No. Nickelback has a record deal but they're one of the worst things to happen to music. Period. You also cannot relate a Rock band to a Pop "artist". Pop is written to be listened to by the majority, nothing else. Lady Gaga is a household name, but Vampire Weekend isn't. They have a record deal too.

He grew up with his divorced mother and the strokes earned their record deal through hard work by being noticed in live jigs.
