  • the way it peeling off the lines, its probably a ray of some kind.

  • plastic reel + cheap rod=lost fish

  • Once you hook something that big , you have to work it. Rod down, reel in... Rod up stop reeling. Try to walk backwards with it and then reel in as you walk up. You shouldnt just reel and reel bc I can hear your drag, that's let's you know your not putting line back on your reel. I have a VAn Staal 250 and 350+ yards of 20lb on my cobia rod and I drag everything I hook in. :) go fishing more often. GL

  • @SSSDiaz7 shut the fuck up your a lying bitch you've never caught a fish in your life so stop talking shit about power pro cause you keep changing the LB test and saying a bunch of shit like waiting for some1 to agree with you

  • @mrops333 i dont see any of your fishing videos all you have is some gay aquarium

  • @mrops333 Since when did I ever change the story, I was asking for anyone who was willing to make a guess as to what it is that I lost on my rod. It ran 200+ yards in 8-10 seconds, it was power pro 100lb, I locked down the drag completely and cuffed the spool and the line popped. So whats your problem asshole, were you there, mind you that was like 2 years ago if I remember, and you still had the nerve to write back talking shit like an internet tough guy and for what, go argue with your mommy.

  • he must of cought chuck norris or bruce lee thats why he lost the fight >.<

  • i have finished all over an most types of fish... an i have never used shit like 30lbs line is what i use on my bait rods an its power-pro line that shit is the best .....man you need to know what to do an how before you go out there an try to fish....... punting on bait like that 5-8'' baitfish = 50-100lbs ????you should have stuck with shrimp like all the other newb's!!!!!

  • one time i hooked an eagle ray but then right when it got to the surface the line broke..........turns out i hooked it on the wing but it was awesome

  • this guy has no idea of what he's doing , 4 guys to work a rod ? what a cheap shit real , stop buying garbage and get your self a Penn 850

  • Bat ray.

  • that reel looks plastic.. must be made in china

  • fucking chink

  • WHat you did besides the equipment you have is poor for fishing is.

You stopped to stuff around with your reel that gave the fish the time it needed to make its way loose .

  • cheep people cheep stuff

  • Look like you lost a sting ray I land it many times. I can teach land some next time I see you.

  • @boknow12345 deff wasnt a sting ray u idiot evidently uve never fought a stingray.

  • you lost a fish on 30lb spiderwire. You suck.. You should never have let the fish get a chance to drag all the line out and for 300yd too dang. That 30lb Spiderwire is really heavy stuff. Next thing to keep in mind don't let anyone touch your gear like you had the mofo did when you are reeling. Tight that drag and winch it in calmly and used the rod as leverage to pull back to reel in some line, you may have to do it constantly. If it was a really big fish line or rod would have snap long ago.

  • i had the same thing happen on sanibell whith my 6/0 penn and 80lb test.

  • gotta love the sea of idiot commenters !!!!

  • what a idiot toss that piece of junk rod and reel over the edge get you a peen 850 or a Shimano STL20000SW put 30 lb braid on it and land the fish . mr reninssions i would not even admit to using a piece of shit like that to catch bait haha my penn 450 ssm has more gut's then that dude rig haha

  • ROFL thats like a rod i would use to catch my bait.... that was the work of a bat.

  • Don't let your friends touch your rod.

  • you can blame the marshmallow for that loss....

  • boy scout- be ready...always

  • dude get off that Wal-Mart " rod reel" combo that was a nice fish u lost

  • omg is that reall 2 bearings or what? cheap cheap reel, get a decent shimano or abu reel

  • its probly a bat ray

  • He would have been better off using a conventional reel.

  • tell ur friends to stop touching the rod and u wouldn't have lost this fish

  • I mean line

  • I am 12 so u may not take advice from me but I have around 100 lures 5 poles n 50 lb spider wire test but u need to tighten the spool tension a bit more but not too much the pine could snap

  • should have hand-realed it in!!!!!!!???? you would have had it man!!!!

  • hahahah what a lame!!!!

  • He probably got a seal and says its a big fish.

  • im a korean and i like my chinease food cok rigty atdtadatdtatdtatdtdtadadadad

  • Why would you stop the spool???

