is it a synth? is it a sampler? is it a combined recording studio in a box? hmm, maybe. well i know i really love this synthesizer-workstation very much
@Thrillrjunior34 Motif? Hah! The O is in a league of it's own. I played an O back in 2005, and even the latest Motif's piano still doesn't even come close. If you get a Motif, you'll have to buy third party libraries, and even then, it still isn't the O. Motif is good for the VCM effects, but OASYS is good for almost everything else.
The Motifs have a bunch of great sounds in them, but their built-in piano sounds are still nowhere near the O's. In addition, Motif has no alternative synthesis types, and the O has at least 4 others besides sample playback. Owning an OASYS is almost as good as owning a Fairlight or a Synclavier was back in the 1980's. I'd get the 76 key version if I were you, though, because the 88 key version is very heavy, especially if you're taking it on the road.
I had the absolute PLEASURE of using one of these for a track on a project- KORG continues to impress me and lead the industry. I still love the M1, the 707, and well- just about every other instrument they ever made. I DID NOT dig the digital pianos of about 17-18 years ago, although the cabinet was cool (shaped like a petite grand).
@albrestevez The Kronos is "better" in the sense that it is newer, and the sounds are better, and it can run more stuff, like vsti plugins, but the OASYS is still a monolith comparable to nothing else. The huge tiltable screen and the led bottons all which make the Kronos seem "lesser". The Kronos is often described as the Oasys 2. This I do not agree with. I would rather describe the Kronos as an instrument that is ment to be sold, where the OASYS was more of a "look what we can actually do".
I have to say i'm disappointed in a lot of oasys owners. I hope once I buy the kronos I don't turn into a selfish egotistical asshole and can appriciate the fact more folks can now enjoy what they've had for the last 6 years. If it's that good, everyone deserves it not so few. Yes they paid their money but if they are crying now aren't they admitting it was worth it? I doubt most of them have even worked out 50% of the systems capabilities let alone 100%.......not all but some are jerks
Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong
indeed OASYS was created to be the BEST sythesizer workstation! But it was also created for the most demanding and creative musicians who need every single one of its possibilities...for me...i would prefer KORG M3 cause its easier to use it and has almost the same potentials as the OASYS (and of course dont forget the touch screen with the X-Y mode of the M3)
I have had my Oasys for nearly two years. I am mesmerized by it and have barely even touched it's real capabilities. KARMA is an incredible soundscape.
@imaxximus hi , i'm thinking to buy this OASYS. can u tell me , that is this still available? i need the keyboard keys, which is oasys 73 or 76. please let me know.. thanx.
@MrKORG1980 It went out of production in 2009 (iirc). Only around 4000 was made (something like 2500 88 key and 1500 76 key) (again iirc), so good luck finding one :)
i play the piano, im 15 and have been playing for about a year, im wanting to build my own music room but my will not let me move the piano in there, she said i could pick out a key board... is this a good one? will it be difficult to use?
@dm3857 If your fucking loaded man, go for it. But if you've only been playing for a year you don't want something this capable. This has midi and pre-recording shit and more. If your just playing and practicing, check out the Yamaha MM6 or the Korg Triton or something similar. Anything Yamaha really. Good luck.
@dm3857 Hi. from korg there are 3 workstation that are great. the oasys (9000 euro), the m3 (2500 euro) und the m50 for (1000 euro).
it depends for what you ned them. For just playing are the m50 and the m3 are a great solution. For Professional recording and playing the Oasys is just perfect.
just go to an korg dealer orr music store and test each instrument within your finacal range.
just play different instrument in different stores until you find the one that just fitts you.
@angelero241977 I stick with the Korg Triton Extreme 88. It has so far been able to satisfy all my desires. Playability, Live support, recording and sequencing. The sound quality difference from the Triton Extreme to the Oasys is almost irrelevant as well, as it all depends on the monitor it runs through.
I don't know about you, but I think the m50 and m3 are impractical with a strange design for live performance and playability. You need to adjust for a whole new user interface. ; o
Overpriced "Jack of all trades/Master of none". It "has" a 16 track digital recorder. You can buy a dedicated Tascam 24 track recorder, both Yamaha/Roland flagship keyboards, a few expansion cards/ROMS, perhaps a used Triton, an analog Alesis Andromeda, & still have $ left over! & you'd have greater variety/flexibility of sounds & recording. Granted the OASYS is beautiful, but what was KORG thinking? How many $8k units can you sell? Obviously not enough, since they discontinued it.
If you ever get one of these, DON"T SELL IT, except to me :-) It's so awesome, they had to discontinue it due to manufacturing costs, and it's extremely well built. But there's not that much more coming out for it, that I can tell, despite the "Open Architecture" - more of a goal, despite awesome quality and original synthesizers EXSi, EXS1 and EXS2 and other wonderful models, I would hope they keep going! The KARMA is powerful but you either like it or leave it. Burn your CDs!!

