I just saw this track singled out as ''a filler'' on Pornography and an example of ''sound over substance'' on allmusic.com - I was like, WTF!?! To me it's their best track ever and one that I enjoy together with the best songs from Sisters of Mercy's debut album (when I'm in that kind of mood :-)
oh lord this is so fucking genius....one of best songs ever made from the cure!together with one hundred years made the pornography album something very special....
There's something *grand*and "standing tall" about this one. It somehow sounds more open and heartfelt than the rest of the Cure songs - like the despair is being confronted rather than absorbed.
@sibeliandrift Interesting thing I learned is that Robert Smith actually took the figurehead from the Charlotte Sometimes clip and then began to talk to it, professing his guilt to it. I'm sure thats why it seems so confrontational compared to most other songs from The Cure when facing despair. Still, this is one of my favorite songs off this album.
Why can't people make music like this anymore? I hate the music of my generation, there's no talent, no lyrical content, nothing. This is beautiful, haunting, sad... it goes beyond music into art.
I remember listening to this and a lot of Joy Division, visiting cemeteries and being suicidal as a kid. I felt this oneness with death, it was fucking strange....
@KabbalahWestCoast i know it sounds awful but im sorry im just a firm beliver that a masterpice should be left alone if it aint broke dont fix it >;~) so many remake nowdays its so sad really
