  • I had never thought much of this song as sung by the author. And even less I ever liked Richards' painful (to hear) singing. But here he nails it. 9\10

  • @greatbighand yeah - he does !!

  • guess who?

  • Cool

  • Yeah, this version is cool, but still Lynyrd Skynyrd's one is the best around!

  • Fourteen commies hate Christmas AND rock n roll!

  • I sit right now with this single before my eye. The first edition 45 r.p.m bought in 79 at the first day it was available where I lived then. I was expecting a follow up LP, but it wasn't to be until much later. Keith making his own record was like a dream come true.

  • THE BEST VERSION is in my channel

"TURBOPOTAMOS DESPEDIDA LOQUENDO RUN RUDOLPH " (copy paste in youtube searcher)

  • @bengael

Sorry, no, this is still better.

  • This tune is a year-round hit in Lapland. God's gift to us all is His Son, Jesus. Chuck Berry's gift to us all (especially to Keith R.) is his guitar riffs. RIP IT UP this Christmas 2011!

  • Chuck Norris is an ASS, could not fight his way out of a wet paper bag!

  • Fantastic song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :-D

  • Does Keith really sing this? and when ?

  • @winter9020 Late '70s. Keith made a film to honor Chuck Berry and Johnny Johnson. (Chucks' piano player). The Film is called: "Hail, Hail Rock n' Roll"; after a Chuck B. song. Great movie! Chuck is kind of a Prick; but one of the most Brilliant song-writers ever born....and a Hero to Keef. This is a Chuck Berry song, in fact.

  • @swiggy58a thank you, but is it actually Keith singing? if so does he sing any other songs? its a great voice!!

  • @winter9020 yes its Keith. He has 2 solo albums Talk is cheap and Main Offender. Main Offender is a great album. He has also sang many songs on The stones albums. His songs are always my favorites.

  • It wasn't the late 70's, it eas filmed in 1986

  • Keith just kills it. dam.

  • @FRATZROCKET You being serious? this is awesome!

  • @DanPaBlake When I said "kills it",I meant he does a incredible job. :) LOVE THE SONG.

  • @FRATZROCKET Good! :D

  • GO GO KEEF!

  • Chuck Berry never wrote this song. It was written for him in his style by a couple of geezers in 1958. Berry was given credit (wrongly) for co-writing the song. Doesn't detract from it tho.

  • キースのやけくそ気味の歌い方が好きだ!

  • Love Keith's qoute " I've never had a problem with drugs, just the police " Rock On Keith !

  • One of my heroes!!! Anyone who can party like that dude and still be kickin' and rockin' is alright with me!!!

  • GREAT TUNE (BERRY) AND A GREAT SOUND. KEITH'S PITCH MAY BE GRAND, BUT TONE IS A MATTER OF PERSONAL TASTE. STILL, WE'RE ROCKIN' AROUND THE TREE. THANX 4 THE SONG!

  • This is a REAL Christmas Rock Song !!

  • Holy Shit! 'Keif' personified at 1:11!!!

  • @Witechawklit My faves the full spread at around 1:21 !

  • I wonder if Eddie Cochran ever did a version of this. Brian Setzer's version is great! I wish more radio stations would play this every Christmas time. Merry Christmas 2011 KEITH and CHUCK B.! RIP IT UP, MATES!

  • I have been to every Stones tour since 89... I love the slide show.. good job

  • Fuckin' commercials!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did he record this with the Stones? any info appreciated.

  • Keith Richard is god.

  • @honkytonkwomen69 No he's not. Keef's the Devil

  • @honkytonkwomen69 ...ummm no,Eric has got that handle

  • @honkytonkwomen69 He's good, but he's no Keith Richards.

  • @sbookerthegreat Estoy de acuerdo contigo. saludos desde España.

  • Man this rocks......and rocks!

  • I agree with the comments that say it's actually better than the original, cz it's got more boogie and rock to it. Chuck Berry's may be technically excellent, but Keith Richards' version sears your soul.

  • THE BEST! KEITH!

  • Oh, COOL! It's like Christmas in July! Hit-it, Keith!

  • I listened to every version of this on YouTube, here's the best. Why? Balls baby, it's all about balls, and Keefer's got 'em.

  • @19chiefs57 Hey! 19 Chiefs! You're my kinda guy! I've lovin' Keef since 1969. There's only one Keith Richards!

  • run

  • Such a great song <3

  • My all time favorite Christmas song

  • Is that Keith singing ?

  • @ftjax Yes

  • @ftjax yup :)

  • this is the best I have heard from Keith

  • and away went rudolph...

  • woop.....woop

    love it!!

  • Bloody Brilliant! Keef Riffs!

