Great video ! I have visited Jordan 7 years ago and it is a wonderfull country. Petra is a beautiful place. Hope you had the time to do some hiking. It has some great views from the tops.
That was an incredible journey. I loved it. Thank you so much for bringing this here. It was a real privelidge to see those rocks and the layers of colour. It really is a wonder. Thank you. Gaia.
@Betaplayer366 I was actually contacting different tourism boards and they were very responsive. They invited me, thank god for them! Wow this video is rocking!!! did you see the video of Sri Lanka #1?
Thee characteristics of the place are partly Egyptian and partly Greek, clearly pointing to the age of the Ptolemies...close of the 2nd century BC, when the Ptolemaic and Seleucid kingdoms were equally depressed, the Nabataean kingdom came to the front...
Under Aretas III Philhellene, (c.85–60 BC), the royal coins begin. The theatre was excavated at that time, and Petra have assumed the aspect of a Hellenistic city. In the reign of Aretas IV Philopatris, (9 BC–40 AD)..then the Romans came and the place was absorbed into the Roman Empire as part of Arabia Petraea, becoming capital.
The passage in Diodorus Siculus 94–97which describes the expeditions which Antigonus sent against the Nabataeans in 312 BC is understood to throw some light upon the history of Petra, but the "petra" referred to as a natural fortress and place of refuge cannot be a proper name and the description implies that the town was not yet in existence!
It is supposed to be Established sometime around the 6th century BC as the capital city of the Nabataeans,..but it's not sure the the curving of the Petra happened at that time because Diodorus Siculus when he wrote the Bibliotheca historica, was between 60 and 30 BC.
So it is more likely that these curves were made by the Hellenistic years by the Greek generals of Alexander the great, and later we see elements of the Greco-Roman time!..THANK YOU!..THE TRUTH HAS TO BE SAID!
it is true that ancient Arab cared about carving because they cared about death and life after death! if you go further south (in Arabian desert) you will find two cities madain saleh and madain shoaib both are Nabataeans cities.... The two cities showed not just nabateans era but also lihyan
@Davidsbeenhere Yes both cities are in Saudi Arabia..you will find it interesting. Petra is famous and crowded but these cities are isolated by few people who know about it! If you really go to Saudi arabia you should also see lihyan(Dedan) ruins ... which is a kingdom before Nabtean and their style more like Egyptian.