  • @Saltiga5 Tire out the fish.

  • spider wire sucks!!!

  • yea front drag spin gets tricky on the run! this happens to us all small rod wrong time LOL keeps us back for more !

  • @fixmyhvac yeah and his friends were touching the rod

  • u guys suck big wang

  • NEVER and i mean NEVER tighten the drag while fighting a big fish like this. Should keep the pole up, and keep a firm grip on the handle of that reel. Let the fish tire itself out and eventually you'll be able to slowly reel it in. Patience is a virtue.

  • bat ray

  • it was problably a big shark

  • probably a bat ray.. they tend to spool people.

  • why is the other guy getting in the way? and messing with the drag. he should bring his own rod and catch his own fish.

  • u fuckin suck

  • dont touch the drag guys are touching his rod a shit then at the end his budddy tightens the drag then he cups the spool then blink fish gone

  • Yeah this guy sucks at fishing!! haha you got 30LB braid with a $20 reel that has prolly 8lb of drag at max hahaha what a chodeeee, get some real equipment and then go fishing buddy lol

  • Farmers!!!! Nice equipment!! Great "helper" grabbing the rod, line and adjusting the drag for you. LMAO

  • @STUPEDAS0 I was under the assumption that the "helper" was going to cause the rod to blow up....

  • haha, that sucks

  • hes just a stupid gook who thinks he knows every thing

  • ur a fuccn noob

  • Hooking the fish is half the battle. The way he was playing the fish clearly shows he's a beginner. He should be pulling the rod up and reeling down. Anytime you pull up, it creates pressure on the fish which tires it out faster. Anyone with fishing experience can tell you that. I was able to land a 100+ pound sting ray with 20# mono. It took me 45 minutes, but it did tire me out. The other important thing is to use good hooks and a strong leader.

  • Super Googen!

  • i went fishing there and cautgh a 100lb sting ray on 35lb test line and i got it up the pier with some help

  • even if you would of got it under control you still wouldnt have got it to the pier

  • This sucks soooo bad !!! I know the feeling. It is usually when you get something that you were not prepared to catch when this happens. Anyways he could never have gotten it up to the pier.

  • get a penn bait cast reel duhhhh

  • How could I have stopped such a potential beast, he just wouldnt stop, not once did he ever gave me a chance to collect some line, could it have been a sword fish, or a ray, mind you it was pretty good equipment, and most importantly it poped 100lb powerpro, I had a live grunt thrown out there, could have been a cuda too, just cause the damn thing was so fast.

  • I had one worse last week, I was on a dock in Key Biscayne, FL and the reel took off crazy, funny thing was the drag was pretty fu*** tight cause i had a heavy rod so didnt worry too much about damaging it. Anyway it was 100lb power pro braid and the damn thing whichI was not able to see almost spooled my ass completely I had to completely lock the drag up to not loose 275 yards of power pro and the damn thing popped my line. It took about 150 yards in 8-10 seconds, what could it have been?

  • buy heavier line duhhhh

  • get a better reel and rod

  • Comment removed

  • i can break that line ur using with m bare hands watch my vid and see

  • get a good fishing reel next time:)

    6500 baitrunners work well

  • when i went fish i caught stingray but it was so strong it jacked my food

  • I agree. Big bat or shark

  • i dont think its a bat

  • that was cool.

perhaps a RAY OR SHARK... Keep on fishin

  • if mackerel was involed it was a thresher

  • Comment removed

  • jjpear why couldnt it be a shovelnose or a leopard shark...even a big ray would of took a live mack...thresher arent the only fish that take live mack...

  • kuz threshers yank n take off but shovel nose takes of slower n ray takes off but settle down in da sand ya feel me we have lost plenty of thresher to no wat dey do

  • a big bat ray isnt gonna settle in the sand once it knows that its been hooked...and plus even a little 30 pound ray could of spooled that guy....and the chances of it being a ray over a thresher are pretty good since those guys are fishing rite behind the break line...

  • u gotta let the fish tire hi,self out. and dont tighten ur drag so much when ur fighting a fish

  • 1st of all handle ur pole lik a man, 2nd dont let sum random polo wearing bimbo mess wit ur gear. he mess it up.

