Great player, but also not too bad a England manager to be fair to him.
England played some great football under him (much better than the shit we have just seen). No mean feat with a line-up that regularly featured Batty, Ince, Adams and the Neville brothers. All decent players in their own way, but none was a 'fooballer'.
@tysonlefthook gazza was smoking and drinking and didnt even play for a club because rangers sacked him, think you should take that comment back hoddle probly best englad manager since venebles he took us to a penalty shoot out with an incredible argina side with ten men!
Thanks for sharing these wonderful old clips. Yes , he should have been an automatic pick for england for at least 10 years but england managers all seemed to distrust instinctive flair players - such a shame . As for better than Zidane though ,er , no. Zidane excelled at the business end of major tournaments ; Hoddle merely acquitted himself well at that level - no shame in that at all of course and i wish we had a midfielder like him now !!
The closest thing to Glenn Hoddle that Spurs have at the moment is either Modric or Kranjcar. Both have excellent vision and dribbling ability with shooting capabilities.
brian robson wasnt in the same class as hoddle. why did robby robson not build his team areound glenda. he is the closest thing to platini or maradona that england has ever produced
As an Italian lad growing up in Australia, Totenham was my team and the reason for that was simply my hero - Glenn Hoddle. He was the greatest I have ever seen. He was so far ahead of every player it wasn't funny. He had it all - would glide with the ball when dribbling, could pin point a pass from 50 metres away and could shoot with power and precision - left or right. Simply a Footballing Genius.
The greatest passer of the ball I have ever seen, and I'm 46! Two footed and wasted by England played on the right. Even better than Gazza, and that says it all.
cppleewox does know a genius if it hit him in the face though you dumb little turd,i saw gascoigne play before your mum n dad met in that back alley so shut up,any player will tell you gazza was the best of his generation and was dropped for no good reason, exept he liked a pint n a fag,but with talent like his who cares?
Aye Aye cripplewoox, are u gazza's brother or summat pal ? Only his bro would defend the beer swilling chuffer like u do mate. Hoddle's goal v watford is still one of the best goals ever scored, can't remember any one of gazza's goals, they were all pokes in from 3 yards weren't they pol ??!!! Only thing I remember about gazza was him grizzling and lineker telling robson to get him off the pitch ASAP, nowt new there.........
dont make me laugh u idiot, your trying to tell me that scholes was better than gascoigne??NO WAY IS MY ANSWER TO THAT!and hoddles desision making is very iffy to say the least, talent like gascoignes was surley taken for granted and the only losers was hoddle and the squad,i bet they wanted to kick his arse
Gascoigne was nowt but a kebab eating loose cannon, and u know it u idiot ! Yes, gascoigne was probably better technically than scholes, but Scholes is a model pro who didnt spend the height of his career getting bladdered every weekend.I'm sure every club in the land would love a a scholes - dedicated, LOYAL, hardworking and doesn't quibble about having an extra 10 grand in his pocket every week. Gazza must have been a managers worst nightmare with his antics.
Genius. Pure, sublime, midfield brilliance, a footballer's footballer. Tottenham's finest, England's finest and could have been England's best manager if it wasn't for the rabid pox-ridden media in this country. Remember that when you buy the Star, Sun, Mirror or whatever toilet roll you read.....
The only team that were going to win France '98 was France. Hoddle's skills were sublime, & he had a rare trait ... in that he always had a go. Good on him - used to love watching him play. Thanks for posting - Jimbo
hoddle is a fuckin wanker, lost us france 98 he did because he dropped gazza just because our best player wanted a kebab,i wont ever forgive the little rat
I think you will find the ref who disallowed Sol Campbells perfectly good goal v the argies was to blame for Englands exit (plus him falling for Simeone's play acting). Steven Gerrard is probably the only current english player who has ever come to close to having as much ability of Hoddle, even he plays second fiddle though !. Shove that up yer kebab !
I agree, but Gerrard has really yet to perform in in England shirt, compared to what he's done at club level. Hoddle was great at both club and international level, although I'll grant you he was a p1ss poor England Mananger
bollux buddy, gascoigne "could" have been a great player but he just turned into another kebab eating waster in a lacklustre period for english football, bar Paul Scholes !
The 80s.. Hoddle, Waddle,Barnes, Gascoine in 2008 these are such players of brilliant vision and skill the current Premiership and entire English league youth systems put together can only dream of producing. RIP English football..
Hoddle was certainly one of the most gifted players of his generation, a thinking mans footballer a la Paul Scholes of the modern era, coincidentally neither of them can tackle for toffee !! :-). Cracking video, more Hod crackers plse !.
definatly agree with everyone, he was technically the best 2 footed player ever he could o all that when the ball weight half a tonne and wouldnt bend and dip just like that, best play maker and best all round good guy, was a spurs legend scored on debut and scored in his last match who could possibly question his class?pitty he was overlooked as an england player.

i first saw hoddle at the FA cup Final against Man City then against QPR. i was 13 and thanks to him i began to appreciate the playmakers in the game.
