  • Hi Lee,

This is really helpful, thanks so much for putting it up. I'm just starting out in Australia and my main questions is, what is the best size to go for with a portfolio book?

    Thanks again :)

  • @ILUVARREONIA

I would reccomend you do alot of networking. To start you can begin assisting Artist in your area, Start building a book with professional photographers.

  • if your still in school and going into college for makeup does it need to be this professional ?

  • @Emmaxx1995

Over Time Your work will progress. Pro makeup artist Normally have 11x14 books, but to start you can get a 9x12 so prints wont cost you more. You can start building a before and after book 8x10 and as you become more experienced in a specific look your comfortable in, contact a professional photographer to do a shoot then tranfer that print onto your pro 9x12 or 11x14 book. Professional images should be lightly retouched. Goodluck :)

  • I know you posted this video months ago but I just came across it today and wanted to say how helpful I found it. I am a new makeup artist... I have my first few tearsheets to add to my portfolio now :-)

I was wondering if you could give recommendations of where I could get a portfolio like that? The physical book I mean :-)

Thank you for your help, yourwork is stunning.

    Xx

  • Your video provided to me excellent information. Thank you so much for sharing your portfolio.

  • Hi Lee,

Do you need to have professional photos on your portfolio? I am really starting out and don't have any experience working in a print or fashion.

I want to do make up for actor's headshots. Do you think fashion and editorial photos are necessary, since the competition is so high?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Lee,

Thanks so much for the information!

  • i am in the process of starting my port! this was VERY helpful! what is your feedback on plexiglass portfolios???

  • Thank you Lee for all this information. I am starting as a mua in Argentina (I trainned with Sam Chapman) and I get my photos collaborating with photographers and models. It takes time but the pictures are definitely better and look professional which is key.

  • The print work you did..how did you get the pictures? did you have to get a copy of the magazine and take the picture out, or did the photographer give you a fresh printed copy?

  • Hi,

I use tear sheets. This means when the magazine comes out I use the pictures that i did the make up on . Providing the quality and layout is good this is by far the best thing to do as printed, magazine work has a prestige association. Hope that helps!

  • how do you get exelant quality photos

  • Set your camera to a high quality picture setting. This will give the sharpest reproduction.

make sure the light you take your picturesin is sufficent too. Assuming you are taking thr pictures! Proffessional printers can develop picyures large enough for a portfolio or try getting good quality laser copies. Good luck!