@SamplingMastersAZURE There's something I don't understand : they say the interface is quit eintuitive so, easy to use... do we only use some rudiments in synthetising to understand the basics of the Oasys ?!?! Yes !!!!
This Workstation is not compareble to the East West series of VSTi's. You should buy East West Goliath and a midi keyboard for a much cheaper price then this workstation, and East West Goliath blows the Korg Oasys away.
Sorry for barging in, I am a professional Pianist and Electronic music composer with 22 years exp. With extensive knowledge in Keyboard. Stay away from M Audio they might look good but they are far from being good. If you are looking for a good controller the older Fatars are a lot better or Yamahas CP-200 and CP-300 The Yamaha YPG-635 is a great keyboard for a budget studio $799. If you want let me know exactly what you are looking for. So I can lent best possible advice, Cheers.
MIDI keyboards are not synthesizers, nor do they produce their own sound patches. You must conjoined them with VST, VSTi, DXi or RTAS virtual instruments, which are themselves engined by a specific DAW [ digital audio workstation] and/or standalone player :)
Acoustica Pianissimo, 4Front True Pianos, Modartt PianoTeq2.3, East West Bosendorfer290 are great! Project Sam's Symphobia, East West Hollywood Strings and Garritan Gofriller Cello for great string sounds ;)
I have this, I play the piano, I have a piano teacher, my dad plays the piano/keyboard and was in a band. I have had my oasys for almost two years... and I still have no idea how to use it... lol.
@luckyguitar123 There isn't one. And I don't think there's gonna be another OASYS for a long time, or at least until the economy gets better. And the M3 is NOT it. Discontinued or not, though it is THE BEST synth/workstation by which all other keyboards are judged.
It's around 10K maybe less now, that's how much i paid for mine a year ago. If you can buy it go for it. I had M3 first and I tought i was ready for this beast but I am still learning things on it. It's just amazing, it has no end to ideas. Test it first somewhere in the shop to understand what you can do.
Its the ribbon controller, its assignable, meaning you can assign it to do a variety of functions, such as alter the cutoff frequency of a sound e.t.c
Not an impressive instrument at all according to KORG themselves. They used real accoustics instrument recordings and added them in their Demo's "to make it sound convincing'. Dont trust my word on this: look at their comments yourself in the Peter Schwartz discussion on his composition for OASYS - "Sinfonia Russe".. (@ the korg site...)
Get the OASYS and prepare to NEVER look back! After 15 years of playing keyboards (and I've played them ALL!) and having the OASYS for the past year, I can honestly say that NOTHING comes even CLOSE to this keyboard. I had the G8, and took it back in exchange for TWO Fantom-X8's because of the SRX Boards and the sequencer. The G8 has some SERIOUS flaws that need to be addressed ASAP and Roland is NOT fucking doing it!
Definitely!!! Love my Oasys...U have to understand, folks with a casio mentality would never understand..lol And the great thing about it....it paid for itself in less than 6 months...You have any tracks online?
You need to own one to feel the power of Korg. If not...get down to the shop and try it you're self. I have been in to music and keyboards for a very long time but i have never seen a product like this. It has UNLIMITED options "NOW" and I am trying to think of something that I can't do on it so I can complain. Please try this keyboard somewhere even if you dont have money to buy it, just try it and listen what comes out.

