I really didnt like this album very much. Daves rhymeless lyrics get really annoying(44 minutes). Most of the solos were the same(after the first few songs you already knew how the next solo was gonna be). And youre hating on sealed with a kiss because its a love song? That was actually one of the good songs and it was probably the only different song on the album. And comparing Chris with Marty(virtuoso) is like comparing an emotionless robot with GOD.
shit review. all you did was attempt to compare the songs to past megadeth songs, and then, say great solo. plus, you're pretty naive to bash "the hardest part of letting go" for subject matter. love songs have always been a part of megadeth. a la tornado of souls, wake up dead, and last rites/loved to deth. maybe you should grow a nutsack and quit being so insecure.
@gandhisleftnut You're being an idiot by saying that. What makes you think I'm insecure in the first place? Obviously, you're going off of nothing, but it doesn't matter, you can't affect me anyways, you're talking to me through the internet. Anyway, Tornado of Souls is about fear of reprisal, Wake up Dead is about LUST and ADULTERY (not even close to love), and have you honestly read "LR/LTD"? Obviously not. THE SONG IS ABOUT MURDER.
@gandhisleftnut Not really. There's only one line in the song that relates to "revenge", but other than that, hardly, if not no implication of murder. Death is part of the song, but murder? Probably not. Last Rites is different because it's ABOUT murder, not just happens to be BARELY related to murder at all. The Hardest Part of Letting Go, regardless of it's subject matter, still has awful lyrics, especially compared to LR/LTD.
@Bassbait i agree that early megadeth is far better lyrically and musically. but you come off as an immature kid when you can't stomach the metaphysical concept of love. plus this review is still horrid.
@gandhisleftnut When I can't stomach the metaphysical concept of love? I can, but Megadeth takes it too far. Sorry, there's a certain boundary that stops Thrash Metal bands from becoming Power Ballad Glam Bands, and Megadeth has crossed it multiple times, starting with Youthanasia (which is honestly the last Megadeth album I could stand to listen to). It's just like Metallica singing about pillows and sleeping. It's sell-out crap, and I don't buy it. I'd rather hear something like Holy Wars.
@Bassbait actually it is about murder. the song was written around poe's the cask of amonillado (or however u speel it) and to make a short story even shorter. guys is chained up by his friend after he (the friend who is in chains) insults him down underground where wine cellars used to be cept. and and when he comes to, he is being sealed in brick by brick. left to die. yes, tornado of souls is a love song. dave has said so himself. last rites/loved to deth is a love song no matter how twisted
@Bassbait sorry to disappoint you but last rites/loved to deth is about a boy loving somebody AND murder if you look at what Dave says in the 2002 remaster of KIMB..ABIG he says that the basic story is boy loves girl girl doesn't love boy boy murders girl so no-one else can have her
@Bassbait Okay how about this, when you can give me a real reason why the lyrics are bad get back to me and please feel free to include some examples of songs with good lyrics.
@Bassbait It fits perfect even though it contradicts because it gives the listener a little bit of variety. Honestly, what or song would open so well for Headcrusher? Also, to say the song is very lyrically based is like saying Eruption is based largely on guitar, all songs are that way. That whole statement is like saying Eruption is bad because the guitar tone doesn't have enough bass, it just doesn't make sense. That why its a ballad.
@EpicUberMan1000 Actually, no. Criticizing the lyrics when the song is based on lyrics is like criticizing the guitar part of an all guitar part song. The lyrics of the song are bad, and thus, the song isn't what I like. If Eruption was a terrible guitar part, I would criticize it for being so, just as I criticized the Megadeth song because of it's inability to be true to Megadeth's nature, especially with their best albums.
I hate to be a dick but you bashing "The Hardest Part of Letting Go...Sealed With a Kiss" because of lyrical subject is just ignorant and shows the wide variety you must have in the music you listen to.
@EpicUberMan1000 I hate to disagree, but there are two reasons why you are wrong. The first is because the song is very lyrically based, and they contradict the album, Megadeth's roots as a band, and metal as a genre. It's similar to Metallica singing about pillows: JUST DON'T DO THAT. The second reason why is because this is a "preview review", giving first impressions on each song, and my first impression was "a crappy love song? Why? Can't they stick to something less lame?"
...Sealed with a kiss is a great song and megadeth always has at least one song on every album similar to it, straying away from politics and war and focusing on something thats part of everyones life "love" and losing people that are close.
