@MrRidisc theres a $150 update on the Native Instruments website which lets you plug in turntables so you can use it as a mixer... the update just came out though and this video is from a couple months ago

by the way, you can set channel C and D to 'audio thru mode' in Traktor which will basically turn channel C and D into mixer channels when things are plugged in.

I asked Native Instruments if they could send me a Kontrol S4 to test, because I wanted to see if I could use it for a Wedding.. My hang up is that Channel D has a switch for Traktor's 4th Deck/Microphone/aux input. It means if I want to use the mic, I have to reach behind the controller. I wanted to see if I could still live with it. But NI didn't answer my request and so they lost 900 Euro. I also sent them another message, which was ignored.

So is this NI getting arrogant now?

@DJNardini - Just carry on using Turntables and a mixer then, No hardship.

Others like the idea of doing a gig with a controller and a laptop. It's light, compact and you can carry far more songs with you and you can totally rip a song apart with a controller. Which is something you can't do with vinyl. Nothing against any type of music format. As long as the crowd are happy that's all that counts.

@DJNardini Not been a fan of computer mixing either. However, no matter how much we moan, it will not go away. It is the dancefloor that determine a dj's quality, not other dj's (for better or worse) and since these things make mixing easier, and since the floor really doesn't seem to care (or can't tell the difference) these badboys are here to stay, unfortunately.

@fabbsl The S4 has built-In Soundcard,also you can plug in two TT or CDJ´s. In the near Future, they bring out an update, to get Timecode Control.

On the other side, they will release an update (i think, you have to pay for it) for the Traktor Scratch Pro Series...so you have the Scratch Pro Software and also Sample Decks as on the S4 Software

Hi j ive seen a lot of videos in which DJ's are still using their vinyl turntables but instead of changing the vinyl they are just selecting a song on their laptop. im really interested in being able to do this as it would save a lot of carrying around boxes of vinyl. what would you recommend i buy so i could do this? im only 16 so my budget is pretty tight so i cant afford top notch pro software but any advice would be much appreciated. @keondub Unfortunately most solutions still cost quite a bit. I purchased Serato for $800, that includes the time coded vinyl/cd's, and the Rane hardware. I don't know about Traktor, but you're still looking at spending a few hundred.

But seriously - I really look forward to see how it goes in practice. Controllers are the future, and this piece of equipment is big step forward. I only hope, tracktor 4 has not too big hardware requirements, and internal sound card is not piece of poop like for example in Reeloop DJ's controllers.

VCI-100 is knight, this S4 could be the new kind among the controllers.
