  • Happy Birthday Joe!

  • The recording of the whole concert fuck'n sucks. I wish sony would release the concert with a good sound like of FHTE and FHTE2.

  • The only time I saw the Clash live was at the Hollywood Palladium a couple of months before London Calling came out. They had Joe Ely and Mi-sex opening for them (Ely played a great set, but the audience mainly hated him and pelted the stage with garbage while he was on). The Clash did a lot of songs from London Calling, which, of course, we hadn't heard yet, and so the audience was pretty confused because we were expecting mainly material off the first two albums.

  • @robibm2003 Wait, I was at that concert. Didn't Ely and his guitarist dump a trashcan full of ice and water on some guys at the front of the stage after their set? I think Rodney Bingenheimer had played some of London Calling before The Clash came to L.A. 'cuz I don't remember not recognizing a lot of the songs. Anyhow, great stuff. And if you saw them at the Palladium, how come you didn't go to their Santa Monica shows in the other years?

  • This is the same show that the Train In Vain video was made at!

  • I love this Band

  • i like this look better than the shaved head

  • lol that Clip was filmed on my Bday... 5*

  • Badass Topper drumming. Substantial!

  • @tomicabt Best drummer hands-down, total machine

  • I saw The Clash in LA on the Combat Rock tour. It was so great. They are one of the best bands of all time!

  • Chicken Biriani, Gumbo, Dark Chocolate with hints of Orange , Oatmeal Stout, The Clash. Things I like to consume and that give me nourishment. God bless all four of 'em. 'specially Joe.

  • I can't believe the sound quality!

  • You don't owe nothing, so boy get runnin'

It's the best years of your life they want to steal

  • Too right!

  • Topper fucking Headon...

  • They attack the crowd like it's a street fight. Only band that ever mattered.

  • The best band ever.

  • 0:53 = <3

  • Seeing The Clash there were always those little moments that made a person smile. They could entertain themselves as well as the audience, couldn't they?

  • ISAIAH 10.1-(?)

Woe to those to enact unjust laws and issue oppressive decrees!

Woe to those who rob the poor of their rights and deprive the helpless of justice!

They prey on widows and plunder the orphans.

What will you do on the day of punishment?

Where will you flee for help when disaster suddenly comes?

Where will you save your wealth?

  • the only band that fucing matter

  • Mick 'Fucking' Jones!

    1:48 - 2:16

  • Does anyone know what he says at the beginning of this song (album version). I've been listening to London Calling since it's release (I was in Jr High) and have yet to figure it out.

  • "1-2-3-4! Hey, hey! Ooh! the kingdom is ransacked the jewels all taken back and the chopper descends they're hidden in the back with a message on a half-baked tape with the spool going round saying im back here in this place and i could cry and there's smoke you could click on"
  • yes, it's true. The Clash is the perfect rock band but without topper, not Clash (sorry for my english).

  • topper, the best drummer

  • Yeah, Topper's a genius, but I think they were all so good at what they did, the perfect rock band.

  • only god can beat the clash .....wait! he was their lead singer :D

    rip joe strummer

  • HAHA! true!

  • Haha! I would give that 100,000 thumbs up if it would let me.

  • at their height.

  • btw is there anyone how knows what Joe is saying in the begining of this song on the reccord. I can't hear!

  • The kingdom is ransacked, the jewels all taken back And the chopper descends They're hidden in the back, with a message on a half-baked tape With the spool going round, saying I'm back here in this place And I could cry And there's smoke you could click on

  • I love that part when Mick sings !

  • Fantastic! One of my favorite Clash songs in a high-quality live clip. Thank you for posting this!

  • From that era: The Clash, Ramones, Motorhead, the Who, the Doors.

    My favorites.

  • n the pistols?

  • oh god... rest in peace, joe. i really do miss you!

  • the clash, the ramones, the new york dolls ans the cramps.... best bands ever.... for me hehehe...

  • What a great band

  • whoever posted this vid, the name of the song is just "Clampdown", not "Working For the Clampdown"

  • No. before the release of London Calling, the song was always called "I'm not working for the Clampdown" on gigs. Well, at least in the beginning of the "Take The Fifth" tour, I have two bootlegs from the tour, and the song was always represented with the longer name. And before the lyrics of the song were made, the song was called "Working And Waiting". And on the record, it was shortened into "Clampdown".

  • legend

  • this is a real classic piece of Rock n Roll history.

My nomination for eurovision, National anthem & bed time lullaby.

This should be taught at school, and sung in church.

A massive band at the top of their game- Is the the best ever Clash film?

  • C L A S H I S M Y L I F E . . .

  • probably one of my favourite songs of all time

  • hey,i'm a yank who grew up loving the clash, and especially this song, because it mentions harrisburg, which is the name of the city i grew up in -- harrisburgs basically a working-class ex-steel and railroad town,so it seems to fit in with the song -but is there a town cross the pond with the same name?

  • where does it mention harrisburg?

  • At the end of the song it says 'working hard in harrisburg..'

  • no i dont think there is pal. according to the joe strummer book ive got he wrote it while on tour in the u.s...so i would imagine its about where u grew up

RIP joe strummer......long live the clash

  • this song rules.

  • Kick over the wall, cause governments to fall - how can you refuse it?

  • how i would kill to be there

  • The Clash makes me hard!

  • isn't it amazing how in a band of front-men Joe, Mick, Paul and Topper all managed to stand out at the same time.

  • The only band that matters.

  • Topper is awesome

  • Topper!!!!

  • Joe...We are all missing you a lot!

    Long Live Clash!

  • the quality of image/audio is excellent!

    thanks for this upload!

    R.I.P. Joe Strummer.

  • I was at this concert..Brilliant it was...Remember it was filmed...Joe played a bit to the cameras and in between songs mentioned it was for American TV...Anyone know where or how to get the whole show?

On this tour saw them too at the Electric Ballroom in Camden and had tickets for shows at Mile End odeon and the odeon Balham. They were cancelled tickets were exchanged for later dates at Hammersmith Palais....Any info on video footage relating to these shows very much appreciated.

  • only clampdown and train in vain were filed from this show unfortunately. budget reasons i think.

  • too bad there isn't any video footage from the 1979 usa tour... would be awesome!

  • Joe Strummer, my hero. We need him now more than ever. I constantly mourn his passing.

  • An ever present message, even now with the credit crunch.

  • hey anyone knows if this WHOLE show can be found on the internet ??

I got the "Live: Revolution ROck" DVD and it seems to be the best Clash show ever filmed, and it sounds great!

    please answer ! !

    greets from argentina

  • I have it too.

    Great Band, my favourite.

  • "in these days of evil Presidentes...

But lately one or two has fully paid his dues"