All you dummies need to stop moaning about the price and find OTHER ways around the high prices. I have a macbook pro with about 20,000 dollars worth of software on it, and I didn't pay a goddamn cent for it - thank god for torrents and rapidshare.
P.S. The Oasys isn't worth it, just get a laptop, then download all that NI, Logic 8, Cubase, Reason, Fruity Loops, Waves API, SSL Neve emulations, and you will have a workstation that is a million times more powerful at a fraction of the price.
^^^^^ muppet pirate ^^^^^ give the developers some cash (and props of course) D***head. Stealing software to nake music isnt a viable way around high prices, ie reason costs about £300 if u can afford a macbook u can afford to buy s/ware for it.
Listen, everyone knows that the only problem with the oasys is the price. Oasys is better than the new fantom g, no contest. Yet, im getting the fantom g. Why? Because the oasys costs way too goddamn much. There was a guy that commented on another video that said he took out a LOAN to get the oasys. A LOAN! I love music, but its not going to blind my common sense by spending up to $7000 on a keyboard. Ill "settle" with the fantom. The fantom isnt half bad you know.
Hey marv! Shut the fuck up! I PAID OFF THAT LOAN IN TWO MONTHS BECAUSE OF HOW MUCH IT IMPACTED ME!!!!!! I COULDN'T GET OFF IT WHEN I GOT IT. I ENDED UP MAKING LIKE 300 TRACKS IN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS. GUESS HOW MANY I SOLD? 300! SHUT THE FUCK UP!
Coolguy64 you really need to relax more.. so shouty, i have an oasys76 (and an m3 which u seem to hate??..) but i dont shout at everyone who cant afford it, or can't justify the cost of it (ebacuse of family, food, cars etc... Its not what u own, its how u use it that matters.
you are so right on it. I have a m3 also and no it does not have the power of the king oasis but boy it is still a beast. the drums and the karma 2 technology yea boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem with the idiots out there that are talking down about the Oasys is that have no idea of how to program a sound and are non creative minded souls and still live with there parents asking for money because they are poor minded and cannot afford a studio board.
Sure! A $7000 super bike is a beautiful flagship Yamaha Motorcycle. What's your point? There's a REASON to its price tag! And BY FAR the biggest difference is in its sound quality. The $8000 price tag on the OASYS isn't all that bad, considering what it offers. You just have to understand it. Period.
For all the musicians reading this who want to buy an Oasys, here a tip: save your money and buy a macbook pro with an Apogee Duet. The total cost will be about 3000 dollar, and you get better converters with the Apogee Duet.
Then hit up bittorent and download all the latest DAWs such as Logic Pro and all the latest plug-ins like the Waves SSL 4000 and all the native instruments stuff for free. It doesn't cost a thing because software is free. And hey presto, you a super workstation.

