  • I grew up in Danville from the late 50's/60's...graduated DHS in '72.... It saddens me so very much to see how run down the city has become. I remember downtown, up 'n down Vermilion street to Main and all the stores. I also remember three big theaters on Vermilion (2 downtown). What a shame they're gone...along with most of the rest of the History of Danville.

  • Burn that fucker down

  • They had a paranormal investigation in 2009 or 2010 i can't remember.

  • I made a lot of money in that town and got the fuck out.

  • I wish I had a nickel for every movie I saw at The Fisher. I miss the old days in Danville, Illinois. Sigh.

  • I really hate how Danville seems to be avoiding anything that involves culture. We have places of Art yet people rarely look into them, we have art on walls in the Danville area and people just walk by them...it is sad, truly.

  • i agree with you treya1989

  • I wonder if Dick Van Dyke and his brother Jerry hung out there as kids?

  • I No this is a older video, But do you think we could start something in Danville to have a project to restore the fisher theatre? Do you think it would be worth it, Im a young guy but i would love to go inside that place, Let me no if you would be up for it, TY

  • im not that old now and i never seen the theater light up or look that nice at all. i wish it always looked like. it alone would make danveille a better place. fucking chicago drug dealers fucked up danville

  • You can blame poverty or you can stand up and do something about it. Look to Janesville Wisconsin as an example. The downtown area attracted very little business and offered less culture than Danville UNTIL the local armory was turned into a dinner theatre. In the heart of the downtown area was now a cultural center piece that draws people from miles around.

  • Now that the people are coming to Janesville, talks are in motion to revive the historic hotel as well along with adding a river walk, new upscale eateries, etc... It starts with one theatre. Wake up before it's too late!

  • Side note... Now that more business is moving into Janesville's downtown, there is more police presence and safety has come to the forefront. Revitalization will force out the bad presence.

  • Lol i live in Danville to

  • you have to convince the people of Danville that it would enrich their lives. It is not a community that craves culture to begin with. Only a small minority see the benefit--but--those working on it need to start searching out federal and private grants rather than depending on local money to do this. It's way too big of a project for just Danville money and the building can't wait much longer to be fixed.

  • so do i lol

  • The Fischer truly is an amazing place to be. i have done 3 shows there all trying to raise money to help in the renovations, but people here just dont seem to realize the wonderful impact the theater would have in our town. this was a beautiful video, i know i very much appreciated it!

  • thats so cool ive never seen what it looked like before it needs to b restored

  • I remember going to the Fischer theater when I was little to watch movies. It just seems that downtown Danville is dying and thats sad.

  • Sad!

Karesotes also bought old theaters in my home town. They then allowed then to run down. After that they opened a super-plex in the middle of nowhere. Later the old theaters were sold for other uses. From people who have worked Karesotes, I hear they are greedy dirt bags. They made Bloomington a worse place to live. I wish local governments would think, before they allow the loss of beautiful historical landmarks that people love.

  • Part 3: By my understanding when they first started this project, they hired an outfit from Chicago to tear down the adjoining Palace Theater, a barrier wall was also removed, thus making it unsafe; although they continued the restoration of the building. Now, I see a firm from Ga. is going to evaluate it. What happened to Do It In Danville? How about a local outfit that cares? Thanks for letting me vent.

  • Part 2:This is the same preservation that has done all the recent work on Pine and Payne St. What's to become of these houses? My understanding is that "they" own them. Looked at 1 they owned $450mo. They also sell some. Guess these potential Section 8 dwellings are more important than the Fischer.

  • Part 1:Thank you so much for your beautiful film preserving what will unfortunately be long gone memories. This is a statement made by the preservation Foundation board vice president Thom Pollock: ""It is often the very first step ... If the use of the building can't be sustained by the market place, it needs to be a parking lot I guess," he said. This only a week after in an interview he stated home much he loved the place.

  • I sure hope Danville and its Government gets behind this theater and save it. In small towns I have traveled through, once the theater goes, the town's life/heart and soul dies and it becomes a ghost town.

  • Your work is beautiful...I hope the efforts to preserve the building and keep it as part of our land's historic treasures pay off. Thank you for doing your share, by bringing awareness of the situation and preserving these treasures,at least, in our memories, through your great photographs.

  • i work there =D

  • Really? Please, tell me more about it. How is it? Does people appreciate it? How are the plans to renovate it?

  • nice work.. i really enjoyed it

  • There are immediate financial needs for ongoing operating and maintenance costs to be met as work continues toward the creation of a new focus on economic development fueled by arts programming in Vermilion County.
