I had a niva in Germany. They are not powerful, but they can pull themselves through the mud. An Army buddy got a M1008 Chevy Pick up, stuck in a big mud pit, and I drove into the pit and drove around him without any problems! Wish I still had it. Super Little Mudders!

In Greece, many people can afford just any type of Jeep. Still people that use off road cars have one thing to say: Buy a Niva or just stay on road, there is no reason to buy 4 times the price of a Niva to do less things than the Niva off road. That is you can buy as well 1 Niva, then 1 nice normal car and have it cheaper at the end!!!!

most of the nivas sold here are still on the road, 16+ years later. they are an excellent little vehicle, far superior to the japanese and korean crap that most people buy. sure the jap crap have more bells and whistles but for pure economy and utility, not to mention ease of repair and cheapness of parts the lada has them beat hands down.

i'd take the niva any day.

i managed to get a lada stuck once ,trying to drive across a ditch

it was deep enough to get both front wheels in ,ground the middle bit and had ice on the side so there was no chance of getting back out...pulled it out with a "bobcat" forklift i managed to cross with that but diagonally rather than straight .

@tirapelli +1 man. The Niva was famous in my country (Greece) and it still is, although the market produces more SUV-style 4X4 cars. Only Niva indeed is the real off road. In th future it is possible to buy one, as a "worker" car. The 1,7 plus LPG.
