  • @TheRecover85 Hahahahahaha :D

  • As a little kid, I grew up in Chicago. There was this CTA bus called the MAN Americana (USA version of the above bus). I was obsessed with the sound the bus made. At the age of 4, I called it the bus-I-wanna-go-on. Now it's years later, and the bus is retired (DAMN!). For old times sake, I had to find it. I couldn't find any vids online that had that good old sound I loved, so I researched MAN, found the SL202, and this vid. Never realized the bus was German! I thought only GM supplied for CTA.

  • @GimmeSomeRockNRoll - Auckland new Zealand has Man SL202 buses. Christchurch New Zealand have some remaining as well i always loved riding this bus when i was younger about10 years ago

  • I'm not going to New Zealand anytime soon. I think I'll settle with the American version (Americana SL40-102). The winters here would make them cheaper, and I could always find the parts to the D2566UH engine and ZF transmission if they're failing. There's a MAN plant in Florida that has the parts. I'll bet that the end price for a refurbish will be under $10,000.

    Hi

Im located in Chicago, I drove CTA uses for 7 years, from 997 to 2005 and in those seven Ive spent more time driving the 4000 series Americanas than any other bus in the CTA fleet. I operated them out of Kedzie, North Pk and Forest Glen. One of my favorite buses! It was very reliable! .

  • @RTD8481 Are the any Americanas still Around As these Sl202 might be driving around Adelaide for next 8 yrs or so as bus life here is around 25-26yrs then retired, Also does Chicago still have the MAN artics which look similar to our Merc 0305G o-bahn buses which are vanishing fast

  • @910364

No we dont run the MAN equipment here anymore, the last 40ft Americanas were gone by 2001 We had three sets of artics. Two batches of artics 55ft long, were delivered in 1979 and 1982. In 1999 Chicago purchased used 60ft MAN artics from Seattle Transit Sytem. They were all retired by 2005.

  • @GimmeSomeRockNRoll I drove the CTA MAN Americanas back in the early 2000s It was a treat to drive them. I loved being behund the wheel of the MAN buses. I also drove the MAN Artics we had here as well. What a bus!! I miss them as well.! You want to get the real CTA sound, type in "884 MAN SL202 CNG" a night video taken aboard a MAN. That is my favorite video because it really captures the true sound of what the Chicago bus sounded like.

  • Wow, what a sound!

  • Sounds like an allison. Anyways great video!!!

  • SO BEAUTIFUL!!! I loved the ZF whistling at the beginning, and the ZF scream at 1:10! Excellent bus!

  • What a Great bus! Great ZF gearbox and it looks cool 5* !

  • kool twig

  • Ahh, a good old 182 :D
