  • yes, reality is always the worst part of a vacation. hell, it's the worst part about life in general. that's why I try and avoid it as much as possible. reality? it's totally for losers. totally.

  • Just what IS reality? Is it by chance replying to comments months after the fact? LOl

  • If u r reading this, then u will find a dead bloody body hanging in ur closet. U will be haunted and killed by her. to stop it posti this to 6 other videos in 30 GOOD LUCK

  • Great views! This video makes me want to back there and explore some more!

  • I can't wait to go back!

  • My best vacation ever was a three week road trip up the Alaska Highway... I keep saying I want to go back. The trip was in 1997. I'm not trying to jinx you or anything, but who knows when I will venture to San Francisco again. Let's hope you can get down there before 2021...

  • I hope to be there within the next year!

  • Thanks for sharing your incredible trip with us. Glad you had a great time bud.

  • It was great! :)

  • Mike dated himself a little bit there with the "floor wax and dessert topping" line, LOL

(and I guess I dated myself by understanding it and calling him on it, D'OH!)

San Francisco's hills are almost as much of a workout as Dolly Parton's.

    Wait - WHAT??

Okay, so if the smoke monster were climbing Mt. Tam and Locke was leading Ben and the others to the Jacob Gathering, what year would Jack, Kate and Sawyer do swan song videos for Vloggerheads?

    #itneverends!

  • I'm sure they'd all end up on DramaTube, yo, complaining about the DharmaIniative!

What commercial is the floor wax and dessert topping from? I have no idea that was from something.

  • I kinda thought that one flew by you without you noticing.

And now I feel even older. LOL

It's an old SNL skit from the 70s. Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner and Dan Ackroyd all in their glory! Radner and Ackroyd were husband and wife, arguing over whether their can of Shimmer was a floor wax or a dessert topping. Chase played the announcer who told them, "it's BOTH!"

    :-)

  • OMG...Now I remember! I was too young for the original cast of SNL. I kind of start remembering the show during the Eddie Murphy Buckwheat, Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood, and Gumby Years. I was all about SNL in high school during the Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, Dennis Miller, Victoria Jackson years.

"The word of the day is 'bitch.' Say it to yo mamma. Did she slap you? GOOOD. Then you said it right!"

  • Victoria Jackson wasn't as visible as some of the other cast members but she was one of my faves during that period. I hope they get that far with the season DVD sets (although they seem to have stalled at S4).

The year right after Radner and the others left was horrid, but lucky for us they bounced back. I can't imagine a world without the "Who Shot Buckwheat?" scandal.

    :-)

  • I was at my aunt and uncles cabin and we were all watching SNL. It was late and the first time I'd ever seen the show. I was just young enough to actually think Buckwheat got shot! it was scandalous!!

  • Remembering where you were when you saw something for the first time, now THAT'S how you know something made an impression.

  • I also remember the first time I saw Nicolet Sheridan come out of a swimming pool on Knots Landing. Wowza! Too bad she's looking more and more like a desperate has-been these days!

  • I remember where I will be next week when I read the comment you just wrote in response to the one that I wrote in response to the one you're about to write.

  • Unless the incident makes it so I never made a YouTube video, thus never meeting you so you can continue on your merry way in L.A. reliving the 70s. o_O

  • The island told me you'd say that.

  • It is your destiny to stay stuck in the 70s!

  • watch?v=S4T-MMxSvDE

  • It did look like you had a great time - and thanks for letting us share. Awesome pictures as always (I'm afraid of heights too)

  • Thanks Danny! I can't believe it's all over.

  • you and buddies rock! so, no para gliding in your future, eh!

  • Probably not! :)

  • thats good, ppl who do that always remind me of lillaputians(sp?) stuck on a kite

Thanks for sharing it was awesome coverage :)

  • Hello Gary! Long time no see! I wish one day i visit SF, it's gorgeous!

  • I hope to meet you some day too!

  • i didn't know you were afraid of heights! must have been an exciting ride up then! ...and this video has inspired me to trek up to mt tam again soon. it's silly i live so near but have only been up a handful of times!

  • It's more the fear of not having control than anything. If I'm hiking up a mt., I do fine. Riding in a car on a curvy road with no railings is another story!

You really have to go up there! Make a video about it!

  • My evil cackle has never gotten such a workout as that day while driving you to the edge of certain death.

The shots of everyone along the cliff made me feel a rashlike itch. Wonder why?

Isn't the rule of thumb that when you run out of video material, you have to go back and capture more? I just made that up.

I found the nearest Sonic to the Bay Area. It's down the street from an In-N-Out Burger. Come back and we'll do a taste test!

  • We're getting a Sonic here this summer! There's no way it can top In-N-Out. No way.

And yeah, I'll be back. And this time with a killer camera at my side. You thought I was annoying taking 100s of pictures now?!

