Et à l'époque la prononciation théâtrale est déjà vieillie...

I agree that this is a wonderful production. Le Poème Harmonique deserves to be supported by sales of its DVD. Unfortunately, right now it looks like there's only one available through Amazon, for $93. I wish there were a poll on this page so we could send a message to Alpha Productions to reprint this issue! French Baroque music is glorious, and Moliere is supreme--what a combination.

This is true. Composers like Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven are the first composers most average people are exposed to and these composers are like the gateway to much better composers music lovers will discover later. Give me Lully, Cavalli, Rossi, or Corelli please. :)

Ce moment (ainsi interprété) est l'une des quintessences de la pièce. Peut-être aurait-il fallu préciser de quelle scène et de quel acte il s'agit, histoire de conférer à la chose un côté plus éducatif.
Toujours dans cette persective éducative, ajouter des sous-titres est souhaitable pour faciliter la compréhension de la prononciation de l'ancien français. Certes, la musique est baroque ; mais, en appréciant les mots (par exemple 6:06), on apprécie la délicate profondeur poétique de Molière !

song is about love offcourse. But actually, all french music represent beauty of french language and motions. Look their arms while they singing, look their mouth.
The tenor and the soprano praise the sweetness of love. Then the baritone says he was cheated on. He concludes women are false, and there is no faithful shepherdess. The couple carry on defending love, while the baritone says "Love: yuck".
The lady offers him her heart to show him love is possible. He accepts, but doubts about her faithfulness. She replies "Let's see who, of the two, will love better" Finally the three sing "How sweet it is to love, while two hearts are faithful"
Well, it's a pastoral idyll. The first one is walking through the forest singing about how there is nothing more sweet than the tender fires that make two hearts live in a same desire with his sheperdess. Then the third person comes in and laments the inconstance of women, and how "this inconstant sex, unworthy of the sun, should make forever renounce to love".
The two lovers enter into a discussion about the above subject, and in the end they all go on singing about how sweet it is to love when two hearts are faithful... *swoon* it's so romantic and pretty! Hope that was of some use...
I watched this alive in Belgrade it takes 4 hours long and I wanted more... Could someone put "balet des nations" this is most beautifull part of the whole peace which is coming on the very end of it.
This is wonderful! Done so authentically Baroque! The singing, the instrumentation, the staging/acting, the costumes, etc. WONDERFUL! I get SOOO tired of seeing wonderful baroque operas destroyed by modernistic "innovative" staging, costumes, etc. The Baroque needs to remain completely baroque as experienced here! THANK YOU!!!!

No it's french, even if LULLY was from italian origin. "Le Bourgeois gentilhomme" is a play from MOLIERE, music from JB LULLY.
You have there a perfect example of the Comedie-Ballet, a french theater style created during the XVIIe century.

I got in to Baroque through Bach -who didn't, though?- but my favorite composers are Lully and Rameau. The Germans get a bit too much credit.

La soprano est très habile. J'aime beaucoup ce qu'elle fait. Sa voix aussi.
Les « poses » que prennent les comédiens - mais surtout le baryton -, ça me tombe trop sur les nerfs, désolé.
La comédienne ne fait pas ce genre de poses.
