This was an amazing, exciting series but losing Game 6 on a blatant penalty that went uncalled, performed by a Canadian hero like Gretzky no less, really was a turning point in my view of hockey - I couldn't love the game quite as much after that. Game 7 was an unbelievable game though, kudos to Gretzky for the best game of his career, that was a real nail-biter and I thought we almost had 'em near the end there!

A Toronto/Montreal Finals would have been EPIC. Those ratings would have been WAY higher.
With a bit of luck, Toronto would have had back to back Finals appearances in 1993 and 1994. They choked in 1993, combined with Fraser's non-call. In 1994, they had a rough 6 game series with Chicago, and had to win games 6 and 7 just to beat San Jose. They had no energy left whatsoever against Vancouver. Toronto was lucky just to win game 1.

You're absolutely right, all you have to make is 8 place and play well in the playoffs and you can win the whole thing while playing an avg season. Personally I think that the 1st place in each division should get an automatic bye to the 2nd round. The way it is now you play 82 games for home ice advantage, there should be more reward for finishing 1st.

I thought for sure the Kings were going to win the Stanley Cup. They were my favorite team. I was crushed when they lost to Montreal in crushing OT loss after crushing OT loss. To this day, I fucking HATE Montreal and that stupid ref who called the stick penalty on McSorley.

That penalty was the right call, but I bet someone from Montreal planted an illegal stick for McSorley to use. Anyway, the tying goal shouldn't have even counted. LeClair was standing in the crease interfering with Hrudy. Kerry Fraser caused us to lose the Cup.

Oh yeah, you never hear any Leaf fan make any argument about Game 7. That was a fair game. Unlucky, especially with Gretzky's 3rd goal off Ellett's skate, but fair. But when a clear call isn't made in Game 6, it's not easy to forget about because we never know what could have happened.
lol, in "The Love Guru" with Mike Meyers, it was Leafs-Kings in the Final.
Both teams will be much better in the near years to come. Both have young talent.

Clarkson, I think you're wrong that the Leafs wouldn't have won this game. A 5 minute powerplay is more likely than not a sure goal. I doubt that they would have won vs Habs in the finals, but this series the Leafs were robbed, I can't see any intelligent hoxkey fan arguing that. I think the worst call in NHL history is the Hull goal in 99 finals, where his foot was in the crease, this non call comes a close second.

I agree about the 5 minute pp is more likely than not a sure goal thing. Doesn't apply to this game because the leafs were already killing a penalty (Glen Anderson for boarding I think) prob a 3 minute pp. So really anything could have happened. GO KINGS GO!

I agree that Kerry Fraser screwed the Leafs by not calling the highstick on Gretzky. I'm not sure that the Leafs would have beaten the Habs though. That year the Leafs were the better team, but the Habs had Roy who was the better goalie and luck was on their side. The Habs won 10 overtime games that playoffs, isn't that proof enough that luck was on their side. I think the Habs would have won anyway, but I agree Fraser screwed the Leafs of a Stanley Cup Final series, I can't defend that.

Anyway I think the Habs had more than a good goalie that year, they had alot of luck and were destined to win the cup. Not too many teams win 10 overtime games in a row. If the laws of averages were in order, the Habs would have been golfing after the 2nd round of the playoffs. The Leafs that year were far better, I can't argue that, but it seemed the Canadiens were more destined to win.

oh for sure, hey habs did everything right in the playoffs, doesnt matter how bad you did in the season, as long as you clinch 8th spot, you can run away with the cup if your team makes the right calls. no doubts, so habs really deserved it. i mean New Jersy won the cup in (7, i was like WTF!!!! they just played the trap better than anyone.

You're absolutely right, all you have to make is 8 place and play well in the playoffs and you can win the whole thing while playing an avg season. Personally I think that the 1st place in each division should get an automatic bye to the 2nd round. The way it is now you play 82 games for home ice advantage, there should be more reward for finishing 1st.
This year the Leafs are done, the Habs most likely will make it and are starting to play well. I just hope a Canadian team wins, go Habs!
