Is that Tony Kenning on drums? Or Rick Allen? I can't tell.
Wow, look at Sav! His hair wasn't all curely like it was in the late 80's, when he was really cute. <3333
Yeah Pete Willis! This is the first video I've seen with him in it. And probably the only one. He actually isn't in Bringin' On The Heartbreak for some reason...
@DefLeppard981 Pete is also is the videos for: hello america, let it go, bringin on the heartbreak (the first vid not the one with phil), wasted, and rock brigade, etc.
@DefLeppard981 He is on the original video for Bringin... actually. He is also in the video for Let It Go, and Hello America, as well as early footage for Rock Brigade and Wasted.
And for anyone who wonders, the Hamer "explorer" is called a Hamer Standard, and Steve also had one which he used live in the early days.
my school guidance counselor is a Leppard fan, so we were talking and he said "alot of people call me crazy for saying this, but i think High n Dry has a very AC/DC sound." and he's right, at least by this song anyway. the guitar riff sounds alot like an AC/DC one. And Lange produced this album right after Back In Black so it DOES make sense...
The solo in this is has to be an all time top 10, maybe top 5. It's got everthing a solo should have. The bass track is also kickin' it. All Gibson, accross the stage.
@QuorthonandCronos Hey hey hey... easy on the one-armed thing buddy. The band may have slowed a bit after the accident, but it never suffered musically because of it. Rick can still pound out the old shit like before.
Shame they gave Pete the boot because of drinking. Steve (RIP) never got kicked out for the same thing. Pete should have gotten another chance after Steve passed away.
@cliffthelightning Maybe there is some relevance to that but, the band statement was that Pete was fired due to his drinking problem. All I'm saying is Steve didn't receive the same punishment. Might have ultimately saved his life. Still, I think Pete should have gotten another chance after Steve passed.
@vf74tomcat Steve's drinking problem was only center around himself. When Def Leppard was recording albums and touring, Steve's drinking was under control.
@MikeRambo Following Hysteria, the band quickly set out to work on their fifth album, hoping to avoid another lengthy gap. Steve Clark's alcoholism worsened to the point that he was constantly in and out of rehab. Recording sessions suffered from this distraction, and in mid-1990, Steve was granted a six-month leave of absence from the band. Clark died from an accidental mix of prescription drugs and alcohol on 8 January 1991, in his London home. Steve got the break Pete never did.
Pete was a great guitar player, high n dry was a heavy guitar driven album, notice how they lost that harder edge after they kicked him out.Pyromania was still good I herd he worked on that album before he got the boot!
I played ths album and On Through The Night repeatedly every day for months in 1983. Even though I am just hearing it now again for the first time in almost 30 yrs, I still know every lyric and chord. Today I find it amazing that a 15 year-old kid discovered what would be one of the greatest albums of all time. What a gift!! This song and Another Hit and Run are my faves.
RIP STEVE CLARK, your genius and talent is truly missed!
@jrsb3892 Well, MTV played their videos nearly 24/7 back then as the video stock was limited (many older bands thought that videos would be a "fad"). I too was only about 12 when this record was released. I couldn't believe that most of the guys in the band were only in their teens, just a few yrs older than me. Mutt Lange, who also produced later ACDC albums (if I'm not mistaken), was the real genius behind their early sound (shouting chorus, crunchy guitars, clean drumming, etc)
@Marijane1968 Band is ripe with fashion faux pas! Clark's outfit is all white! If you look closely at Rick Savage's shirt...you'll see that it's tied off at the bottom. I agree, Joe's outfit is suspect even for 1981.
@UberKrispy lol..hes actually 4 foot 10.Def Leppard was all a bunch of drunks and Pete was the only one to get canned? Pete got fired for image reasons. He was the original Def Leppard sound and thought Mutt Lange was stupid for wanting to make the band weaker sounding. The MTV bug bit the band and they felt having a dwarf on guitar didnt help them. All the good songs on Pyromania still had pete's guitar parts in them and he wrote all the hard songs on it...proof positive he was the real sound.
Pete Willis is a masterful guitarist. It was a shame he got fired before Leppard hit real big. But he even said himself, getting fired was the best thing that could have happened to him. He knew if he kept drinking the way he was he would have ended up like Steve Clark. Pete co wrote 4 songs on Pyromania and recieved a large royalty payment so he was taken care of. Pete and Steve were a great team. When Steve died they should have asked Pete back.
I bought the HIGH AND DRY album in 81...I loved it ..Lot of great heavy riffs. They were playing in Des Moines w/ Ozzy..but I coulndnt make it. Then...they kinda wimped out..over the years. HIGH AND DRY was some great NWOBHM.
Wow man I am glad someone finally said it. AC?DC is a great band I have seen them several times. and this Def leppard thing is such a mystery to me. I mean you are so right they are pussies and they suck . I guess that is why they have been around so long and have sold millions of albums to people in every country around the world. weird HUH.
