  • Amazing this song was sung too slow and you did Handels "And the Glory of the Lord" WAY too fast! Interesting but this really dragged at places.

  • Gloria by Rutter-High School Choir? How cool.

  • if thats the school auditorium, it looks like a fun place to perform!!

love the trumpets :D (i play one myself haha)

sounds like a great song, great job :]

if youve listened to any of the OHSCC songs on here, i go to school there :]

  • @lynxie23 preforming on stage is amazing :) I played there not too long ago.

  • I agree, it should have been a bit faster, but it's probably a good temp for a high school group.

I love the timpanist (I'm a tad biased), and the choir is pretty good too (again, biased). A couple little points to look at, but a good performance!

  • I go to school there!

  • not bad, but not good either. Tempo should have been faster..

  • well done...my high school choir did this song last year..it was the hardest song iv'e ever attempted to sing!

    JOB WELL DONE!

  • I love this song and I thought they did a wonderful job. My son's high school would never attempt something like this, unfortunately. I think it's good for them to have something fairly difficult to strive for. Good Job North Penn HS.

  • Again, I just wish that this piece were conducted in one up to tempo...

  • This choir didnt do a great job. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad, but it wasnt good. A few pitch problems (expected in a difficult and long song). I dont like there vowel shapes they could definitely use improvement. Its all right a little too bright. And the biggest problem I see is that there seems to be a lack of emotion. This song is meant to be very lively with the brass and percussion the choir doesnt seem to reflect this trait. But it was better then an average high school choir.

  • What is this song called, and who is it written by? Im trying to find the lyrics but i cant find them anywhere!!

  • This is John Rutter's rendtion of "Gloria", which I mentioned at the beginning of my detailed description of the video.

  • This sounded very good, and my school, Cass Tech, sings it too, and I think they did very good...It is easy to play an instrument...I play several..but singing is alot of work..but I can do that too so...all Haters who make a bad comment need to go!!!!

  • Very slow.

    Good choir

    Dodgy band

  • i agree

  • I commend you for attempting to sing this song. The band sond good, However the choir is unsupported and can't keep up with the band. Although the Band is accompanying the choir, The choir laks style.

I would suggest working with the vowels and makeing sure that they are more intune. Your sopranos and alto sound as if they are screaming at the top of their voice and trying to hide it by the roundness. the tenors and basses sound if they are about to choke in the upper tessatura.

  • Hi. I was not apart of this performance, but you sound like you know a thing or two about music. As a fellow musician, how do you as singers compete with the band? The hbrass is very strong.

  • hey well i was in this performance, and i think the way we did it was with ALOT of breath support, plus we are all very good singers and had to practice very hard for the right sound quality. we also have very strong voices, but i think the main thing is the breath <3

  • I was fortunate to be a member of the 1983 Kentucky All-State Chorus and we preformed all 3 movements of John Rutter's GLORIA. It is a spectacular piece and is difficult to perform for even seasoned college choirs! The 3rd movement is actually, in my opinion, one of the most difficult movements I have ever sung in my life. Thank you so much for your post... It brought back great memories and a tear in the eye...

  • You mean Rutter is the hardest you get?

Not Dream of Geronyius, Verdi Requiem, Brahms Requiem, Nelson Mass, etc.

I accept this is one of Rutter's only decent choral pieces but trust me, as an ex Westminster Abbey Chorister, this is by no means hard!

  • but not everyone has the wonderful education nor opportunity that you had - singing almost everyday in a great abbey. I'll bet you had rehearsals everyday during the school year. For a high school that's not a specialized high school this is quite good, given that they might have practice maybe 3 times a week, regularly.

Yes, there are harder pieces out there but rutter is accessible, and doesn't require an orchestra.

  • Not to mention, Rutter IS difficult, I don't care what anybody says (even stuntin' bourgeois musicians like jonnyk with his educational *claims*) mixed meters, crazy intervals, random key changes, and did I mention those mixed meters? and then you mention Verdi's Requiem Jonny? Really?

  • Have you ever gotten a chance to sing Jesus Child? If not, you really should, because it is one of my favorites for Christmas. As a freshman at Hardaway High School (Columbus, Georgia United States) I can say that it is stunning with its Soprano solo

  • I am just a recent 2008 American high school graduate who plans to study music education, but what about A Clare Benediction, or Jesus Child? I have sung both, and personally find them to be quite good!

  • Simply magnificent!! But where are the other two movements??

  • Thanks for your post. Unfortunately the group did not perform the other two movements. This was part of the big "Winter Concert", and many other groups had to perform. As it was the concert was 2 hours long.

  • That's a shame. I'll bet they'd have done a spectacular rendition of the 3rd movement! :)
