no in a real rescue one i would be in the water sooner also would go to the closest wall and the whole rescue would be done in under 30 second not the 90 in the video
@yeshaya17 you can lift them out with two people even if the victim is unconcious, one person holding the arms under the armpit and a bystander pushing up the legs
@95sniper95 I could not agree any more on that. This is red cross procedure for active drowning victim. But, for the YMCA active drowning procedure, we stick the rescue tube under there armpits similar to red cross "swimming extension rescue" and we keep a distance away from them. Even though YMCA hasn't updated the manual guidelines in about 10 years its still better and much simpler then the red cross procedures. I'm a dual certified YMCA and Red Cross Lifeguard!

according to red cross protocol a backboard is used for removal from water
yeshaya17 2 months ago
@yeshaya17 only when you suspect a spinal injury or the victim is unconscious
MrMonoxide123 1 month ago
@MrMonoxide123 it is used for all removals from water unless victim can get out on their own

You should have given him something to hold on to. A weak swimmer might grab hold of you and you are then putting yourself in danger.

horrible use of backboard. why did he swim half way across the pool ? he should have got him out at the nearest exit possible.
