  • Greeting from Romania!!!

  • That is the cutest effing thing I have ever seen in my life.

  • @BigBadJooDooDaddy -Thanks BigBadJooDooDaddy. You won't get any arguments from us on that comment.

  • caranatzele, mamalighele, weinele, kastrawetzele, pastramele, etc etc

  • ohne gheld durch die weld!

  • Yiddish is an evolutionary combination of Platz Deutsch (low German as spoken by peasants) with influences of Hebrew and complimented the native language of the country where those Jews lived. But all in all, it is a real language, although a Hybrid one.

  • Love this song. Greetings from Romania!

  • זײער שײן. אַ מחיה צו זען

  • A groyse sheynem dank.

  • What language is this.

  • It's Yiddish. It means a big, beautiful thank-you.

  • Sounds nice:D but has something in comon with german?

  • Yes. It evolved from Medieval German, with Hebrew influences.

  • Great!!! I always loved this song.

  • AZOY!

    u guys r cool

  • thank u

  • sweet kid!

  • Thanks. He still is. We really like him.

    Amy and Jeff.

  • Yes. 1993 in Portland, OR.

  • Cute!! Is this recorded in the 90s?

  • WOW! You can't teach someone that kind of stage presence!

  • Thank-you. Louis is a natural;he has always loved to perform. We are so proud of him.

    Amy Shapiro

  • thank you

  • that's very pretty,the lil boy's voice its adorable!

  • what are saying?

  • The song is about how life was so good back in Rumania, especially the food and wine. It says it was a blessing and a pleasure.

  • "The song is about how life was so good back in Rumania, especially the food and wine. It says it was a blessing and a pleasure."

Especially during the Odessa Massacre or during the Ceausescu era.

  • Yes, we know. The song is tongue in cheek.

  • Who censored my text? Who didn't like my saying a truth: crimes were committed by BOTH Jewish NKVD/KGB commissars AGAINST the Romanian population ('39-'41) and by Romanian troops AGAINST Jewish population in Moldova in retaliation for those crimes in Moldova ('41-'44), obviously in that order?

Who doesn't like to say we were both victims AND criminals, in one order or another?

    I'd like to know!

Meanwhile, Romania and its populations are beautiful!

  • We deleted your last comment because it sounded hateful. We are well aware that there are good and bad people in every country. The truth is life was hard in "the old country." Our relatives came from Moldova, Lithuania, and Ukraine. Aaron Lebedeff wrote a humorous song about life in Rumania. It is not particularly flattering to the Jews, and says nothing bad about Romania. Nothing you wrote is news to us. Perhaps you could lighten up. Read the message in response to your first greeting. Peace.

  • Well, at least you left my second comment.

    Thank you for that!

Both comments of mine were based on history and the reason that I congratulated you for this song makes me the farthest person from 'hateful'.

The song is beautiful and -unlike you-, I actually think it IS flattering to BOTH ethnic Romanians and Jews (I had it translated in Romanian); it's about joyful conviviality between people.

The sarcastic 'Odessa and Ceausescu' comments were hateful to me. Live and let live is my motto.

  • We have the same motto. Thank-you for your comments.

  • LMAO!!!!! That was an absolutely wonderful job!!! ;)

    Loved it!!! :)

PS: The first time I ever heard this song was from the Limeliters, several years ago.

  • Thanks!

  • oh and are they singing about Romania? the country from Europe?

  • Yes, we are.

  • and you are romanian ? or what xD

  • Our grandparents came from Lithuania, Moldova, and Ukraine, as far as we know. They all spoke Yiddish.

  • Moldova was romanian land (1918-1940).

  • and what country?:)

  • We live in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A.

  • ce limba e?:d

  • It is Yiddish. Amy

  • how cute!

  • BRAVO from ROMANIA!

    Felicitari!!

  • Thank-you. This is just a funny Yiddish song about having a good time when times aren't so good. It is not meant to offend anyone. We have been to Romania. It is a lovely country, with lovely people, and, fortunately, times have changed for the better for a lot of people.
