Excellent counter point and feedback. You make a very good point. Cuba and China, what a question mark? Cuba should reach out to china for help? Will China fund Cuba with cheap goods and cars? Funny, Fidels Stalinist communism is dead today. but they will catch up fast, they are lean and mean down there. USA will one day open up the island because with so man alien mexicans running around here who cares anymore? lol
communism and socialism is not sustainable for china, has too many people to support, look at Cuba today, a loser state, second poorest to haiti, socialism does not work so they had no choice but to open up and follow our example, they think they can control it but once out of the bag you cannot return back to Mao teachings, they will become the new Rome one day, the new global empire and yuan will be the world currency one day.
Cuba is poor because of the high military expenditure it had to sustain whilst backing, supporting and leading colonialist revolutions in Africa against Portugal/Rhodesia/South Africa which were backed by the CIA. I am a political realist and the Chinese Communist party will have to resort to populism to retain the support of its populace. This doesn't include more liberties but instead more welfare, cheaper or even universal healthcare and in reducing polution (clean water e.g).
No. New left intellectual movements are taboo in major Chinese media and many interest groups find the New Left very dangerous to them and add pressure to the government to stop the spreading of the ideas.
I would say socialism is a compromise between capitalism and communism, the only truly reliable and continuous development pattern. I would also say many European countries are now more like socialism though titled capitalism. Socialism, it is what China is heading I think. And under Hu and Wen, health care issue, increasing incomes of peasants, etc are all on-going. I personally can't require more at this time since it is so complex task to manage a huge nation as China.
Whose stupid ? Rapid Economic growth in China in the Mao years is well documented read Minqi Li the Rise of China and the Demise of the Capitalist World Economy - compares growth in Mao years to Deng years
i met a Chinese guy who hated communism, but he wasn't a democrat. He thought china was too soft and should become a dictatorship, loved hitler and anything to do with war
I agree. The person I am talking about was a fellow student and he wasn't popular with other Chinese students. I think most chinese do want peace, but they are also afraid, they don't want to be the nail that sticks out only to be hammered down.
Most people who died in the cultural revolution were the elite anyway. I never thought that it happened in order to prevent market reforms and to keep the socialist dream alive, I always thought Mao was just crazy and longed for his younger days. Also good point about the trickling effect maybe not happening in a country the size of China. Is this true? Or just a much slower, drawn out process?
why doesn't China do something about Mayanmar? They have trade relations, doesn't it bother anyone the humanitarian disaster that is going on there? It makes me wonder when he talks about students liking Mao - is this because they see it as more humanistic or something else?
Shame on you!I am Chinese, too.China is a great country,So many hero in history! So heart-warming story in our life,So many friend in our life, they are all a part of China.Eventthough China has some flaw, but I think we would do better in the future, but never hate the hand which give me the bread.dont say you are a Chinese again, please.
It comes down to the core capitalist belief that wealth can only be created by allowing a wealth gap to appear. By allowing people to accumulate wealth and resources, you create a capitalist class that can create more wealth than the government. In a big country like China with a huge population in poor inland rural areas, wealth creation never could penetrate far enough inside the country before social contradictions mobilized the rural and urban poor against the government.
you white trash killed millions of people in america including innocent native americans and blacks. Blacks still face discrimination in america...they are treated as second class citizen cuz of thier skin color.
stop discriminating againt hispanics...they are targeted and killed in hospitals and police bratulity against hispanics is too excessive...your society is good example of fascism.
The poor in china are prevented from moving to the cities and getting better jobs, they also prevent labor unions. These are not elements of market reforms but some how he attacks a free market that doesn't exist. 2/3 to 3/4 of the population believes that free market reforms were good but some how this proves they weren't?
yea the only difference is the elites paid off the working class. Whilst China can't take that option. BTW by pay off I mean expanded the middle class, and offered more of a liveable salary.
The problem is that there is a working class in the cities that do have good salaries and they feel threatened by people in the country the same way Lou Dobbs does by Mexicans. So they make it illegal for them to get the better jobs. This isn't supported by the rich. They want access to the cheaper workforce which is good for everyone.
I think what We have in the U.S. and Europe is Capitalism + Corporatism and what China (and Russia) have is Corporatism + Communism, but the Communism has Eroded into Capitalism so instead of having wealth go to the working people in the community the wealth goes to the people making the deals.
capitalism in its current from ie: not free market(fascist) IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENT FROM COMMUNISM. capitalism right now is the same an elite few ruling the masses
Chinas system of oligarchy run social capitalism is GREATLY admired by transnational bankers.
In China, as in the USA, the middle class and lower class, often supporting political reform, are deemed the "enemy" or "terrorists" by the ruling elite.
China is heavily supported by western bankers and is often viewed as, quite possibly, the next dominant world power.
Glad to see there is a left in China working on issues and real communism and socialism. I've really enjoyed these interviews with Mr. Minqi Li. I would love to see those involved with the New Left who are Marxist and socialist take over the current Communist Party in China and truly make it back to the communist roots and writings of Karl Marx.
Why not start with Wikipedia to get your first candidate then? It is naive to assume that a person can't be trusted and ask his advice at the same time. For god sakes, hear people out.
I have checked Wikipedia, as I said I'm collecting info from multiple sources. And no, it's not naive to assume people can't be trusted and still ask about something. To only ask that one person, yes that would be pretty dumb. But to ask, oh let's say, a 100 persons and they all say the same. Then it's a lot more believable. And that's what I'm doing, checking different sources. Wikipedia, Google, people. I only trust in 1 source if multiple other sources concur.
No, you're just someone who seems to have a really hard time understanding clear language and a simple concept of research. My imaginary friend would be smart enough to get it right away.
If you ask a question (which you did), don't whine when you're provided an answer that might make you feel stupid.

Fuck you. I'm taking care of, that you will be denied in this room. So come one, bring all you psychopathic attacks on the scapegoats of your ill mind. We will see your delusions and laugh you out. You are the pray in this room. Ha ha ha.

Oooh. So you're one of those people. I see. The last word is the most important thing for you in an argument. While others value ground, facts and discussion you're happy just having the last word. Ah, OK. Tell you what, you can have it. :) Since it's apparently so very important I can let you have it. Maybe it will comfort you a little. I promise not to reply anymore. Feel free to take it and feel like THE WINNAH. :x I feel kind today.
