party music. Granted some tracks can be beautiful, but at the end of the day most artists have NO musical training and don't know the first thing beyond 4/4 timing. Get me?
@KizzaKhaz So because I love trance I use mind altering drugs? gimme a break, at house or techno events the drug use is not different.
There is just a lot of similarity between classical music because unlike many other electronic genres, melody & nuance of instruments is important.
Its not merely party music, It is listenable at home when doing other things, sat port (especially running), in the shower, and before sleeping. Please give examples of artists w/o musical training when u say so.
@Aquinoxmusic Tiesto. He can't even read music. You lose. And trance was actually started back in the days when all the hippies were going over to the beaches of Goa to trip out on acid and listen to repetitive music. If you have a short attention span and the maturity level of a 15 year old child, then I guess it's cool. Yeah, trance is totally listenable when your exercising or in a cheesy porn. Man, you proved your point entirely. Totally similar to classical music.
Usually I ignore trolls like u, especially because I wasn't talking to you at all but let me tell you this, u are obviously very ignorant and know very little about what you are saying. You can say what you want but people appreciate what I am doing and the support & constructive criticism drive me to improve and continue
@Aquinoxmusic I like how you gauge how I am in my personal life based on the information in my profile. I usually ignore naive, pretentious plur pseudo-ravers like yourself, but in this case, no. What exactly do I not know what I'm saying? I think I proved my point well. You, on the other hand, can sit on your throne and try and gaze down on me, but really you're the troll and you're the one that can't come up with a valid rebuttal. No one appreciates a DJ with no musical talent either =(.
@Aquinoxmusic And your profile and soundcloud account really prove my point. You probably pirated a DAW and didn't even play a musical instrument prior =).
@AnnieLynn333 Your right, it would be completely different if a guitar player was playing the same notes, or if someone was running them through a synth. This technique can be applied to many styles of music
Wow you're certainly a great piano player. However, since much of all the trance songs I've heard in the last ~15 years (100s if not 1000s of songs) haven't been played on a piano (baring a few songs and minus chords, secondary melodies, and intro/outro pieces) I can hear some of what you're getting at but it would make more sense to use a synth to explain this topic. And please spend more time explaining arpeggios since an overwhelming majority of melodic trance uses them to some degree.
hate to say it, but i kinda agree.. honestly im hearing very little trance in here, just some classical piano.. and youre very good at piano, but i think its kinda hard to create electronic trance music on a grand piano..
dont get me wrong, you are definately so much better at piano than i am, but this sounds nothing like trance.
Are you kidding? It doesn't get much more trancy than this. I think your lack of knowledge of music theory is why it doesn't sound like trance to you.
Unless I'm horribly mistaken on what trance sounds like.
i rckon jayboy is getting trance mixed with techno, tranciness is based on getting into that "trance" which can be fully achieved with a grand piano, techno is progressive use of synthetic chords with as much eq as ypou can pack into it, nonsence really, trance has a "air" to itself not found in much music except "strong" and "romantic" classical.
Trance is definitely based more on classical melody. You're right, man. Techno is created on a computer, but playing trance with acoustic instruments is at least somewhat within the realm of possibility. Actually, that's kind of a good idea...
try not to sound like anybody else?!?!? thats impossible theres billions of people making music now days thats just impossible gosh XD. great stuff otherwise, make something for the total begginer like me ^.^
if by too fast you mean that the notes sounds run into each other then he could have used "gating" on the piano it would have sound nicer then. unless speed isnt your thing =)
I think DixieDan means the lesson pace is way too fast - I agree - he needs to slow it down because most of us aren't at his same level. But I also think it's a good effort - just slow it down a little or repeat so we don't have to rewind as much.
i has one question yet. maybe i missed it. you are playing on La minor on the lied motive But there's ,on the variations, some scale changes wich sound amazing .wich are those scale variations and wich scales do you recomend ?
and for those who think that this is a really bad tutorial for noobs, you're right. as said in the description, an intermediate skill level in piano or greater is recommended.
yo son, pianoist props, a notworthy intro to the stylitics, but include some intervalic concepts, to make it easier on those who don't quite have the scales down.
That was so very nice. It touches on those deep dark complex elements that Bach, Beethoven and Listz used to create. Great talent you have! I'd love to be able to do some of that. Perhaps one day you could show those more complex parts slower for us with less keyboard ability.
Irony is every successful pop artist we see with a piano is a Jew. Yet none of em can play half as good as this Asian kid on YouTube.

That was so very nice. It touches on those deep dark complex elements that Bach, Beethoven and Listz used to create. Great talent you have! I'd love to be able to do some of that. Perhaps one day you could show those more complex parts slower for us with less keyboard ability.