  • Keef ROCKS!!

  • The best, rockin-est, St. Louis-est, Stones-est, Chuck Berry writen-est, Christmas-est song there is! Love ya - Keith and Chuck.

  • @TyCobb2010 Oh yeah !! This is Rock'n'Roll :)

  • @BeatleStone I bought the single way back when. It was backed with his cover of 'The Harder They Come'

  • keith sounds like he's bored

  • This cover sounds a little like Rod Stewart?

  • @frank02111 No. It doesn't. Maybe Rod did something that sounded like THIS.....once. But Keith has never "sounded like" Rod Stewart. And never will!

  • HELL yah.

  • Kick-It, Keith! Now it really IS a Merry Christmas! What's Christmas 'without' some killer guitar licks? The two just go hand-in-hand! Show 'em how it's DONE, Keith!

  • isnt it Run Run Rudolph???

  • Keith Richards does this song justice! Chuck Berry must be proud.

  • in an interview following his benefit concert in Oshawa, Ontario in April 1979, Keith boasted that he would release this every year like Bing Crosby did with White Christmas!

  • Just between you and me Keef: Baby, you're the greatest.

  • The perfect Christmas song :) I like Chuck Berry and Keith Richards. Let them rock forever !!

  • @allaboard70 Yes ...I agree...perfect Christmas song ...we will see if family will agree with this !!!:))

  • this is soo cool...thanks for posting

  • love keith. i heard this in the supermarket today

  • Happy Stone's Christmas. Jimbo

  • /watch?v=LYfopllaHtA

  • good track but leemy's version is better

  • It's only rock'n roll and I like it..........

What more can You ask for....

    Leif

  • Epic rock nothing but this i what should be played i love the joe perry cover

  • The Rolling Stones modeled their music after Chuck Berry & Muddy Waters. Fantastic. Where is great rock-n-roll today?

  • what does the shot at 0.28 remind me of?

  • He sings better than Mick!!!

  • Unquestionably one of his best vocal preformances , Truely a masterpiece of his craft. The Queen will be fine, God save Keith Richards. Thanks Keith Love& Peace.

  • Hey, great post! This was the very first Keith RIchards solo record, a 45-single with a cover of Jimmy Cliff's The Harder They Come on the flipside. Was it 1978 or something? And did its release have anything to do with Keith Richards getting arrested in Canada for drugs?

Visit my channel's playlists if you like RocknRollShaman, you might find it to your pleasure. Thanks for posting this

  • 1:56

Why don't we see more of that hat???

    I'm diggin that shit.

  • YEAHHH...............

    KEITH!!!!

  • Keith Richards took some time off from the Stones to do this single, released in 1979 (I think).

I believe that the B-Side of the 45 was "The Harder They Come", originally by Jimmy Cliff.

  • too bad Keith didnt sing lead more when he was younger because he was great. Its a bad ass, distinctive rock n' roll voice

  • so right on that.... his syle today reflects part of Chuck with the low leg action ... hes amazing.. and i truly enjoy watching thatt DVD as well as all the others.. : ) that kinda of feeling ya get from watching Keith play guitar could almost be illegal... at best it does make me happy !!!!!!

  • Kieth and his nasty guitar 4 ever!!!!!

  • The best thing they did this past decade , was to finally ....release Hail HAil Rock & Roll on to DVD been out for long time but only on VHS .... its by far one of my Favorites and its pretty nicely packaged too ..

  • @glimmergirl Me too - I loved that rockumentary too. Great stuff, and Kieth got his wish to back Chuck with a dynamite crew, and pay homage to his hero. :-)

    Class all the way!

  • Great version by the Human Riff. Always thought that the Stones were one of the few bands who really understood Chuck and his driving rhythm sound.

  • Hes A fantastic singer a talented one and my love forever and my idol number 1 !! :) <3

  • Chuck Berry's version kicks ass. Keith make it like him & he did the bass himself,i n Willie Dixon's style in Chuck 's version. It's was keith 's Santa Claus prayer before he had to go to the Toronto court of justice...some yeras ago. Santa Claus heard him.

  • Santa gave Keith some magic dust & did Keith a favor. Gotta love Keith

  • @ak47doubletap Oh shit! ROFL!

  • keith , my boss.

  • I read Keef was a member of an exclusive boys choir when he was young. He had perfect pitch with his voice.

  • He sang at Westminster Abbey at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953....He says the Queen heard his voice at its best.......he was in the school choir.

  • @stewajf Hardly exclusive....He came from the poor side of town. His working class school had a choir. He did have perfect pitch and sang for the Queen.

  • great song from the "riffmaster"!