@negekke My main point about Headcrusher is that it was the big "hit" from the album, and it wasn't nearly as good as some of the other stuff on the album.
Yeah, true, that, about Poland. But his work on Peace Sells justifies all of the crap he's done.
Btw, what's with your enemity with love songs on the CD ? Hardest Part was a pretty good song actually. The song's my 3rd favorite from the CD after 1320 and How the Story Ends
Hey, It's megadeth, not metallica. I'm sorry, but the video is cut short. I compared Megadeth to Metallica in the sense that they have both lost their touch, although Megadeth not nearly as much. It beats the crap out of Death Magnetic, but if he wants to be true thrash, dump the love songs and speak political. And for that matter, he needs to focus on speed, because that's what made Rust in Peace and Peace Sells so good. Political, and fast. This stuff is watered down in comparison.
Hey, Megadeth is possibly the greatest thrash band. I've seen them live twice (hope to see them play their Rust in Peace anniversary tour). Dave Mustaine is a great writer and writes riffs I can't achieve myself. Dave Mustaine is to Thrash metal as Chuck Schuldiner of Death is to Death Metal. Chuck is like Dave except more pissed off (if that's even possible). If you like Dave's guitar work, DEFINITELY look into Chuck's. Start with the solo to "Trapped in a Corner" or "Jealousy".
Screaming isn't gay. Either way, that album is seriously top 3 metal albums ever released, and if you don't like the rest of their 7 albums (they will NOT make more albums, their singer died), then fine, because Symbolic is good on it's own.
You just seem biased. As for "screaming", they don't quite scream on "Symbolic", the album. It's raspy vocals, which you can't say you don't like if you like Metallica. Still, it's NOT ALWAYS about the vocals. It's about the bands. You shouldn't take it as "If they can sing, they are good, if they can't, they are bad." That's just biased. Think not about how catchy the song is but how much effort it took to write and play them.
Actually, old school thrash is very similar. If you want music that stands out, Death is DEFINITELY the band to look for. If you listen to "Spirit Crusher", "Lack of Comprehension", "Within the Mind", and "The Philosopher", you will hear that Death truly is a stand out band. If you are saying Death metal isn't good, reconsider, because vocals are NEVER everything. Consider guitars, bass, drums, skill, writing abilities, lyrical subjects, and you will see what I mean. CONSIDER!
Metallica did the worst thing metal could possibly do. Metal was set back 50 years by Metallica.
As for death, they never influenced vocal styles. They increased the standard of music for speed, technicality, writing ability, and much more. Their screaming style is great and started with Death metal vocals and ranged to pissed off, powerful vocals that Metallica has nothing on. His vocals are hard to pull off, and you CAN'T do them, so please reconsider your biases before discounting Death.
but they are seriously up there for Metal bands that you have to listen to before you die. They invented Death Metal and did a lot for the genre, as well as metal in general. They saved the 90's from being a metal apocalypse, and metal is in it's current shape because of them. The list of essential metal bands are:
Ya, but Death is just very versatile. Unlike Megadeth and Metallica, Death has had NO bad albums. From Scream Bloody Gore to The Sound of Perseverance, it's been a 7 albums journey with each song as good as the next. If you want more suggestions, "Scavenger of Human Sorrow" and "Spirit Crusher" are both incredible tracks that show Chuck's writing abilities. "Voice of the Soul" is an instrumental that makes "Orion" look bad.
Master of Puppets is an over-rated album that does nothing but completely rip off the ideas presented in Ride the Lightning. If you don't like death, listen to "Crystal Mountain" and "Zero Tolerance". Those 2 songs beat anything Metallica or Megadeth have put out. The singer and lead guitarist of Death, Chuck Schuldiner, died of cancer, and he deserves respect for his work, so please consider actually giving them a good listen.
Well I disagree. It's lost the feel of Rust in Peace, and just makes me wish I were listening to old Megadeth. As for the love song, if you want a well written song, look at "A Moment of Clarity". Those are some nice lyrics. As for Megadeth, Dave was always a political dude and his music was better that way.
"NO LOVE SONGS!!!", What the hell?, so you don't like "A Tout Le Monde"? mate thats lame. it's a good record and i hope Broderick finds a good band or has a nice career creating one of his own after Megadeth ends, following the realease of the next (last) Megadeth album
A tout le monde is good but it's more centered around death and morbid ideas. I still don't like the lyrics but the musicianship makes up for it. This song just isn't as good music-wise.
see i would would say you were right on the endgame review but all you focused on was fast parts in each song. nothing on the cover art, or vocals just how the drum fills were awesome and how chris is the best ever.
