This is by far one of my favorite pieces of classical music. The fact that you actually played it is an accomplishment on its own. I am no expert but I felt that you were stiff and off at the beginning of the piece. One could say it was your interpretation of the piece. However I have never heard of the beginning performed this way before. Once you warm up, you hold your own and you sound better and better past the midpoint. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, this is a challenging piece, but it still is far from the hardest. I still think Alkan's Le Preux beats this by a long shot, according to the digital recording by Nanasakov. Only 2 recordings of it are on youtube, one slow, and one that is good but not nearly as fast or perfect as the digital recording. Opus Claviceumbalisticum is also one of the hardest pieces, and Circus Gallop by Hamelin.
WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!!! It is deep, sincere, descriptive, highly impressionistic, obviouslyt with amazing technique (id expect this of like Glenn Gould) and just having the tendency to WOW ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I can play like this someday!!!!!
brilliant! I saw how it looks on paper - this is unbelievable :-) hail to the pianist! perhaps he plays the most difficult piano composition in the world!
thanks, it´s like a drug to me... and actually Ravel tried to compose the most difficult piece in the world when he wrote "Gaspard de la Nuit". Up to then Balakirev´s "Islamey" was considered the most difficult piece. But most important; it is not difficult for the sake of being difficult, it is also fantastic music, every note of it!
I don´t know that one ;-) I´ll try to search for it in this magnificent place. There is so much complicated music from modern composers. But actually it is as difficult to play a beautiful melody with a beautiful tone. (Almost) anyone can play with fast fingers. Try to watch Cortot playing and talking at the same time on my channel "koncertpianist" at Youtube. It is so extemely sensitive!!! I don´t understand a word he is saying, but the music tells it all!.... Or Rach playing Gluck
thank you! yes, according to the legend we spoke one language long time ago and somehow we lost this ability. and now we have one of some languges which unites us - the language of music! :-)
When I studied in Moscow I actually tried to learn russian, but I must admit, gave it up, to concentrate on our common language ;-)I got a good excuse not to come to my russian lesson, when Jeltsin attaced the White House and there were snipers on the roofs in the streets and soldiers hiding behind sand sacks outside the students house... And my russian teatcher didn´t speek english, so she was not a very good teatcher...
I was a baby-child when it happened, so I can't remember it as a beholder. But I know that it was terrible. not a pretty good time for foreigner to live in Moscow. but now things are terribly different from that time of troubles. and why do you consider your teacher as 'not a very good teacher'?
I am not talking about my piano teatchers! No, I couln´t communicate with my russian teatcher, because she didn´t speak english. The only thing she did, was to read from the book in russian, and I didn´t understand a word of it, just tried to repeat...

yes! it's really brilliant impressionist's piece! I even can imagine this scarbo :-)
and now I think that the most difficult piece in thw world is Sorabji's Opus Clavicembalisticum and it also really deep-hearted!

I think Alkan's Concerto for Solo piano was composed before this and Islamey, and is more difficult.

That is simply amazing.

It looks as though Ravel thought he was painting a wall when covering the sheet with black colour...