  • Cool music, must have been fun to make it. Running up and down hills, ahhh! I leave that to the experts. ;)

  • Yeah...those hills are something else!

  • i looked like you had loads and loads of fun !

  • I truly did! :)

  • this is really cool Gary. I thought the Golden Gate bridge only existed in movies....;)

  • Thanks Jason! It all felt like some elaborate CG effect to me, it really did!

  • I know exactly the feeling of tiredness that comes over you after so many fun days on the road. My record on one trip is 42 nights out in a row. You're wrecked, but wouldn't change it for the world.

Hey, if they have a Mount Tam, do they have a River Tam?

  • It's a good kind of tired, that's for sure. Of course, when you get back, it's the worse kind of tired.

    Not sure about River Tam.

  • Firefly reference fail... ;D

  • Isn't her name River Glau? ;)

  • ??? Summer Glau is the actress that plays River Tam.

Haha - now I'm not sure if you're joking or not! Germany must be getting to my ability to pick up on subtle humour.

  • In order to not make myself sound brain dead today, let's pretend I was joking! Summer Glau, btw, FTW!

  • Haha! Let's...

Ah, I'd still go Kaylee Frye/Jewel Staite over Summer Glau. We can double date...

  • I can see that! That makes it easy for us all!

  • Yes, I'd hate for _that_ awkward situation to arise! ;DDD

  • Yeah! Problem solved!! LOL

  • We have the Music City Marathon every year, bands are set up and playing all over the race course. The Kenyans kicked ass again this year.

I dont do heights well either, have to have a Valium when I fly.

  • OMG...I bet that would be amazing!

I don't mind flying at all! I find that part of it relaxing, weird, huh?

  • First off, i love that music. I might have to borrow that at some time.

That view was pretty spectacular wasn't it? I'm not a big fan of heights either, as you know. But, for a view like that. it's well worth it.

The more i see of that place, the more i like the look of it. I can see why you had such a great time :)

  • Thanks! Go ahead and grab the music for sure!

  • So... when you comin' back? I need to get some more Pinkberry.

  • I won't be coming back soon enough my friend!

  • Ah the memories.....

    we have to go back!!!!

  • Let's go RIGHT NOW!

  • The bay to breakers run is 12K (7.2mi) in which it took my brother 20 minutes to cross the start line.

In nearly the same breath both Fear of heights and 'look at the view!' Great combo. Yesterday, seems so far away.

  • Yeah..hard to believe that was all those weeks ago already!

  • great shots! I'm afraid of heights too....so I know where you're coming from.

  • Thanks!

  • I didn't know you were scared of heights!

  • It's more the lack of control on those cliffs with no railings! Once I'm out of the car and can get a little closer to the ground, then i do alright!

  • LOVES me some Mt Tam.

  • I couldn't imagine biking up that thing. That's impressive!

  • yes, most of us Midwesterners prefer to stay closer to the ground :) Cliffs make the soles of my feet tingle! Well not just cliffs, but heights in general

  • Once I actually get out on the cliff and have some control, I'm fine....it's just the riding in the car with no rails part that suddenly makes my instincts kick in! :)

  • This is a regular part of your year, March before YouTube was probably not as much fun! Great video, Gary!:)

  • This trip was a major deal for me. It will be one of those things I talk about for years to come! But NOW what do I talk about on my channel? LOL

  • MIke is right, Bay to Breakers is CRAZY! There is a Half and full there on the 26th of July as well, I was thinking I might try to go do that. Great pics! I miss it.

  • You know, Matt....This might be a great way for you and I to meet each other. There's no way I'd be ready for either of those races this year...but next year perhaps? I wonder if there are any 1/2 marathons somewhere between where you live and where I live that we could meet up? Just a thought...lol

  • Great, you got some footage in the car before you ran out of memory. I wish I had a picture of those deer just standing in the grass off the road.

    We have to go back!!!

  • Yeah...I figured I had enough of my reaction to get the gist of my slight freeeeekout! LOL

    We do have to back!!!

  • It almost sounded like you were going into the blues before you even left this time, before you said you were tired. It looks like you had a very nice time and the scenery was incredible

  • I totally was getting the blues if I thought about it too much. My trip was something like 5 weeks ago and I paced myself posting the videos just so I could stretch out my memories! I still have one more batch of photos to upload to my Facebook before I'm truly "done" cataloging this trip! :)

  • You know, once you get used to the mountains they become so important to you. All the years I lived in the midwest, I struggled to find my way around. It's all well and good to know which side of 35w you're on, but if you can't see it to orient yourself, it does no good! I've been back here about a dozen years and no day goes by that I don't appreciate them. One place we hike in the Malibu hills has a view of Catalina and the Channel Islands. So great!!!!!!!! Nice vid - so glad you enjoyed CA.

  • I never thought of it that way! Locally, i have a river to kind of orientate myself around, but that's about it.

I loved CA very much and can't wait to go back!

  • great vide

  • Thx!
