Great Game. My favorite team, alabama against my favoorite qb tom brady. Michigan won fair and square. This is what legends are made of and tom brady capitalize on every play. Tom brady the best qb of all time. Lets go patriots and RTR!
wolfhist. thank you very much for supplying this great game. as a 25 year old from New england, I was interested to see how brady performed at his alma mater, and it's interesting to see the translation to the NFL.
@dwarnock7013 It's unfortunate that Brady didn't have a better career at Michigan than he did. But the whole thing with Drew Henson cost him playing time and turned into a huge debacle in Ann Arbor. After this year Henson was set to take over as the starter and bailed on the freakin team to play baseball after all the grief he caused in 98 and 99 for Brady who should of been the sole starter from day one. That was on Lloyd.
I remember watching this game when I was a junior in college. The ending was obviously anticlimactic, but it was a great game nevertheless. Great bowl season for the Big Ten too. On top of this game, Michigan State beat Florida in the Citrus Bowl, Penn State beat Texas A&M in the Cotton bowl, Wisconsin beat Stanford in the Rose Bowl and Illinois beat Virginia in the whogivesafuck Bowl. The Big Ten has obviously stumbled lately, but history says this won't last long.
I had never heard of this game it was on espn classic didn't read the info or any thing just watched and i'm a michigan fan and it was shocking my jaw just dropped i couldnt believe it
@tittydonut123 Because back then (unlike now) people used to draft smart and not because of what happened in one bowl game (*cough* JaMarcus Russel) and Brady was preatty average overall in college. Safe to say they were wrong on this one though.
Best part is at 6:36 after Pflugner's collapsed in disappointment, his Team picks him up and hugs him. Admirable. Could've happened to anyone, but his team was actually there for him, that says a lot. Only bad part about this game was that someone had to lose.
now if only my buckeyes could pull this off... one thing about Michigan, they represent the heart of the big10 when it comes to cross conference play,
I still can't believe that pansy missed the freaking extra point. I still remember that, so heartbreaking. Just like the announcer said, should be a formality. My brother and I still to this day say that a kicker Pflugner'ed it whenever they miss a kick that should be automatic.
What's sad about the state of football these days is that 1:25 - 1:28 would have been a half the distance penalty and Alabama would have started at the 10 yd line. haha Just food for thought.
Superior team? No need to rewrite history. Brady passed for nearly 400 yards against Bama's defense. 2 of Bama's 4 TD's came because of special teams plays.
Michigan had this win in regulation if not for a fumble at the one yard line and a field goal blocked. Bama was lucky the game even went into overtime. Get over yourself.
@smi99003 Lucked out? Michigan turned the ball over on the 1 yard line. If anything, Alabama lucked out just to even go into overtime. Superior team my ass! Did you really just watch the same game I did? I guess not.
@smi99003 The 98 and 99 Michigan teams were way better than their regular season records indicate. The whole QB controversey cost the team wins and is the reason that Wisconsin got to go to 2 straight Rose Bowls in 98 and 99 even though UM beat The Badgers both years and were the better team. This game was no fluke, Brady and UM had been coming back to win games all year.
Hell some people believe UM could of challenge for another NC with the 99 team but Lloyd dropped the ball.
I'm a huge bama fan, and I was sick when we lost this game. That is until I remembered that it was Brady, so I decided that it's ok to lose to Tom Brady, the best quarterback since Joe Montana
@Johnrl21 Thanks for being a classy fan, John. I salute fans who support their teams and maintain an air of class after the game, regardless of result.
I was a lot more ticked off at Bama standing us up at the goal line then i was when we missed the FG. I fell asleep once the game went to overtime cause i had done alter serving the previous night for New Year's Midnight Mass (we had Y2K joke at church when the lights went off @ midnight) then for some inexplicable reason i had school the next day.
Shaun Alexander is one guy I'm relieved we never have to face again. 34 carries for 260 yards and four TDs in two bowl games against us. We just could not stop this guy
The Epstein field goal block demonstrates why coaches shouldn't be overconservative and count the field goal as automatic when they get into scoring position.
There were a ton of very good NFL players on the field that day including a couple MVPs and several Super Bowl rings. Yet the guy who was the most electric never made it. Go figure.
Why does Brady not seem excited for his victory? It is just an odd note to see. Surely he's exhausted, but so must be the rest of that offense. Very odd.
He was exhausted, yes. But he was also very dehydrated. When the players stormed the field, he was on the sidelines throwing up. Understandable that he didn't look good at that particular moment.

That was really cool of number 30 when their kicker fucked it up.

This team should've won a NC, they were definitely talented enough. Brady, Thomas, Terrell, Hall.

looking at this, how did anyone see Brady as a 6th round pick? I know he wasn't that physically impressive back then but damn... 100% clutch.

I don't understand how Brady was taken #199. He looked amazing in this game
tittydonut123 1 year ago
Leave it to Tom Brady to lead a comeback like that!
Also, I wonder if this is how it would've ended had Vinateri missed one of the kicks in the SBs and gone to overtime. Brady would've drove to win it.