Oasys is an overprice piece of plastic, you have got to be crazy to buy this sack of shit. The sounds are appalling, I have a buddy who owns a music shop in Austin, and I've been to his house to try out some of the latest gear and let me tell you softsynths blow the crap out of the Oasys.
Even the cheap 200 dollar softsynths sounds a million times better than the garbage Oasys, with it's 233 pentium processor.
So far, old things have been predominant, such as wavestation technology, MS20, Polysix, even the MOD-7 which is FM based, is also an old technology. If Korg designers look around at Spectrasonics and Ni etc and Symbolic sound and Max msp they must feel they got left behind on that level at some point.
The MOD-7 goes FAR BEYOND FM Synthesis! FM is an old form of synthesis, but for the first time EVER, FM Synthesis is actually EASY to program. Look at the DX-7. Dinky little 2-line display and a few buttons. That board was a BITCH to program, yet everybody wanted one! With MOD-7 you have all those DX-7 patches at your disposal, Step Sequencing, 9 ENEVELOPE GENORATORS! 4 LFO's, PLUS the 6 VPM Oscillators?! You have GOT to be ONE IGNORANT FUCK to see that as old and outdated!
Hey what will be up in the future? My feeling is that the oasys system if it is to keep going forwards needs to start to embrace newer sofware designs like Reaktors travelizer , Grainsynth etc and implement granular synthesis and more exotic stuff like this.
And it probably will. People are BEGGING for a better Sequencer on the OASYS, too. I think it's gonna happen. But with the current EXi's on the OASYS, they are just as good as many of the Softsynths out there in features. But in sound, there is no contest. Whatsoever. The OASYS beats the SHIT out of EVERY Softsynth I've heard, sonically. Spend some time with it and you'll see that, too. Period. I have enough experience with Softsynths to know the difference.
Exactly. minatone66 and leyroy, get the fuck out of here. There are people that absolutely LOVE this Synth because of what it does. Not to mention how AMAZING it sounds.
And Leyroy, Out of touch?! OUT OF TOUCH?! Have we not discussed that before? REAL Musicians, and REAL Keyboard players play KEYBOARDS! NOT Softsynths! Period! The OASYS was THE BEST thing that has EVER happened to me, but you guys are too FUCKING STUPID to even FATHOM how AMAZING this keyboard is! Get the FUCK out. NOW!
Haven't I called you out a couple of times for trolling, Leroy? I remember you claimed Timbaland was superior to Jordan Rudess, which obviously, was just a failed attempt at trolling.
You know what, leyroy? FUCK YOU! Wake the FUCK up! The mere fact that you even bring money into this shows what a fucking IGNORANT asshole you are! There are VERY FEW softsynths that have actually impressed me. NI is one of the few. Reason is another awesome softsynth. But MOST of them are crap! I don't give a fuck where the money is! I want QUALITY! Something which you don't even understand! You IGNORANT FUCK!
lol faggot ass we all laughin at ya cuz u stupid yo.. oasys iz tha shyt. jus cuz i type like this..doesn't mean I can't speak proper enlgish. So learn to leave people alone here with their opinions.

I mean midi keyboard which is able to perform REALISTIC sound of piano, strings, etc (talking just about midi keyboard, not VST's
THANK YOU very much for time to answer:)

@entropiaan Have you tried the M-Audio 88 keystation? Google it and look at reviews.
haakondale 1 year ago
Hmm... Keystation Pro88 seems really nice
I tried 88es, but semi-weighted keys doesn't fit to me. Black keys are "faster" then white, tho:)
Like i said Pro88 seems great andt the price isn't the worst too..... I'll try it :))
THANKS, really

Sorry for barging in, I am a professional Pianist and Electronic music composer with 22 years exp. With extensive knowledge in Keyboard. Stay away from M Audio they might look good but they are far from being good. If you are looking for a good controller the older Fatars are a lot better or Yamahas CP-200 and CP-300 The Yamaha YPG-635 is a great keyboard for a budget studio $799. If you want let me know exactly what you are looking for. So I can lent best possible advice, Cheers.
ObeeLektro 1 year ago 2
MIDI keyboards are not synthesizers, nor do they produce their own sound patches. You must conjoined them with VST, VSTi, DXi or RTAS virtual instruments, which are themselves engined by a specific DAW [ digital audio workstation] and/or standalone player :)
Acoustica Pianissimo, 4Front True Pianos, Modartt PianoTeq2.3, East West Bosendorfer290 are great! Project Sam's Symphobia, East West Hollywood Strings and Garritan Gofriller Cello for great string sounds ;)

Not sure yet--have to see what Korg shows at the upcoming NAMM show.
Microsloth 2 years ago
@luckyguitar123 There isn't one. And I don't think there's gonna be another OASYS for a long time, or at least until the economy gets better. And the M3 is NOT it. Discontinued or not, though it is THE BEST synth/workstation by which all other keyboards are judged.

It's around 10K maybe less now, that's how much i paid for mine a year ago. If you can buy it go for it. I had M3 first and I tought i was ready for this beast but I am still learning things on it. It's just amazing, it has no end to ideas. Test it first somewhere in the shop to understand what you can do.

