  • the original 40 series sounds sick

  • nice test, but really comparing apples to oranges..not many muffler buyers have a 406 motor with brodix heads that runs like a nascar engine---they need a test on near stock or mild built street motors, cuz thats where most of their mufflers end up behind...:)

  • Question to anyone that can help.. I got a 350 and im putting 2 1/2 Original 40's.. What would be better H , X , or STRAIGHT pipes like i have it now is there any diff? Thanks..

  • @ALVIE78744 You should run an H-pipe, it will keep the bass tones in the system to give you a nice muscle car tone. X-pipes tend to delete bass notes and have a high pitched European sports car tone to them. Running only 1 pipe per muffler is just not advised otherwise your only bangin each muffler with 4 cylinders instead of 8.

  • Love Flowmaster, but I have to Dislike this. On this type of engine and pipe setup, they pretty much all sound the same to me. I'd love to see/hear a comparison on something closer to what we actually drive 95% of the time. Just do it on a modern chevy silverado with out headers and catless exhaust pipes for crying out loud.

  • super 10 sounds good have you tried a ford 428 cobra jet engine for sound compairsion

  • i dont give a fuck super 10 mufflers ull be mine in acouple days when i place my order!

  • @HOWARDSRACING If you think the super 10's sound good, you need to check out the 40 series Delta Force. Its a more aggressive version of the original 40 series. Type "true duals dumped" into the search, and you'll see a '95 Z28 thats teal. Its the epitome of Flowmaster badass. Type in delta force flowmaster, and you should find a '64 Chevy C/10 with the same mufflers.

  • @madtownmadman oh yeah they do sound good now i cant make up my mind haha thanks alot !

  • I just got some super 10s for my 85 chevy but they only have a 2.25 inch outlet. Would a 3 inch outlet make it louder?

  • Should you put flowmasters on a 77' trans am?

  • @Ironheade21 YES! one thing to be aware of though; the second generation trans ams have limited ground clearance for a true dual exhaust. While it is feasible to run a traditional 4 inch thick muffler under the car. I would use the 50 delta flow LOW PROFILE mufflers. the mufflers are only 3 inches thick and they sound really good. they will be mild on the interior but still have a traditional 'flowmaster tone' on the outside. They only come in 2.5 inch and the part number is 932556

  • im gettin them super 10's for my 84 monte carlo ss ;)

  • @zuneboy100 I've got 3.5" super 10's on my 428 powered 75 Trans AM. Dumps right at the rear axle. Just IMO, but way too loud for street driving, too raspy, and drones like a swarm of pissed off bee's while cruising. They're coming off as soon as I can get replacements.

  • @75Bird455 The Super 10's only go up to 3 inch, you must have the Delta Force Race muffler on there. Anytime you dump ANY exhaust, it's going to drone...it has no choice when it's trapped between the car and the ground, it's not the mufflers fault. Add tailpipes and an H-pipe(if you don't have one yet) to balance out the exhaust pulses and run the exhaust out from under the car. You'll get way better street manners.

  • Just give me the good ole open headers. Cant beat that noise, or aka music :)

  • Shit !! they all sounded fuckin sick! this didnt help me any!! lol

  • @Creeper613 haha creeper... but still the series 10 or hushpower shortys are your best bet

  • No delta flow 40's tested? Would they sound more like the original 40's or super 40's???

  • @meowmix90039 The Delta Flow 40 series would basically sound the same on the outside, the Delta Flow technology helps keep them calmer in the interior, that is why they did not get tested.

  • does anybody know what brand of headers they are? look tough

  • @ItalianStallionLouie They are not any particular brand. These headers are actual test headers for Dynos that

    I had ceramic coated.

  • @R69X3 Ahhh I see, they look good quality though because you hear all the hype about every header dealer but to me their all the same unless their tubes are technically made

  • Which one for the best sound for my 200 challenger rt?

  • @swaggajacka2010 Please call the Flowmaster Tech Line. 1-800-544-4761

  • Original 40's!

  • Hold on everyone! It's a "schmall"block!!! :) :)

  • OPEN SOUNDS BEST-

    70 SOUNDS CONSTRICTED-

SUPER 50 SOUNDS DEEPER CLOSE TO OPEN-

HUSH SOUNDS POWER SOUNDS DEEEP AND CLOSE-

    SUPER 10 SOUNDS HIGH PITCHED

    ORGINAL SOUNDS STOCK-

SUPER 10 SOUNDS CLOSE AND RACING LIKE

  • Hushpower= garbage sound. Those shouldn't even be in that same category...... Flowmaster!!

  • I would go with the hushpower bro series and shorty series and the super 10 series. those sounded the best to me.

  • Flowmaster testing on a GM motor. Imagine that. Flowmaster, have you guys done anything different in the last 15 years??

