Tommy Orr made a clean hit on Marvin Graves. The only guys tossed out of the game were WVU players. The guy who started it (Graves) stayed in the game.

Don Nehlen was a great program builder. WVU fans need to read his book about how he helped get WVU football on the map. Sure, he lost more than his share of bowl games. But don't forget the great wins, and two undefeated seasons they had.

I grew up in WV during the Nehlen era. He put Mountaineer on the map. Coach Rod is going to take us to higher levels though. I love that book. You get chills reading it.

@Silkdashocker Alot of the bowl games were really close. My favorite one of those loses was against Minnesotta. I think that one Bulger threw for like almost 500 yards. It was amazing. Nehlen was a great coach. He is also in the College Football Hall of fame.

well! well! remember that game , still have it on vhs video and most of the wvu games from last 16 years. that was just don nehlen football folks . his dumb andy gump luck..lol i think he is still the biggest loser in college bowl history. 8 in a row! Notre Dame can match that but,thats thru several coaches. the only thing i remember about don nehlen was his losing!

I guess that is why coach Nehlen served as the president of the NCAA coaches association and was inducted into the coaches Hall of Fame right!Or how about no NCAA violations in over 20 years of coaching here!!Coach Nehlen made WVU football what it is today! You probably don't remember the old days at old mountaineer field, with the wrinkled up carpet(on the field) or losing to teams like Richmond or VMI, back in the days of Danny Buggs or Kerry Marbury?, but I do, and all that changed when Nehlen came to town..cause he was mountaineer 100%

@shelldawv Dont sweat it. Don Nehlen was the best coach WVU ever had. He was part of a breed of coaches that are pretty much gone. The 20 year head coach is a thing of the past. Holgersen could win a National Championship at WVU or he may never win another game. Either way hell be gone in 5 years. Tops. Just the nature of college football these days.
