This is the first time I've heard this track fully, i.e. with end effect, and it sounds even better than it did thirty years ago. Really sharp melodic guitar, good bass - not too overpowering, and minor keyboard wizardy. Should have done better than no.22 in the charts. 1981 saw some really original stuff in the charts and this single illustrates it perfectly.
I knew a bloke Vic Nap from Woolwich. This song reminds me of Vic. 2 gangs composped of 14. It could have been a big fight. I walked up to Vic, who was the leader of his gang. Pat Garaty was our leader. I said, Wot you drinking." Instead of putting the bottle over my head, he said, "'ave a taste mate. Mackinsons." I called over the chaps and the lot for us got on. 28. We owned the area. Thanks Vic.
@18andreab Ahh, just had a thought. He is probably making plans for Nigel....or possibly with Nigel? HA HA HA! Seriously though, this track is great. Love it.
@vikpaw1 Nice pick. I probably never would've thought to use this as a ringtone, but it's perfect for one. I need to start listening to music as prospective ringtone material. :P
Oi ! Oi ! DEPARTMENT S play The Wilmington Arms in London TONIGHT !!! Saturday 29th May - 69 Rosebery Ave, EC1R 4RL. 4 original members with original keyboard payer Eddie Roxy taking on the vocals... very well apparently ! on stage about 10pm

this reminds me of my first date with a girl , which was a bit of a disaster and left me feeling humilated and down
since then i've not been able to tell if the song is depressing or if i find it depressing cos of what it reminds me of
same with einstein a go go
