That's not a purr. You can actually hear her purring, too. That's a happy trill-type meow.

@NitramNos purring uses the cats larynx. The higher air volume creates a higher pitch. The lower purr you hear is the inhail, which is how cats purr continuously. This cat just knows how to push harder.

Yes, and cats produce their purr using their diaphragm muscles along with the larynx. :) Our cat Caesar purrs so loud that his chest area above his diaphragm heaves in and out constantly, it's a sight to see! :) I would LOVE for him to meet Smokey, because our Caesar's purr is a much deeper sound, the 2 of them together would make a great youtube video :)

hey that sounds like my neighbors old honda trying to start up in the morning, i dont think id count that as a purr, its really more of a purr with her whining or making a "happy noise" in behind it, much like when you hear a cat meow while purring, has the same effect, all in all pretty cat looks almost exactly like mine.

My cat Princess has a really loud purr (especially in the morning), but it's a standard rumbling, mouth-closed purr. She's also pretty chatty (she seems to know a few meowing 'dialects', lots of soft and loud calls, and trilling between syllables...if a cat actually uses syllables, that is) and can be demanding to the point of frustration...and I love her to pieces.

@landraiderares mine for some reason hates alarm clocks, she will lick my head, bite my ear or kneed on my neck till i wake up and fire off many variations of meows a cat doesnt typically belt out ina day, until i turn off that clock. on top of that she likes to stalk toes at night while you sleep, clumsy as hell and falls off everything, but like you i love mine to death.

Not too long before my beloved cat Trouble died, I'd been hurt by an IV hitting the wall of my vein while they were putting in the fluid. After I got back from the hospital, she got on my lap, put her head on the other arm, and purred something like this. I could feel the purr vibrating on my arm. It was like she was trying to make me feel better, and say "I love you" before she died. Perhaps she knew she didn't have much time left. Thank you for sharing and reminding me of a sweet memory.

@PaulaClemens That's my thought, my cat does this and is a hell of a lot louder. Her normal purrs when really happy are very loud and when n the window are louder than this. Most cats however do not meowpurr this long.

That is not a purr, it's a sound signaling irritation. Look at the body language that goes with it -- ears back, turning away from the brush. She would display outright hostility if the source of her irritation wasn't a trusted friend.

That's not purring, that's meowing. The cat's purr can be heard when it's in between meows. Lots of cats can make that sound. Not that it isn't a darling cat.