  • And people try to say that Keith can't sing. Pfft. He's fantastic! =)

  • Dit maakt kerstmis compleet. Reelin like a mery-go-round,

    J

  • great song and great pics, merry christmas

  • This defiantly makes the christmas CD.

  • Merry Christmas and HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEITH

  • Love Keith's voice.

  • The only thing that will be left in 3,000 years will be cockroaches, styrofoam and Keith Richards.

  • Gotta listen to/watch Dave Edmunds doing the same song. Blows this away.

  • check out Hanoi Rocks' Run Rodolph Run..queer lookin' bunch, but dang good song...

  • Dave Edmunds version kicks ass, but this one is better. Much rawer.

  • @nicmart

    Dave who?

    Stones rule!

  • Best Christmas song !!

  • Oh fuck ya.

  • its just you

  • An ugly bunch of fuckers who make awesome music. Yes.

  • actually, they are. bring on the hating :))

  • The High Holy Days start on the 18th

  • Leave it to Keith to record this Christmas gem...something the other Stones wouldn't have pulled off!

  • This proves Stones would do well enough without Jagger.

Only because he doesn't play enough.

  • Wow !!

  • they are big friends the two of them

so them in 1980 in NYC

  • Great Keith vocal. Recorded in '77 for Christmas but not released til '79;

    released on Keith time.

  • This is more than good! It's bloody amazing. So basic and at the same time 101 % tight.

  • keith god!!!!!

  • agreed, Clapton got nothing on this, baby.

  • living legend!!

  • Hi BeatleStone,

I heard the book will come out in 2010, wasn't sure what month. So, when they make the movie version, who gets to play Keef? Any suggestions? I like Gary Oldman, but other people think Johnny Depp, since Pirates.

  • Johnny Depp is always Johnny Depp, too recognizable, Oldman would be awesome tho, totally fall into the role.

  • Hey man! I was very glad to see someone agree with me about Gary Oldman. Most are going the Depp route. You have some great videos in your favorites. I took the Hendrix/Brian Jones video and favorited it. Thank you very much,

    -Oggy

  • Is that right? Keef has a book coming out? That's awesome.

  • Keith in HIS PRIME.... sounds great!

  • Comment removed

  • a really stones-like version - very relaxed performed

  • Recorded in '77, not released till Xmas '79 (that's Keith).

  • Great, it's more of a boogie record than the original and it's excellent!

  • RUN RUDOLPH RUN !

santa claus is living Lapland, Finland!!

  • MERRY XMAS !

  • Ah, to be talented, eccentric, an rich.

  • 0:58 Classic super star. Leopard print full length coat, with sunglasses. At 1:23, stretching it out like a 19 yr old. At 2:00 he's got that "Been there, done that" look. At 2:52 you're seeing a true survivor. & finally, at 3:00, you see Keith in a shot in which I think he remarked he's had only two 'real' haircuts in the past 35 years. So now he just: "cuts as needed" with scissors & normally wears a bandana.

What a stud. I want that Skull Ring!! What it would be like to be a "glimmer twin"!

  • Rudolph Nureyev

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS :) and RUN Rudolph RUN !

  • in the film HAIL HAIL rocknroll, chuck berry said an unforgettable phrase: " THERES SOMETHING ABOUT ROCK N ROLL ....IT´S....FREEDOM !"

  • i think this is one of those song inspired by eric rudolf the olympic park bomber?

    i could be wrong

  • Yeah. You're dead wrong. Eric Rudolph wasn't even born when this was written by Chuck Berry in the mid-50's.

  • Chuck Berry did not write this song

  • Of COURSE Chuck Berry wrote this song. Nobody else COULD have written this song. And nobody could cut Chucks' own version but KR and/or the Stones. Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer is the subject. S' a Christmas rocker.

  • The label credits it to Marvin Brody & Johnny Marks

  • Ur so right, this is some great stuff, but nobody can deny Dave Edmunds does an amazing job on this song aswell.

  • He didnt write it

  • Merry xmas guyz

  • Best pic in the world at :46!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Agreed. I think it's an Annie Leibovitz photo?????

  • Lulu mdoes a great version!

  • awesome Keith forever!!!love him

  • The best "hidden" Christmas song for years. Finally, it's starting to get radio play, and people are getting used to Keith at Christmas.

A long wait, since it was recorded in 1977.

  • Merry Christmas to all

  • is this the one on the BBC advert for films?

  • think that one is Billy Ray Cyrus

  • Fraid not, it's an edited Billy Ray Cyrus as per Disney Holiday

  • wen ur day comes keith i hope they carry u on a sleigh and play this song,u keep a smile on my face

  • Chuck Berry and Keith rocks. This is one of the best versions of "Rudolph". I wish all a Merry, Happy Christmas :)