Well, I don't really use the Cover art to define an album. The vocals I talked about, and the vocals themselves are kind of bland for his age. He needs more aggression in his voice. I didn't really focus on the drum fills, I just focused on the album by how it is overall. Broderick is awesome and really makes the album, and the aggression is good, but the rest is somewhat forgettable.
ya in the lyrics they use same old alphabets in words, like a b c d e, and so on. yap! again the chords are there and notes are played in guitar.. same things.. most amazingly drummer still plays drum, dave stills sings with his own voice and what else.. great review man.. u suck
Well, true, BUT, I think Dave Mustaine must be using his ideas for the solos as the same that Broderick does. Broderick isn't always soloing, but he's why the solo's sound so good.
i'll buy it still. this album is kicking some ass. in my opinion the album would be flawless with griityier distortion and his old killing is my bussiness - peace sells vocals. hey a thrasher can still dream.
pretty good. Going to be playing a concert soon... Only problems are that we have like 2 songs, we are super sloppy, and can't afford decent equipment.
i was just messin with ya dude, i kinda agree on the hardest part of letting go, but its actually grown on me, but the lyrics are embarassingly bad in some parts. btw loved to deths subject matter is fuckin epic boy meets girl boy loves girl girl doesnt loe boy boy kills girl!!!
i love this cd all the songs rock my favs are 44 minutes end game right to go insnae and right of letting go that song reminds me of fade to black this cd is a 10 out 10 for me
I got my pre-order copy of 'Endgame' on Sept.12 and its supposed to come out on Sept.15th.
I agree with most of your reviews. I think the song that has the potential to become #1 is 'how the story goes' becoz it sounds very radio friendly and they should make a vid for it.
In the song 'the right to go insane' , in the last part, I wonder why they soloed over the already great sounding riff (the riff that everyone thought was from 1320 before anything was released).they sh'ved just kept the riff
Not a bad video. I agree with a lot of points except one. I really liked 'Hardest part of letting go.' I think that is the best song on the disc. I think having 1 ballad on a metal album is ok. But I like 1320 a lot, too. That's my favorite 'fast' song. And my favorite mid tempo song is 'This is how the story ends.' You're right though, the solos really enchance the album big time. The only song I don't particularly care for is 'This day we fight.' Good solos in it, but otherwise dull.
44 minutes a ballad? Nope, wrong again. Oh, and one more thing... I could have sworn you said you didn't like 'Hardest Part of Letting Go' beacause it was a 'LOVE SONG' and not because it's a 'ballad.' So which is it? Are you discombobulated?
Well, It could very well be both, because a lot of love songs are ballads. But I'm going with love song because it sticks out the most as one. If you listen to 44 minutes, it IS a ballad. A ballad is a poem that plays out like a story, and if you listen closely or read the lyrics, it does.
Si no, serían rock duro. Este álbum es un buen álbum, y uno sus mejores, pero comparando al moho en paz, no se coloca.
dude the album is great, every song every moment, hardest part of letting go is a great song, and why not a love song? u have a cold heart or sumthin? endgame is best of 2009
Great album, but that song just isn't megadeth and shouldn't be. It's a good song, but it didn't need to be such a stupid subject. Metal is about aggresion, not love. Thrash metal is about being extreme, not about domestication. It is a great album, but out of the releases so far, as well as future releases, it still does have competition.
yes but dave never said this is a thrash album, he said there is thrash elements on it, but not every song, its just a great metal album with everything
I would agree, BUT, Dave also said that he wanted to go back to thrash and that he would go back to thrash. And this is after he said that, so the song just isn't nessecary and doesn't live up to in my darkest hour or A tout le monde or trust or even my last words.
4. laugh wildly when it blows your mind over and over. This album is was so much to take in and enjoy at work on shitty headphones. Nah this album needed a proper listen under optimal conditions. Its really growing on me. To top it all these guys are even better live! Dont miss them before you die. Buy the album. Dave deserves #1!
Actually, the video got cut off, I actually had a bit more to say. I've seen them live twice, and almost saw them a third time with judas priest, who I've already seen live.
@MDethfan Seen them twice. It's not like I don't like them. However, I don't think that
drugs or alcohol really benefit an experience. I prefer to listen to bands for the everything they do and don't, and judge accordingly. As for this new album, it DOES have good guitar work, but DOES NOT compare to the old material.
I really didnt like this album very much. Daves rhymeless lyrics get really annoying(44 minutes). Ya, but it doesn't compete with Zombie Ritual, which is in no way related to this conversation.

