Sheriff J.W. Pepper: There's that son of a bitch. I got him.
[to Bond]
Sheriff J.W. Pepper: What are you? Some kinda doomsday machine boy? Well WE got a cage strong enough to hold an animal like you here!
Felix Leiter: Captain, would you enlighten the Sheriff please?
State Trooper: Yessir. J.W., let me have a word with ya. J.W., now this fellow's from London England. He's a Englishman workin' in cooperation with our boys, a sorta... secret agent.
Sheriff J.W. Pepper: You picked the WRONG parish to haul ass through BOY! NOBODY cuts and runs on Sheriff JW PEPPER! And it's him who's speakin' by the by.
Sheriff J.W. Pepper: [on Radio] Now you listen to me, trooper boy! We got a swamp full of Black Russians drivin' boats to beat the band down here.
Well guys, just so ya know, this week marked Roger Moore's 83rd Birthday and this was Moore's 1st Film as 007 and this was Yaphet Kotto 20 years before he found fame w/NBC's Homicide: Life on the Streets and Introducing Jane Seymour 20 years before she found fame playing the title role to CBS' Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and also, 1973 also saw Match Game return to TV and it was the version we know and love and 1973 also marked the end of Bonanza after 14 years on NBC and Soul Train had TSOP
Roger Moore was a bit like Pierce Brosnan - he had one or two good outings, and because he was never much of a believable tough guy, when he got old, it just got ridiculous. At least Brosnan had Goldeneye. With those 2 I was always waiting for the Bond girl to show up and bail him out. With Dalton, not so much panache, but more like the Fleming books. Moore and Brosnan were comic book heroes come to life.
Not one of my favorite Bonds but it's not one of the worst either. With a few minor changes, it could have been a very strong film; a better intro that includes Bond, dropping the Kananga/Mr. Big masquerade (pointless), less Sherrif Pepper, adding Leiter's shark attack and injuries from the book, a shorter boat chase and a different death for Kananga.
This is one of my favorite Bond film beside Goldfinger, Thunderball, On her majesty's secret service, The spy who loved me, A view to a kill and Licence to kill.
for the audience yes, but I consider Dalton's both Bond's way better than ANY of the 4 Brosnan made. Sadly Dalton's Bond was some 15 years ahead of time.
Thank God for the reboot. Should have been made long ago.

yeah, and that's why the producers made him do 7 movies over 12 years. FYI most of his movies made good box office so there was something that worked.
If not Moore's lighter version of Bond the genre would never have survived into today.
Actually he was 44, since it was shot in 1972. Not to mention Moore looks like he is in his mid 30's and not 44 at all. Timothy Dalton was TOO YOUNG and declined On her majesty's secret service being only 21 at the time.
I agree Dalton should have made A view to a kill, and he was better than Brosnan too.
Remember that back in the 70's and 80's Bond was supposedly the same character we had seen in Dr.No.
Diferences between the book and the movie LiveAndLetDie
Book: Solitaire was black; the villain was Mr Big, a gold trafficker who spies to SMERSH. Saint Monique didn't exist.
Movie: Solitaire is white; the villain was Dr Kanaga, a drug trafficker disguised in a political; Mr Big was a voodo priest not the same person that Kanaga.
So, why anybody said that the movie was bullshit 'cause wasn't acurated to the book?
Has anybody read the book on this movie? I am planning to watch this on Bluray (I have already ordered it) and I'm curious if the movie is close to the book....
This is the best Moore Bond movie by far. Shame it wasn't shot in 70mm like the previous big Bonds. Always thought Moore was better in this playing it deadpan and mean... the boat chase is the stuff of legend along with the music which is practically a Beatles production. An all around classy affair.
Live and Let Die is definitely one of the best Bond movies. Roger Moore is still my favorite Agent 007. Jane Seymour was great and very beautiful as Solitaire. Yaphet Kotto (Parker from Alien), Julius Harris and Gloria Hendry were great as well.
The main theme performed by Paul McCartney and Wings was good too.
Live and Let die is a classic Bond for sure. The boat chase in this is legendary. Kotto is a great villain who frequently gets overlooked. I have never had a problem with Moore as Bond i think he did a terrific job. This has possibly the best score of any Bond.
You probably know that Live and let die got an Oscar nomination for best original song. Should have won it too. Roger Moore was a good injection into the Bond series. In the 70's they realized the 60's Bond was totally out of the time and thus made the series more enteratining and humorous. This worked because most Moore Bond movies made a lot of money and a whole generation of movie goers loved him. Today he gets a lot of underserved flak.
I mean, the Speed Boat Chase Scenes were just Priceless.
and who would've thought that Jane Seymour would become famous for being a Bond Girl would end up 20 years later on the small screen playing the role of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and also, the song Live and Let Die would end up being remade by Guns 'N' Roses and Yaphet Kotto would end up starring in Homicide Life on the Streets and Jeffrey Holder would end up doing 7-Up Commercials, God Bless'em all. Well Done.