P.S. The Oasys isn't worth it, just get a laptop, then download all that NI, Logic 8, Cubase, Reason, Fruity Loops, Waves API, SSL Neve emulations, and you will have a workstation that is a million times more powerful at a fraction of the price.
studiointernnigga 3 years ago
^^^^^ muppet pirate ^^^^^ give the developers some cash (and props of course) D***head. Stealing software to nake music isnt a viable way around high prices, ie reason costs about £300 if u can afford a macbook u can afford to buy s/ware for it.
chiefie11 3 years ago 2
Listen, everyone knows that the only problem with the oasys is the price. Oasys is better than the new fantom g, no contest. Yet, im getting the fantom g. Why? Because the oasys costs way too goddamn much. There was a guy that commented on another video that said he took out a LOAN to get the oasys. A LOAN! I love music, but its not going to blind my common sense by spending up to $7000 on a keyboard. Ill "settle" with the fantom. The fantom isnt half bad you know.
marvgq 3 years ago 2

The problem with the idiots out there that are talking down about the Oasys is that have no idea of how to program a sound and are non creative minded souls and still live with there parents asking for money because they are poor minded and cannot afford a studio board.
Peace
djmann7777 3 years ago 5
We ain't talking down for the oasys, but we just say that it'¨s to expensive... Would you give $7000 for a new super bike?
soduno 3 years ago
Period.
CoolGuy64 3 years ago

It is out of date and thin sounding.
Randy5thGenTexan 3 years ago
right right....
DUT011 3 years ago
So far, old things have been predominant, such as wavestation technology, MS20, Polysix, even the MOD-7 which is FM based, is also an old technology. If Korg designers look around at Spectrasonics and Ni etc and Symbolic sound and Max msp they must feel they got left behind on that level at some point.
minaton66 3 years ago
CoolGuy64 3 years ago
Its generators (only one O) btw. cant really call others ignorant now can u...
chiefie11 3 years ago
Hey what will be up in the future? My feeling is that the oasys system if it is to keep going forwards needs to start to embrace newer sofware designs like Reaktors travelizer , Grainsynth etc and implement granular synthesis and more exotic stuff like this.
minaton66 3 years ago
And it probably will. People are BEGGING for a better Sequencer on the OASYS, too. I think it's gonna happen. But with the current EXi's on the OASYS, they are just as good as many of the Softsynths out there in features. But in sound, there is no contest. Whatsoever. The OASYS beats the SHIT out of EVERY Softsynth I've heard, sonically. Spend some time with it and you'll see that, too. Period. I have enough experience with Softsynths to know the difference.
CoolGuy64 3 years ago
all the negative comments here are from poor pricks who can't afford one.
Go back to your atari and cubase seq. and soft synths
I reign over you all.
jasonoots 3 years ago
Exactly. minatone66 and leyroy, get the fuck out of here.
NOW!

-the Filters didn't create real Harmonics there are Fake-Filters with Exciter-Swirl, smooth Filtersweeps are not possible
-the Sounddemos on Korgs Website are boring
they sounded very cold and distorted specially the Mod-7 FM demos are very thin and distored.I cannot hear warmth sounds.
The Basic Sound Charakter of the Oasys is
THIN!!
....and we speak about a "8000$" Instrument!!
minaton66 3 years ago
The Oasys Failed in many disciplines:
-You cannot play fast repeated notes because
the backcheck is very slow
-not liveable because lots of Bugs and Freezes
-poor sequencer, very uncomfortable,Cubase on the old Atari ST Homecomputer is far better to compose
-outdated sample content ,recreated from Triton,Trinity,M1
-outdated Synth engines with very conserative Soundstructure, Massive,Absynth,Reaktor are more Complex and better.
minaton66 3 years ago
Would you consider a Fantom G8, then?
I was thinking of getting it this month
mystikalecho 3 years ago
I have one on Pre-Order. Maxed out G8. That Sequencer ALONE is worth the price tag! Hence WHY I jumped on it!
Later!

Coolguy 64 is the most out of touch "musician" I have ever met in my life.
I mean no one uses hardware keyboards anymore, with their shitty little cheap sounding 500mb roms, or below.
Softsynths are were the money is at nowadays and of course you got the timeless stuff like Martin acoustic guitars, Ludwigs drums and Steinway.
The Oasys is merely a giant disposable piece of crap.
