@rcraig37854 That isn't Billy's fault. And I think it might be in the out going mix from the video. Youtube-compression is known for destroying sound.
You know a band is tight when they can perform so well live that it sounds studio. Many blessings on Billy Currington, he is talent incarnate. Such a wonderful, simple beautiful song!
And believe me, if you have never had the opportunity to talk with an old timer at a bar til closing, you have to do it.
May change your life...
Philosophically speaking, not by being in his will...lol.
He's an example of an actual singer. So many people today (swift) alter their voices in their music videos and then stink it up in performances, but billy isn't one of them. His voice sounded the exact same as in the music video!
the thing that I get the most out of this song is that family or people who think they know you are not always the ones who know you the best or see everything the clearest, but a people with character and honesty who take you for who you are might give you the most respect when respect and honesty are given back!
I've watched this video many times, I have it looping while I'm "working"..lol..A simple song filled with simple truths, sounds like a night any guy could have..(I like blond & redhead chicks too..;)
Billy is a great singer and entertainer, love his stuff...
@pie5243pie Let me tell you what ain't right: Hank ain't a member of the Oprey, Jennings and Haggard were rejected, and the face of your country music is a modern day Porter Wagner minus the sequence sparkel suit. Looks and respect from the establishment is worse than "emo". Look 'for you speak.
I love this song and him...seems to me pie5243pie your alittle jealous of skinny guys. Does'nt matter what the people look like, its the way they sound and sing!!!!
i like this song and this band but if country music is turning into dudes in skinny jeans scarfs red ties and hair slicked over one eye then country is doomed
I remain in awe of this incredibly clever & catchy country song-an instant classic! My favorite song of all time!! God is great, beer is good, & people are crazy..says a lot, don't you think?
David Letterman, along with any other talk show host, has very little to do with who gets booked on their shows. They have people on their staff to do that job. Letterman might want someone specific on his show from time to time, but the people who are popular at the time are the ones who get booked. Letterman probably cares very little about what musical acts are on his show. If they'll bring him ratings, and he'll get to continue sitting in that chair every night, then he couldn't care less.
Dave was being sincere about this song. I've watched him since the beginning (his morning show) and know he's a fan of the old time country honky tonk type music and this song is that type song. You can find a lot of truth in the lyrics of this song if you listen closely.

Trust me, Letterman was being sarcastic. Notice how the crowd laughs as he's making fun of the lyrics at the end. It's because they all knew he was being sarcastic. Plus, I truly doubt that Letterman considers Billy Currington of all people to be his hero, as he says. That's grade A sarcasm. I've watched Letterman since the 80's as well, and believe me, he is NOT being serious.
I don't think Letterman is being sarcastic he's just going along with the craziness of the song - an old man's lived a whole life and he sums it up with God is Great, Beer is Good and People are Crazy and that's about it, it is a song to laugh at and with and that's how Billy sings it
Sissy, I'm sorry you can't pick up on sarcasm. And 22honeybear, Braddock is also the same guy who wrote "I Lobster, but Never Flounder" & "You Can't Have Your Kate & Edith, Too". He writes good stuff, but he writes crap as well. And this falls into the crap box. But you're right, he IS laughing all the way to the bank. It's just sad there are people out there that pay to listen to stuff like this. And is "millionaire he" really any better than "millionairey"? Either way it's a horrible rhyme.
This song was written by Bobby Braddock, who wrote George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today" (considered one of country music's best songs of all time), Tracy Lawrence's "Time Marches On" and many more. Currington does an amazing job with this song and it looks like it might get the CMA's Song of the Year award. Btw, The lyrics are, "He was a millionare he/left his fortune to/some guy he barely knew" not "millionarey". Currington and Braddock are the ones laughing - all the way to the bank.

Billy, I don't know how you can actually perform this song with a straight face. I can almost sense the shame that you have when you perform it, as if you're the biggest sell out there is. And to be honest, you just might be. (A millionarey??! Come on, this sounds like a song written by a middle schooler!) I love how Letterman makes fun of it at the end and the crowd laughs at the ridiculousness of it as well.