  • fsddff

  • Did his line pop, didn't look like it. Thats why I use 100lb Power Pro, with a 100lb steel leader at the end, and all my reels hold in excess of 250yds, and all my rods are up to the task of bringing in a shark if necessary.

  • but like if i go to HB, i dont' want a shark. lol i guess he should've expected it if he's using a mack as bait

  • It was the idiot in the white polo jeans t-shirt that fukked it up... Yeah, keep tightening the drag Mr Big shit. pppfffttt.

  • oh ya next time u fish hold ur rod tip up

  • thats 30lb test line i can do way better with 20lb test line, u barely had any line in ur reel. u need to throw that reel away its a piece of shit u need a reel with power, that didnt have any what so ever.

  • yur an idiot

  • HAHAHAHA

  • 1st, you have no skills at all with the way you handle your rod and reel. 2nd, throw away that lousy reel and get a new one. Look like a cheap reel for little kids use.... hahahahaha

  • It was a seal, thats happened to me twice on that same pier last year and both times it was a seal

  • Happen to me too but lucky the seal spit out the hook so i didnt loose anything

  • I can see something like that happening.....

  • You need to get yourself a decent reel that thing your using just aint up to the job

  • @skateguts So true morons..people dont know how to fish....that reel is for is not for big game saltwater fish..its probably a big shark on there..it just chewed right threw there leader.they need a steel wire leader and 50 or 60lb line mono or braid.

  • Most likely a ray, with braid your drag needs to be set just right to land a bigger fish. Its cool i got tooled on the pier befor crap happens you learn from experience.

  • Keep tension on the fish by keeping the rod up, drag slightly tighten, and tighten the drag as the fish goes out further out. It's 30 lb line. If the fish is too big, it's going to brake any way but at least you'd try to tire it out. He was letting the fish run like he had small lines.

  • omg look at his discription!

lol had to be a huge shark lol!

  • probably a ray by the way it pulled the line

  • control the drag and never stand right beside the end of the line I was fishing and this guy was watching right beside my rod end and when the fish jumped he got hit on the head (would have been harder if iteh line had bronken) tighten ur drag too i think it will get a birds nest(almost immpossible on a spinning reeeel

  • Sweet! You got stripped and spooled! Many an angler wishes for that day! Congratulations man!

  • umm i dont think anyone wants that to happen, every fisherman wants to have a good fight and catch the fish, not get spooled lol

  • let me give you a advice...never hold the top thing that has the line in it...you did that...that's why it snap off.trust meh even 80 pound line can do the same thing if you hold that part on the reel and yeah imma sure it's a sting ray..cause how it pull.i can tell from it and yeah i've experience it before.i caught a 500 pound monaray and a 200 pound sting ray and they both run exactly like that..well i've lived about 30 minute walk from the ocean or beach only..so i go fishing for those alot

  • yeah calm down people ,everyone turns into an expert on yt,it does help if you pump the rod back, and reel on the way down(you gain more line back)

  • He got spooled. Sometimes it happens. It was more than likely a big ray anyways. Man you people need to relax.

  • you retard you never tightn up the drag just let it run untill it gets tired.

  • Well if he didnt tighten uo the drag, that he was going to run out of line, look closely its not a baitcaster, its not like he has 300+yds of line to be giving to this big catch, sooner or later it would have dumped his entire spool into the water and woud have snaped it at the very end.

  • i kno its a spinning reel, and i noticed at .28 seconds he tightendup the drag. but it realy didnt matter i dont think there was nothing stoping that catch. i use power pro line 30 lbs test and it has the diameter of a 10 lbs test line, and use a 6500 series shimano baitrunner reel. and it carrys at 200+ yards well thts i think it carrys not sure on that one. but i did have a sturgeon empty my reel.

  • I use 100lb braided, 20lb diameter Power Pro combined with a 24 inch 70 lb leader for those annoying barracuddas, and let me tell you I have not lost one Barracudda, biggest one i caught was 47 pounds and it ran for miles. My setup is so strong with my rod, line, and leader that I mistakingly pulled up what appeared to be a goliath grouper, and instead it was a humoungous coral/rock from under the ocean floor, and the line was 100% OK. It was pretty cool.