Make the same video but with a Ford & a Chrysler power plant.

  • @papabugs71 Sorry for using a Chev but it's the only motor I had. It is my personal motor for my Camaro. If I had a Ford or Mopar engine available to me I would do another video.

  • @R69X3 Man that would be great. Flowmasters sound so different on a 302 Ford compaired to a 350 GM. & the chrysler motors sound different from all others.

The Hushpower pro series have caught my eye. Im considering swapping out my 70 series for one.

  • They all sound so ssssweet. Do you have any probs: in the US with noise regs: on road legal cars?

  • @onedrydog There usually is no problem with running these mufflers on the street unless they are REALLY obnoxious, so it depends on the motor and on the driver. If you have a aggressive car but you drive nice, you'll be okay. If you have the same car but drive like a jack ass, the cops are gonna getcha for everything!

  • Whats the, best ones to put on a 96 caprice classic 5.7 dat will give it more rpm's an.dat monster sound?????

  • I wanna sell my 40's and get 10's. I want to get as close to open header sound while still keeping street legal.

  • Went and found set for the 4.6L GT on amazon for 250.00 and they sound nice.

  • I want to buy some original 40 series flowmasters and nearly everybody complains about their "HORRIBLE" drone... I heard none..........

  • i want to sell your product in our country pls give me your email add. already check you website cant find any email add. thanks...

  • I loved how the Hushpower pros and the 10 sound on that engine.

  • One of the better muffler "sound" videos on YouTube. What kind of sound recording equipment did you use? I only ask because when I try to record loud sounds with my DVD camera it automaticlly cuts the audio levels down. So you never get the true sound. I have a V-10 Ford with a 40 series and will be changing it out with the Hushpower. Check my channel to hear how it sounds!

  • just curious if you would know what kind of muffler for my 94 ford explorer would make it sound as close to the deep bass sound of a v-8 and LOOOOOUD without crossing the illegal line??? in massachusetts the cops are hard ass when it comes to noise! i dont have cats . i dont want to spend over $50 for the muffler. the current thrush turbo muffler isnt what i want. please help with any advice.

    thanks.

  • i have a 1997 Sonoma 4.3l with the 70 series cut off just after the cab. Sounds Amazing! :)

  • the flowmaster 40 original series muffler sounded the best in this video for sure i have one on my 1990 caprice 5.0 i have a clip of it on youtube

  • flow master sounded WAAAY BETTER then teh hush muffler by far

  • Comment removed

  • a solid roller cam?....not exactly typical....how many rodders out there know how to adjust solids......not many thats for sure...you should have used a hydraulic cammed motor....but hell, the video was great.

  • Here's a breakdown list of the mufflers:

    Open headers - 0:45

    70 Series - 1:10

    Super 50 Series - 1:33

    Hushpower Pro Series - 2:00

    Super 40 - 2:35

    Hushpower Shorty Series - 3:05

    Original 40 Series - 3:40

    Super 10 Series - 4:10

  • se some oil burn, rings not seated yet?

  • Billet Specialties 15X15 with Mickey Thompson 29X18 Sportsman S/R Radial

  • What rear tire and wheel set up is on that car in the background?

  • TO ALL LISTENERS, IF YOU REALLY NEED HELP PICKING SOMETHING OUT FOR YOUR CAR OR NEED TO CURE A CURRENT PROBLEM, CALL FLOWMASTER'S TECH LINE. THEY DO THIS STUFF ALL DAY LONG AND A HUGE MAJORITY OF THEM HAVE OR ARE INTO MUSCLE CARS NEW AND OLD!

  • Super 10s are where its at. I think they sound better with less tailpipe then their using here. You get a much deeper tone and they actually sound somewhat unique.

  • i like the hushpowers cause you can hear the lope of the cam

  • My neighbors say I do! Seriously whats quieter the Hushpowers or 70 Series?

  • which mufflers were the quietest? I have the 40 Series on my Camaro but need something quieter for the streets. And thanks for the vid.

  • @jedi09 Quiet? Who needs quiet?!

  • i was really dissapointed to see that you didnt test the best flowmaster out of them all :( the super 44's are hands down the best sounding flowmaster out there!!!!!

  • @wobigpat000 The Super44s were not tested because on video you would not be able to tell the difference btween them and the Super40s. The 44s are simply a THINNER version of the Super40s. The Super40's are 5 inches thick and the 44s are 4 inches thick, the 44s are modeled after the Super40s.

  • i personally like the super 10's

  • I love the Hushpower series.

  • @illatu2 deffinately super 40s. Great sounding muffler.

  • ima run shorty headers and 3 inch duals on a stock 350. i want something really loud with a good tone. which one should i get for my likings???

