George Bush - swamped in oil interests - has been doing everything he can to push prices up. He makes money off the stuff.
Yeah, he'll SAY we need to cut back but remember that this is the guy who gave us the one-fingered salute and laughed at us.
The best place for GWB is LFP (Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary) and he needs company - the former director of Halliburton (you, know, the guys who are giving our soliders contaminated water to drink) Dick Cheney.

Why should OPEC try to reduce the price of oil? If the US is concerned why not release the strategic oil reserves to lower the global price.
Alternative energies will reduce fuel consumption but oil is also used in plastics. if the US stopped buying oil today prices would not drop by much, China and India would buy up the oil.
