Sorry your anatomy is wrong. The lats attach to the lateral aspect of the intertubercular groove of the humerus and act to adduct/extend and internally rotate the humerus. The exercise you demonstrated with the straps works mainly the lat and is not a good scapular retraction rehab exercise in a subject with poor scapuale stabilization.
Dr. Mark I dont respond very often but I have to disagree with you. The lats are huge stabilizers of the scaps and this exercise helps dramatically with scapular depression and works pec minor aswell. I have used these exercises to completely rehab my own scap issues and combined with NMT to free up sub scap restrictions these exercises have helped more than a doz of our clients who failed to get any relief with PT. I do agree with your anatomical knowledge of origin and insertion of lat dorsi.
1. The lats are not "huge scapular stabilizers." In fact they challenge the scapular stabilizers during scapulothoracic and glonohumeral rythm. 2. A short/contracted pec minor is a common cause of abnormal scapular rythm and more often needs to be stretched not strengthened. 3. In people with true abberant scapula/thoracic function starting with this exercise may be harmful. 4. In people with balanced and normal function the exercise may be beneficial.
I really liked your video. Youtube can be a great asset for you. If you need any help getting your video exposed i use a site called Tubeviews . Net It has really done wonders for me, Keep in touch