  • @illatu2 you should just call the guys at Flowmaster and they can help you pick out some mufflers for your car.

  • @illatu2 flowmaster super 44's are the way to go, had a couple of them on my k1500 pickup, definently a head turner!!!!!

  • thank you flowmaster for the presentation and such i was set on buying a series 40 then when i heard the 50 series i knew that was the one for my 08 vortec max its gonna sound good thankyou very much.

  • I look to install it on my mustang flowmaster v6 3.8 I want to sound like a V8 flowmaster series has to be and how many 1 or 2 ahy you to install it

  • Comment removed

  • @benii02 i think you should call the people at Flowmaster, they can help you with your V6 Mustang, here's the phone number for them 1-800-544-4761. Hope this helps you out.

  • @69camarodrvr

ablate due to the number but I'm from mexico ahy aki en youtube a video of a v6 mustang, but I do not understand to what you put them on video is

    called

My 96 Mustang 3.8L with flowmasters

  • @benii02 Flowmaster has a dual exhaust kit for your car that bolts up to your midpipe and then splits to 2 mufflers and 2 tailpipes. The part number I found using their website is 17276. They say when the car is idling it has a sound similar to a V8.

  • quiero intalarle flowmaster a mi mustang v6 3.8 quiero que se escuche como un 8 cilindros que clase de flowmaster le tengo que intalar y cuantos 1 o 2 ...

  • Great presentation. Best one I have heard yet !!! I have had several different exhaust setups on my various toys. My 57 Belair with a small block has stock "Ram Horn" manifolds with 2 1\2 inch aluminized pipe and 50 Series Flows with a Bassani X-Pipe and tail pipes out the back. AWESOME sound. One-of-a-kind.

  • Thanks, that was a lot of work...

With all the fancy mufflers out today, my 53 year old ears still like the sound of a perforated core glass pack or the Porter steel pack...

  • ORIGINAL 40 SERIES....The only way to go!!!!!!!

  • Open headers sounded the best! ;)

  • I've heard they make another video like this one but with a mild motor and 2.5 inch exhaust.

  • Awesome video!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • very good job...definately shows the different tones.

  • as i stated before my comment got deleted by flowmaster, listening to this video made me not like any of their mufflers. all these mufflers sound like ass, tinny as shit. why would someone buy these when they dont flow worth a damn and sound so horrible. thrush magnum glasspacks for me baby :)

  • @michaelmyers1993 So if Thrush is so great, why do they now have a chambered muffler like the Flowmaster instead of sticking with their cheap glass pack design? How do you know |Flowmaster doesnt flow? are you looking at flow bench numbers? A flow bench is not a motor! A motor does not blow cool air at a continuous rate, it's hot exhaust gases in pulses with soundwaves. If You prefer the glasspack sound that's fine but Flowmaster has been run on pretty much every form of race car with success.

  • @69camarodrvr

yes i prefer the glasspack sound over the sea of delta flows in the world. but yea i was looking at flow bench testing, hooker max flows were the best flowing, same as 2 1/2 inch straight pipe

  • @michaelmyers1993 I'm simply stating that using a flowbench is not the way to test exhaust, that's what chassis dynos are for. An airflow bench is great for the top end of the motor (carb, intake, heads) but once the 'big bang' happens the exhaust is hot and has soundwaves in the mix NOT cool air. And as I stated last time, if the Flowmaster is sooo horrible why is Thrush making a knock off 40 series muffler??

  • @69camarodrvr

yea i see where you're coming from on that. and thrush is making that knockoff probably to just make money off of all the tools that go to flowmaster. if we're talking about the same muffler, its the one thats like $30 right? and i honestly think that about 80% of people who buy flowmasters are tools that only listen to what others say. the other 20% have researched how they can benefit from it.

  • Respond to this video...

for example i showed someone a video of glasspacks and they were like "eww that sounds like shit". showed them a flowmaster video "they sound amazing!". showed them a video of a glasspack and told them it was a flowmaster and they were like "they sound really amazing!". told them they were glasspacks and to my face he said "oh, they sound like ass"...just a bunch of tools man

  • @michaelmyers1993 We can go round and round about sound all day long, sound is a preference and everyone is entitled to their opinion, I'm totally ok with that, My concern was that you think the muffler doesnt perform according to the flowbench and I'm simply telling you that a flowbench is just a gimmick and using a chassis dyno is a proven piece of equipment. I will admit that Ive heard systems with FM that don't sound good but a lot of people also think a 40 series belongs on everything.wrong

  • @69camarodrvr

exactly. i wouldn't mind them if they had personality. i mean seriously they sound the same on every engine. a 454 sounds like a 318, 302, 265, 350 etc.