Very excited about this album. Long time fan of both Megadeth AND Alex Jones. Long time hater of the NWO.

You should never post opinions based on your first vibe, it make's you look real stupid.

and very confused lol

I did it based on my first vibe for many reasons
1.That's just what I thought AT FIRST
2.I only JUST finished listening to the album when I did it.
3.I reviewed it and gave my first vibe.
4.If you think I look stupid, find a different review for it! Oh, and good luck with that.

The only song I don't particularly care for is 'This day we fight.' Good solos in it, but otherwise dull.
darkstonecastle 2 years ago
It's actually the second ballad. 44 minutes is the first ballad, and that's why I don't like The hardest part of letting go.
Bassbait 2 years ago
44 minutes a ballad? Nope, wrong again. Oh, and one more thing... I could have sworn you said you didn't like 'Hardest Part of Letting Go' beacause it was a 'LOVE SONG' and not because it's a 'ballad.' So which is it? Are you discombobulated?
darkstonecastle 2 years ago
Well, It could very well be both, because a lot of love songs are ballads. But I'm going with love song because it sticks out the most as one. If you listen to 44 minutes, it IS a ballad. A ballad is a poem that plays out like a story, and if you listen closely or read the lyrics, it does.

shyheim007 2 years ago
Sí, son definitivamente un gran grupo, lejos mejor que metallica, y Mustaine es asombroso. Pero Broderick, el nuevo guitarrista, está sosteniendo la venda como metal del movimiento de piernas.

Bassbait 2 years ago
yes but dave never said this is a thrash album, he said there is thrash elements on it, but not every song, its just a great metal album with everything
Megadethpwnz 2 years ago
I would agree, BUT, Dave also said that he wanted to go back to thrash and that he would go back to thrash. And this is after he said that, so the song just isn't nessecary and doesn't live up to in my darkest hour or A tout le monde or trust or even my last words.

1. drink some beers
2. burn one
3. sit back with your friends, throw in Endgame
4. laugh wildly when it blows your mind over and over.

Bassbait 2 years ago
@MDethfan Seen them twice. It's not like I don't like them. However, I don't think that
drugs or alcohol really benefit an experience. I prefer to listen to bands for the everything they do and don't, and judge accordingly. As for this new album, it DOES have good guitar work, but DOES NOT compare to the old material.
