According to the cover notes on the album This Was, "A Song for Jeffery --he is one of us but doesn't really play anything--makes bombs and things." It was not till later that he joined the band as a musician, he is also credited with making the Claghorn.

What I'd really like to know is who exactly (or inexactly) who "Jeffrey" was. This is one of several Tull songs with that name in the title.

mrfantastic, jeffrey is jeffrey hammond, a friend of ian anderson, and bassist of Jethro Tull for 4 years or so.

@Aqualung1989 Jeffery and Ian were schoolmates. Ian felt Jeffery was an underachiever. Ian would screw with him unmercifully.

Wouldn't read anything into it - just for fun & to be different I guess ... like for a while back in the 80's, people stopped saying "acid" & said "a-seed". Or "style" & "styleee". You could call it pretentious but who really cares!