  • @michaelmyers1993 I dont think the comparisons are that close but Flowmasters do have their own tone and there are like 12 options of series to choose from to give you different volumes and tones. I personally think that all glasspacks sound the same and the only thing that seperates them is the outside material (304 stainless or aluminzed steel). Dynomax, Magnaflow, Borla, Corsa, Thrush...all the same

  • @69camarodrvr

yea flowmasters just have the flowmaster tone to them, lots of people say they sound the same no matter what setup, and that whatever series it is determines the loudness of the flowmaster tone. you can hear what the actual engine sounds like with glasspacks seeing as they are basically a straight pipe

  • @michaelmyers1993 I'm gonna agree to disagree, have you watched the Dynomax video where they test the mufflers on a 502? The video, while impressive to show goers is completely worthless, there's no H or X pipe and no tailpipes! Either way, this discussion was not about sound in the first place, I was only pointing out that a see through muffler is no better than a Flowmaster in performance just because a flow bench says so. Just out of curiosity, what do you drive?

  • @69camarodrvr

    in the works a 1971 chevelle ss454. currently a gmc sierra 1500

  • @michaelmyers1993 Well, good luck with the Chevelle, I had one myself and loved the car. Make sure to post a video of it when you have it in running order and give a brakedown of the exhaust you choose to run. Maybe by the time you post a video I might have my 67 done (454 with 3 inch exhaust and Shorty Hushpower Pro-Series).

  • @69camarodrvr

    will do

  • Excellent video ... Thank you

  • if i had to choose, id say either the super 40 or super 10

  • unfortunatley, these arent what i was looking for. anyone know any exhaust systems that minimizes the popping sound? and produces a very DEEP rumble sound?

  • 0:17 what do heads mean?

  • @stockedmuscle its what the intake and exhaust valves set in and they are what the headers bolt up to for the start of your exhaust set up

  • @97chevyZ71350 i dont know what that means exactly. can you explain it more. i know the headers and exhaust setup

  • @stockedmuscle the heads which you can see at :11 are the silver colored items on the top of the motor. they contain: the rocker arms, which pushes all of the valves open via the camshaft; the intake valves, which lets in the fuel/air mixture from the intake on top of the motor; and the exhaust valves, which let the gases from the burnt fuel out of the motor. i hope i explained it for you good enough. if not comment back and i will message you in greater detail about heads.

  • @97chevyZ71350 youve explained it fine, thank you

  • very nice video, i think the flowmaster 10 series is for my mustang 2004

  • Super 40

  • wth do the super 44 series

  • you guys should use a smaller engine like a 350 and not have it so beefed up it sounds amazing but i want to hear what these mufflers would sound like on my truck! thanks alot and great video!

  • super 10's..

  • i like the 50 series.

  • I think you should make another video with a smaller motor closer to the average everyday motor you see running around. Like a 350/355 with a baby cam or something. I'm sure it would only be a change in overall volume but it would be cool, maybe even a mild big block maybe? I love flowmasters I put them on everything and maybe sometime soon I'm thinking a super 40 on my pocketbike. LOL!!!

  • i have 10's on my 73 c10..they are loud!i like the thrush welded on my 68 c10 alot..i took off my 40's for them and im happy with the swap..

  • 10 Series FTW!!!!!!!!!

  • On behalf of this video I would like to encourage people to leave comments

  • This is the best flowmaster video ever! The audio quality was clean and clear the video was smooth. It's nice to see someone do a video thats NOT in a dyno room, it eliminates echo and gives the best comparison for real raw sound. And it was a great idea to set up a full exhaust system, creating the closest comparison of sound to what will be on the car. LONG LIVE FLOWMASTER!!!

  • I liked the hushpower shorties the best

  • @dejuan71 defintly, i won a set of flowmaster mufflers, picked the hushpower mufflers 1 pro series for my IROC and 1 hp2 for my durango, cant wait to here what they sound like lol.

  • that super 10 is badass

  • Thanks allot! helped me pick out what i wanted!

  • Love this video! Thanks! That was the comparison I was looking for! Even better then the Flowmaster Website comparison section.

  • Like the Super 10 Series! I have Super 40's on my 1970 GTO and a Super 44 on my 2004 Jeep GC 4.7 V8. I love the sound every Flowmaster gives. The perfect tone with the right amount of volume. I will always buy Flowmasters for any car I want to change the exhaust on.

  • Awesome vid!! Should do one with the 60 series for 4 bangers maybe a turbo ecotec one lol I could listen to flowmaster all day. Had a super 40 on my truck sounded amazing!!.

  • Best vid yet. I hope you do this with other motors too. Maybe on a dyno next time.

  • all of the mufflers sounded awesome. i have a 50 series delta flow on my 1988 chevy 4.3 and it sounds awesome for a V6
