You should also get a USB drive for your keyring and on it store important info like all your phone numbers, pictures of you household goods with close ups of serial numbers and scanned copies of all important documents such as birth cert, passport and so on as well as a scanned copy of your household insurance.
But for the love of god don't lose it with all that personal info on it, or encrypt it if you are able.
Don't get me wrong, you never know what scary things might happen at home. The Emergency kit is a great idea.
But, I think the evacuation back-pack idea is for the strictly paranoid. Perhaps because of my location the need for evacuation for any reason (from what I've observed) is slim, my opinion is biased. I mean, most of the articles mentioned you could find in any house.
