@basherman69 Prince wrote all of the songs on this album. He probably wrote this with the intention of singing it himself, and when he gave it to Sheila he had to change the lyrics to fit the gender. Otherwise Sheila would be singing about her lesbo love for The Belle of St Mark - which wouldn't be a bad thing...

@Skechers1 To be honest with you, I know that Prince wrote the song, and probably for himself to release as a single. Also, when the song was released as the follow up to "Glamourous Life", it really didn't bother me that the 'belle" was a young man. It was still a nice song.

I made the previous post to be rhetorically sarcastic, but I wonder if Prince could have found a gender-specific term to replace "belle". "Beau" seems to me like a good word, just to start.

I got into a bit of trouble there with the "Collective" there when I expressed the opinion that I didn't want to see the boy on boy action twice.

OMG. My head! That's not Sheila E as we love her, that's could be named a blend of Pussycat (NL, known for hits like "Mississippi") and ABBA. Not my cup of tea, sirs. =D I prefer her (electro-)funky and acrid like in "A Love Bizarre".
