  • Thanks Sylvia for all the good times ur music got me over some real real lonely times when i was servring on the high seas.RIP Rick James USCG 78-83

  • I bet she had some good "pillow talk" she sounded real sexy

  • Does anyone recall her first visit to "Soul Train" when she performed this song with the neon yellow top AND matching hat? I would love to see that clip again!

  • "So boy just put that stop sign down..." Why doesn't anyone write like this anymore? Absolutely love this.

  • one of the most mellow songs ever written! From a different time;;when music was part of our souls!!

  • WOW.. my grandmother is awesome. Feels great to be carrying on such a great legacy.

    Love and miss you.

    LeA Robinson

  • She's not the godmother of Hip-Hop, but she did help it get off the ground with her Sugarhill label. Hip-Hop is indebted to her, but give credit where credit is due. She is one of the icons of Hip-Hop that no one talks about. Plus I had no idea that she was one & the same person. The Pillow Talk songstress & Sugarhill label creator.

  • @IsaAmonRa She also did "Love Is Strange" way way way back in the day, which I always heard on the oldies station when I was a kid. So she went from 50's duets to 70's soul to the birth of hip hop. Real interesting career!

  • She sure was beautiful! And this was the godmother of rap, too? Hip hop owes her so much! I will miss her. Thanks for posting this rare Soul Train performance of the beautiful and highly intelligent black goddess that was Sylvia Robinson.

  • Sylvia's song Pillow Talk was the one song that all the guys in the neighborhood who grab a girl and get on the skating rink floor and stroll in harmony. That song would make us want to be in love. You can imagine two afros rolling down the floor, with those afro combs stuck in the back of our hair. OMG, how we use to love one another. RIP Sylvia and thanks for the memories.

  • sylvia robinson was the first female record company owner. she started sugerhill records and, produced the first two really import rap tunes, "rapper's delight" by the sugarhill gang, and "the message" by grandmaster flash & the furious five. but more to the point she wrote my all time disco smash, "shame, shame, shame" by shirley and co. jeez, what a great song. danced to that into the groin during all of 1975. the duff should cover it! r.i.p. sylvia, you were cutting edge!

  • RIP Sylvia We Love You!

  • ms.sylvia robinson passed away at 76 her only one hit is pillow talk may she rest in peace .

  • @russellhughes84 She also recorded the R&R classic "Love Is Stranger" with her partner Mickey Baker. She owned Stang & Platinum records. Those labels produced classic soul/r&b by The Moments, Whatnauts, Donny Elbert. And of course Sugar Hill records, which was responsible for Sugar Hill Gang's "Rappers Delight". She also produced Grandmaster Flashes classic "The Message". She should be in the Hall of Fame for her vision and business acumen.

Blessings to the family at this time!

  • Rest in Paradise! I remember your music from my childhood. My parents played your 45's all the time. The song Pillow Talk is fondly remembered as well as your work with The Sugar Hill Gang and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. You brought the sounds of New York across the US airwaves. I was a kid in Virginia having a fit over "rap". Thank you and may God let you share your beautiful voice in Heaven.

  • RIP

  • Sylvia died today, September 29, 2011 at 6:28 a.m.

  • Thumbs Up if You Heard a Piece of "Love Is You" by Chrisette Michelle in This song! :)

  • RIP Mother Sylvia!

  • R.I.P. Sylvia Robisnon.

  • rip

  • She is one of those girls that has a cool stage presence alond with Diana Ross. You don't see that with many girls.Usually people like Miles Davis and Hendrix are the cool cats.

  • super

  • Sylvia "Pillow Talk, Sweet Stuff" and Chakas "Tell Me Something Good" was my 3 sexiest jams back then.

  • DAMN I would try to lick the underside of this woman's pancreas!

  • She also wrote alot of The Moments songs. Brilliant and talented woman. Still very beautiful.

  • Damn she fine smh

  • T o relax I sit down to this record with a bottle of wine gotta love that sweet sexy soul sound. Its missing from music today.

  • Wow, this woman was beautiful! And, I still can't believe that she is the reason for Sugarhill Records, and the Sugarhill Gang and essentially the birth of hip hop and rap. Go ahead, sister! Do that, baby!!! (O:

  • She was ahead of her time bottom line she was a genius

  • One the more erotic voices I've ever heard in music. Yes and she displays sexiness still fully clothed

  • I spent over 30 years trying to find the name of this song and artist who performed this song. It entranced me even as a child and never thought I could never find it again. A personal miracle that I did. Absolutely sensuous and beautiful.

  • BELIEVE OR NOT BUT THIS LADY IS THE GODMOTHER OF HIP HOP.

  • @crouchhill. yes she is! if it was not for her hip hop would not be as big as it is today.

  • @crouchhill A bit of an exaggeration but she yes indeed, she did have a hand in that heinous crime. More significantly, she was behind the wonderful soul label All Platinum - a far more worthy achievement in my opinion.

  • I adore this song :)

  • Great stuff...

  • Such a killer song that transcends all. Can't get enough of it. Influences my songwriting to this day.

  • She invented hip hop. She masterminded both Rappers Delight and The Message.

She literally put The Message together against the opinions of everyone involved, including the percussionist/keyboard player who recorded the original demo + hook and the guy who wrote the lyrics for what was supposed to become a more traditional song.

She wrote and produced all her stuff and really ran the show at her record labels Stang, Platinum, Sugarhill, etc.

  • Isn't she Smokey's cousin?

  • i like to watch SOUL TRAIN in these time....it just looks like everyone is having fun.....

  • This is my theme song. lol. I just found out that she had another song called Pus*y. Cat. The song has a faster beat, yet it's still utterly sexy and smoldering.