  • im the same when you werent lifting and winding and you get changing the drag

  • It makes me pull my hair out when I see someone who doesn't know what they're doing lose a big fish.

  • the reason y u lost this fish is because u were tighning the drag!!!!!! if u were smart u wouldnt tignen it let em take line out ull get em tired eventually!! take this tip in consideration cus ur gonna need it

  • you guys don't know how to fight a fish

you should have set the drag way higher and don't reel when the the fish is swimming away raise the rod up and reel in while you pump it down if you don't you will get line twist

  • Tighten up your drag, Hold your pole up when it's running. Palm your spool,Pump him in, reel on the downward pump. The reel is only a recepticle for the line not to bull the fish in!

  • keep the road tip up.. you want the pole to fight the fish.. not so much the line

  • thats what you get for using cheap shit

  • king mackerel there have been huge 50 pounders on piers cough with offshore stuff i bet kink

  • I would put $20 that it was a bat ray. I fish for them with a 90J and a TLD 20/40 with 300 yards of 65# powerpro with a topshot of 120 yards of 40# pline. They sure do have some shoulders. You guys saying the drag was loose, how the hell would you know if the drags loose? were you there to set it for him? And you guys saying its a permit learn ... theres no permits in california. As for a white sea bass, you have to be lucky as hell to catch one on a pier, let alone one big enough to peel line.

  • Mobait...You can heeeeeear the drag spinning, also he's reeling and reeling without gathering line, while he is already spooled he keeps turning it,that's how you know,I've seen lots of farmer in my days and it not hard to spot one !!! When your a farmer like this guy you wouldn't know any better.

I think your right though he must of been hooked into a bat ray !

  • ok, would you care to explain how one can tell the drag pressure a reel is producing by the sound it emits?

  • Mo,what are you looking for a mathmatical equation! The drag is either broken or to loose, when he turns___thhhhe___ handle___ the___ spool___ spins____and yooooooou___ can hear the clicker clicking, did you get that! Also his bail is____not____gathering line. When the drag isn't tight the spool just spins when the handle is turned and almost all the time you can hear it!I think your to smart for your own well being, some times things are very simple! You don't need meters, gauges, graphs,JUST SAVEY !

  • Bat ray. I agreee with you. Or a spotted eagle ray.. good video guys.

  • ill go with the majoirty on this one. u could have landed that fish but u didnt give it enough stick tighten the drag then give it some pumping an u would have had that

  • No offense but were you really surprised you lost it? That fish whipped you like a red-headed stepchild!

  • tighten the drag pussy. just kidding lol..Youre supposed to pull then reel, not just reel

  • it's your mother in law going swimming and you hooked her

  • need gear 4.2.1

  • Which reel was that? Let us know so that we don't get it. *LOL* j/k. For my fishing, I swear by my Jarvis Walker 6' rod & my Okuma Epixor 55a. They're not really expensive and ya bring in fish like nothing. The setup will run about 120 bucks.

  • Wait, you were using a live mackerel, and this is in California? It is very possible that a seal may have taken it, as is often the case in Ca saltwaters. I also note that throughout the video, there is no movement (jerking) in the rod that would indicate head shakes and thrashing - activities common for a hooked fish. There is a strong possibility that what you had hooked may not even have been a fish at all. Marine Mammal Protection Act prohibits the touching and handling of seals.

  • First of all, why are you reeling in line then the fish is running and pulling in drag - with the use of a spinning reel, this can cause the line to snarl and twist BADLY. Heavy snarls compromise the structural integrity of the line, resulting in eventual breakage. Your next error is in the way in which you fight the fish - with a well set drag, hold your rod up high between 9 and 11 o'clock. This will eventually cause the fish to tire. When it stops, gently pump the rod and reel down.

  • Try to be as gentle and slow while pumping in a large fish in order to DRAG it in without startling it. Startling a large fish can result in it making another long and heavy run - something that you cannot afford to do if you have little line left on the reel. Do not attempt to be a macho showoff - this causes a lot of breakoffs as well. Another fighting tactic is to make a series of short, somewhat rapid upward pumps from 7:30 to 11:30 o'clock, only reeling when lowering the rod tip to...

