  • There's some really rude and ignorant people on here dude. A real drummer knows what you're doing is right. Well played.

  • Thanks, I appreciate it :-)

    Take care

  • The gray areas freak people out, I love it!

  • Muy Buena demostración! el Dirty Shuffle, Gracias!!!

  • Thank you :-)

    Cheers from Canada

  • it isn't shuffled very much, is it meant to be like that?

  • It's meant to explore the grey areas between straight notes and shuffled notes, everything in between, which is used in many styles including latin music, second line drumming etc...

  • @Jungleritter I see, thanks for that =p

  • WOW, IM BLOWN AWAY HOLY CRAP

  • Learn to lift your stick from the snare drum. Also the bassdrum, remove the pedal from the skin. It makes the sound better :)

  • You change your timing between fast and slow. You have the feeling of it slow but at real time, you loose it. What part of this is hard for you to understand? Watch your vids in slow motion and then speed them up and you will see a numerical difference in your notes versus time.

  • Sorry, but I don't get what you are trying to say. Is this a question about the exercise or is this a reply to one of the comments on this video?

  • @Jungleritter WTF? you must have mental issues. the point is he's showing a gradual cahnge between a shuffled beat and a straight beat, how is it that hard to understand?

  • @edgeyzfr1350 : he is not loosing anything.. you are wrong.. he changes the hi-hat pattern from straight 16s to shuffle and back again to 16s.. his bass and snare are always on the count.. :)

good work Jungleritter... but is it really such a thing that you make a video of it ??

  • @asimsidd first of all i agree that edgeyzfr is a complete idiot but, the idea is demonstrating fading gradually from strait to shuffle. he doesn't do this as smooth as some drummers but it is something that is very difficult to do smoothly and evenly over a long gradual period.

  • @flamingbalsac1 : its a good demonstration.. but not really worth 37000+ views.. lol !! check out a video I recently posted, Dennis Chambers.. he used Metric Modulation, Polyrhythms, Phase Shifting, etc all in one demonstration.. its a 5/4 piece.. check it out !!

  • @edgeyzfr1350 he isn't changing speed, he is changing from straight 16th to a 16th note shuffle, the tempo is constant throughout.

  • @RajDrummer1 Sorry, he's playing 8th notes not 16th's

  • its definitely 16th notes mate.

  • @drumsticknow count with it. one e and uh, two e and uh, three e and uh, four e and uh. Its like 5th grade band class man =p He's playing 8th notes in cut time though!

  • @edgeyzfr1350 HAHAAHA cant tell if trolling or just very newbie at drums !!!!

  • @edgeyzfr1350 .... You are missing the point of what he is doing . What you see as losing the time is really him going in between a shuffle and a straight 8th feel ... for examples of this sort of feel you can check out old 50`s style rock and roll beats ... a lot of them are half shuffled / half straight ....more contemporary examples ... Aaron Spears behind the Chops video .. Stanton Moore as well

  • hah cool, i do that as an excersise myself aswell. you are transitioning very very smoothly though. :)

  • Really nice work !

  • Is that John Riley counting?

  • Wow, you got keen ears man!! :-) That's indeed John!

    Cheers

  • What kind of hi-hat is? Zildjian K Custom 13"?

  • It's a regular Zildijan K 13", not the Custom.

    Cheers

  • extreme independence

  • @petshopgoy he keep tempo better than you on this..

  • yah i cant believe you even bothered to slow it down from the start, if a drumming student cant "hear" this full speed then they should persue another instrument. My 5 year old can play this. ( And he isnt very good yet, he didnt like this vid either. ) In fact he asked me "Papa? Can I teach him to play his drums?"

  • @edgeyzfr1350 this guy has other videos that your 5 year old definitely cannot play.

  • @edgeyzfr1350 wtf are you trying to say? this is a great video.

  • yah i cant believe you even bothered to slow it down from the start, if a drumming student cant "hear" this full speed then they should persue another instrument.

  • one, two, three, four

  • cool set.

  • wtf are u doing? :P

  • Yeah, I know, it's a weird exercise :-) I gradually change the note value so the straight rhythm slowly morphs into a shuffle with all those nuances in between you wouldn't even be able to write in drum notation. This is used in many styles, especially latin, new orleans and hiphop as well.

    Cheers

• Hey!

Like normal, but interesting (like Illusion :) ). Now I use while playing the drums. Sounds interesting.

    Yours!

    congrats!

  • Thanx a lot !! :-))

  • god man i wish i had all that equipment .

  • nice demo

  • Shuffle? Uncle John Turner can shuffle!

  • thats got a nice swing to it man.

the way you are playing seems pretty awkward

  • @samthednbman123 Awkward? You're referring to 1:20 onward? That's open-handed drumming for ya. :)

  • @samthednbman123 Doesn't seem awkward at all.

  • hablas español?

  • No Espanol :-) I speak german and english

    Cheers

  • Whats the point of not muffeling the snare when he switches his left and to the hi hat and his right to the snare?

  • Comment removed

  • Haha, you didn´t even understand the idea of this exercise...Next time think twice and watch twice before leaving such a dumb comment :-)

  • It`s a good exercise.. Just listen to the metronome and you will know what I am talking about.

As drummers our main goal is to have a steady time

  • This is an ok example of this feel .. if anyone really wants to see it done in a musical setting then check out NRBQ or steve jordan with keith richards .... or any of those old rock n roll records ..elvis , chuck berry , etc .... those drummers were jazz drummers , their groove was literally 50% straight / 50% swing ... together you get this sort of half shuffle / straight thing

  • Hey there, I tryed to email you on your website in regards to buying your books but your email address wouldnt accept the email :( , just need to know how much for standard international shipping to australia , Any help is greatly appreciated ! :)

  • is it possible to download ur book as pdf ? and does it have a video description?

  • you can use a music program which has a shuffle funstion like fruityloops to make this digitally and then try to play along it

  • The idea is good, but does fruityloops offer the stuff that´s in between the straight notes and the shuffle? I doubt that, unless you program something yourself

  • yes it does, it lets you decide the amount of shuffle, between 0 and 100% ;). thanks for the reaction though.

  • That´s a great feature, should make a great exercise to play along with! Greetz Ydna

  • The quasi-shuffle. Extremely hard!

  • great exercise!

  • how do you go about counting from straight 16th's to 16th note triplets?..... i mean 1e&a 2e&a and then how do change the time feel? can u tell me how does your count change?

    thank you

  • I gradually move the 2nd note towards the third and the 4th note towards the first note. It´s the same concept you can use with flams: You can play fat flams, regular flams, wide open flams (like in latin music) etc.

  • thank you boss! you rock... the only good drummer who gives advice for free... god blesss you!

  • This is a cool exercise. Many players, myself included, aren't often cognicent of exactly where they're placing the subdivisions in swing and shuffle grooves. Just being aware of those differences can really transform the feel of your playing.

  • cool

  • first to vu it!