Some women can't discern sexiness from sluttiness. Others are clueless about when to be a lady in the streets and when to be a freak in the sheets.....Sylvia knew.

    ~~GTL~~

    The Alpha Woman

  • Sylvia is now 75 years old. Still love this song.

  • @Synecdoche84 I know. Funny how they used to be able to pull that look off back in the day.

  • Holy crap! She's STUNNING!!!!!! Im jealous, she is so pretty, & she has a beautiful voice to match! :D

  • I remember growing up as a littlel boy and hearing this song for the first time, at that point I realized hot sultry woman were, I've never heard woman make the sounds that Sylvia made in this song, I knew at that point that growing up male was going to be a wonderful experience and I couldn't wait!!!!!!!

  • Dyn-o-mite!

  • Thumbs up if Black Dynamite sent you here...

  • What memories! Sexy and classy--not like today.

  • i love this song!!!!

  • Brothers and Sister gettin'-it on! At the S-Train! And my Girl Sylvia bumpin' HOT! You go lady!

  • Sweeeeeet Hottttt Chocolate

  • Very nice.

  • inCREdibly sexy song.

  • and on the SOOOOOOOOOUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TRAIN!

  • Sylvia was the very FIRST lady of Hip Hop.. She started The SUGARHILL record label.. Not to mention, she was one of the sexiest women i had ever seen in my life. I was 4 years old when she sang this songs at my aunts birthday party in Brooklyn New York.

  • @poppalarge68 Yes, but she did so many good things, we can forgive her that I think.

  • remeber this jam .. and it still is i was about 8 years old when this came out.. i love the look i think they called that hat an apple hat

  • @sierria64 Apple Jack hat...actually. Didnt know it came in "those" colors..........lol But thats the 70s.

  • She was 39yrs. old.

  • Sylvia was a beautiful woman.

  • i wanna pillow talk to them big ass titties.

  • i wanna pillow talk to them big ass titties

  • We never heard enough of this chick. She was very talented. She could have been ahead of the pack for a long time...

  • I just found out that she is the Sylvia Robinson behind Sugarhill... I never knew that the woman who stirred my nature with this song was also the woman who 5 years later had me bouncing to Rapper's Delight. Wow - what a woman.

  • Her son was a member of The Sugarhill Gang. Is that right? I remember reading about the connection in 79 when Rappers Delight was in the Hit Parade. :)

  • Cute, cute cute!!! I love it!!

  • Nice song and good memories but that's the worst hat I've ever seen.

  • And I always thought she was saying toward the end: "nice, steady..." But some website has "lie steady..." and another one says it's "nice daddy..." lol

  • I was always surprised to see her (judging from the song, I expected her to be this frail little thing)...

  • YES SYLVIA ROBINSON WAS AHEAD OF HER TIME AND SUPER SEXY IN HER DAY I WONDER THO' SHE'S OLDER IS SHE STILL FINE LIKE FREDA PAYNE IS

  • that song got ME horny when i was 8 or 9 in the 70's.There's just something about it!

  • I love her and the song but that outfit looks like Huggy Bear in drag.

  • I went on the Paramount Studio tour in 1997. We were taken onto one of the sound stages where Soul Train was produced. Interesting!

  • My mother gets mad if I don't play this song at our family functions. All of my kids & nieces & nephews all know this song. My 6 year old says "Nothing can compete with this pillow Taco Bell"....lol

  • I'm a christian comedian,i have a bit and i need to know if i can use a line in this song.Who would i talk to?.

  • @ritacollier What's the bit? (and how Christian are you?) :)

  • @tonydalcon Looking @ you,you really need to hear my bit, i'm a very clean comedian, can you say that about your video? (I don't think so.)

  • @ritacollier I hope not.

  • I love this song it does something to me. I beg and all R&B singers to stay away from this song please dont screw it up.

  • @prettynpinkac WORD ,I second that

  • She sure as hell was sexy!

  • @jimmyhd1969 I'm a christian comedian,i have a bit and i need to know if i can use a line in this song,who would i talk to ?

  • @ritacollier Here's something for you. Sylvia went from "Love is Strange" in 1956 to "Pillow Talk" in 1973. That is some strange talk there.

  • @ritacollier well......you being so christian and all, God maybe ?.

  • @serberious Thank's for reading my question, just to let you know i'm a serious christian comedian,i would never say anything that would shame the LORD or Sylvia,i minister to women alot, just to let you know this bit was given to me by the LORD and, it's him who does things desent and in order,i'm just trying to obey. Thank you.mss.rita.

  • @ritacollier Believe it or not, but that wasn`t meant to be a funny comment. If you really are a " Serious Christian " then why NOT ask your God ?. I mean, don`t you have one to one contact with him ?. If no, then who are who are you supposed to be communicating with ?. just a casual question.

  • I REALY LOVED THIS SONG.I PLAYED THE HELL OUT OF MY 45,AND I WAS IN THE 6TH GRAD.

  • Near the end of the song she says in Spanish "uno monento por quito." Does anybody know what that means?

  • @netray1

The English translation is "just a moment please".

  • @netray1 It's actually "uno momento poquito" (literally "one very small moment"...but "just a moment please" is a good rendering into English)

  • I had the pleasure to have worked for Mrs Rob"Sugarhill Records"1995-1996

Sylvia was still hip as ever, and she still could bring it!She retired on top!!

Ohyeah Mrs Rob"Sylvia"aged gracefully, still a beautiful woman till this day!

Yes she is under rated. She also is a giving person,I once drove her in my van to pick up toys and other gifts for kids in New Jersey and the Bahamas.Slyvia is awesome!Thank you mrs Rob,cause I learned so much from you!Stay Blessed

  • incredibly sexy song...reminds me of "Love to Love You Baby"