  • 7:30 without giving any slack to start the cycle all over again. Remember to rely upon your rod, and NOT the reel when fighting in a large, challenging fish. The reel is only meant as a line storage device, and not as a primary fish fighting instrument - your rod should be doing the MAJORITY of the work on the fish. If the fish decides to run, just let him run as soon as possible while trying to "retrieve" him. I would also recommend good quality tackle - a tough rod capable of withstanding...

  • a heavy load prior to failure (breakage), a high capacity, premium reel with good quality drag, gear, and body material capable of withstanding saltwater corrosion is a must for the type of fishing that you are doing. Good FORGED hooks will also not bend, unlike wire hooks - poor hooks will cost you fish. Plus, the line probably broke due to abrasion in the line. A powerful fish like a permit will dive for cover as it PANICS at the end of the line. Rocks, wrecks, and other debris cut lines!!!

  • judging by the rod tip and how it is not jerking i would say it was a big batray.

  • Sting Rays usually don't move for long periods like what this dude experienced. They'll pull and stay put. Then do it again if provoked. Whatever this guy had was intent on leaving.

  • I think your right hungry !I've hook them many times and they just freight train until you turn their head but that is only after you wore them down!

  • you suck , your let the fish morn line

  • or a rock dufus

  • This is why you dont buy cheap fishing gear...n00bs

  • tighten up ur drag u moron

  • then he woulda broke the line or rod

  • i hate to tell you this but the gear he is using is crap, so if you were using the same gear you would not be able to get the fish in.

  • The line did break...using the drag properly and palming your spool is essential to tiring the fish so you can real him in...this farmer got spooled !

  • damn those guy dont know how to fish, they fuck

  • drag too light, raise rod to 12 oclock..then reel in as you drop it down fast gaining line...the raise to 12...repeat...

  • power pro sucks

  • lol damn right the stink he sucks....ur crazy u need to make it tired pull in let it go pull in let it go like that

  • dude your drag was way to loose and when you tightend it you did it way to much you should of done little by little you shouldnt of lost that beutiful fish it was problay a permit they tend to run like that i got spooled and i got my permit but i broke of when i gaffed him

  • These guys suck at fishing

  • i bet it was a permit atleast 25 lbs i had same bite and it was 40 lb permit use power pro braid best line ever

  • Remember, pull up reel down.

You might have got him if you did that.

  • the line wouldnt of held but if u reeled it in properly u MIGHT of had a chance of keeping that badboy. unlucky mate.

  • samething happened, same place too.

  • u need better reel tha all hehe an 60lb power pro mang if next time u dont want to loose no fish good hooking

  • look like a big fish i barly went there caught about 30 macks

  • fucken bat ray!! HB piers got tons of them. caught a 100+ there before on 30 lb mono. I also had a daiwa sealine 30 with a calstar graph fighter 900m.

  • thats what u get for using spider line power pro is the best braided line

  • i hated when this happens

  • White Seabass/Jack Crevalle/Pacific Dogtooth Snapper

  • it was the dumb ass on the right of you in the white shirt you dont notice him changing the drag and you hold ur pole up not down pussy you to week to pick it up and also if it was a shark you didnt have a leader on or it could have been a bull red they put up a good fight

  • bull red=redfish but theyre in california

  • I guess we'll never know. I'm guessing it was a shark.

  • that sucks

  • You should learn how to fish.

  • use power pro braid your rod would break before that shit does

  • you are one lucky son of a gun that you broke your line, tennoking. that's your mother in law for sure!!!

  • big bonita

  • First, tighten your drag, 30lb is a lot!

KEEP YOUR DAMN POLE UP NOOB! When you have your pole straight like that, it defeats the whole purpose of using one. (all the tension was going to your reel and line, and not your pole) Your pole was made to bend, so use it!

  • oh men ! u miss a big one

this happen to me b4, turns out to be sturgeon. now i always put 300 plus yard line on the reel

  • a sturgeon might take a live fish if it's a sculpin, goby, or flounder, but not a fast moving pelagic like a mackerel
