  • I like this live version. It's played more punchy than on the album.

  • XDDD I LOVE THIS BAND .

  • Get any tune on Mediaoutletonline. Simplly search it with Gooogle :P

  • aww they were young! :D

  • I think this is my favourite video of anything, ever.

  • wtf that was amazing haha

  • DCFC are both musical and lyrical geniuses!

  • @youreTerribl shut up man! you know nothin' about good quality! so stop writing shit under awesome songs!

  • i want them to be down to earth seattle sad dudes again. Now Theyre marrying movie stars and shit. Get chubby again and wear stupid glasses and just make this stuff again! You Are a Tourist is an awful song.

  • @YoureTerribl i don't think it's a terrible song, I think that it is just one of their lesser greats on the new album. I am definatley looking forward towards something more substantial in content. Something that moves me like Title and Registration did when I first heard it last year. lyrically i dont think its as good as that or movie script ending.

  • @YoureTerribl i would not say that "You are a Tourist" is a terrible song, but it seems like their new songs have less heart and meaning behind them. I guess I got spoiled with great songs like "Title and Registration" and "Transatlanticism"

  • @lbraddock44 Codes and Keys isn't anywhere near their earlier stuff lyrically but I think they basically said it wasn't going to be as they were making it. It was more of a musical exploration which comes through in most of the songs, especially st peter's cathedral and unobstructed views.

  • @ScaredPiglet

You obviously don't understand music at all if you think the only thing that makes music good is a catchy tune. Moron.

  • What Pedal/Effects is christopher walla using for this song - on the guitar???????

  • every time i watch them, they are even more fantastic

  • thats a really pretty telecaster.

  • Dcfc is simply amazing. Nothing can ever replace them

  • @RaacheI except for The postal service, but there same people so it doesnt matter :)

  • Late night in a hotel room on the road for work I was skipping through channels and just in time ti see McEnroe introduce DCFC. This was the clip I saw, and I have been a fan ever since!

  • 11 people listen to justin bieber

  • @stopdropandroll 11 million, you mean. bieber is beloved by hoards of unfathomable nitwits.

  • Incredible song live.

  • Horribly depressing shit. What is the point of listening to this crap just to become unhappy?

  • @ScaredPiglet

Hm, I don't become depressed listening to this, although the lyrics do seem sad. It makes me happy listening to music this good, but that's just me.

  • @ScaredPiglet Music, like all creative output, is primarily based on emotion. You think any sad song/film/artwork/performance is horrible shit? Now that is something to be sad about.

  • @ScaredPiglet Douche, it's not mean't to be horribly depressing. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they're crap.

  • @ItHadToBeKaya I kind of find it ironic that the guy's username is scaredpiglet but he doesnt wanna feel unhappy LOL

  • @ScaredPiglet

Often, listening to stuff like this makes unhappy people feel better, because it's an expression of what they feel, instead of having it bottled up.

  • Anyone who DOES know music knows that this song is weak in chord structure, melody and lyrics. Ben Gibbard is a stupid showoff. Why is he holding that guitar and hitting those drums at the same time? There is no reason for it. Obviously we can see and more importantly HEAR that Ben Gibbard is trying to hard to be original.. and failing. Also he has no range and his sings like an absolute douche

  • @pianodillon You're a complete joke.

  • @pianodillon you are a moron

  • @pianodillon fuck off you troll

  • when the hell did john mcenroe get his own show?!

  • depressing, dull and boring

  • What a great lyrical trail. Beautiful song, beautifully done.

  • siiick

  • i've always known of death cab, but i was always a bigger postal service fan until one day i just played death cab on my ipod and i fell IN LOVE with them, i can't believe it took me such a long time.

  • his voice brings me to a happy place:D

  • @cocomono305 You to the abyss after you commit suicide from listening to this shit?

  • he's voice puts me in a happy place:D

  • great band

  • LOVE THIS SONG!

  • I Love This Song.

  • pure orgasmic :D

  • so epic

  • So freaking fantastic when Ben starts up on the guitar and Chris moves over to the keyboard. These guys are truly kickass musicians.

  • @fishwizard7 kickass musicians??? It's depressing crap with no melody. They have zero talent at creating any kind of catchy tune.

  • @ScaredPiglet You have no soul.

  • @CaitlyneSarah You have no brainpower. Probably no life either for you to like this depressing shit.

  • @ScaredPiglet You simply dont know music when you hear it.

  • @CaitlyneSarah You simple don't know how much of a bigot you are in hating on people for having different opinions.

  • @ScaredPiglet did you ever consider that they're not going for catchy shit?! they're trying to create something better

  • @kieranlabbe97 You mean depressing is better than catchy? You must be suicidally depressed to prefer being depressed over happy.

  • @ScaredPiglet The fact that you said music needs a catchy tune for it to be good is mind blowing. That is what top 40 shit is for. If you want real lyrics, and real music, you listen to these guys. It's all in opinion. Stop fucking telling people what you think is right and keep your damn opinions to yourself if you can't respect others.

  • @jakeXtehXripper Your cussing and witless hate tell me enough about you that I'm sure glad I'm not you. Creepy losers like you prefer this depressing shit over real music which is supposed to make the listener happy, not wanna kill yourself.

  • @ScaredPiglet Your complete disregard for other opinions and taste make me glad I'm not you. And music isn't meant to make only happy feelings, It is meant to arouse emotion according to the listener. I feel perfectly happy listening to this.

  • @jakeXtehXripper Read your own rant to realize how hypocritical you are. You are hating on me cause I don't like the depressing crap you listen to. You will forever be a miserable, depressed creep listening to depressing crap like this until you learn to accept other people's opinions.

The world has many people in it. Your hate will not end until you learn to get along with them.

  • @ScaredPiglet I get along with people with all different music tastes. I just hate it when someone insults a musician and can't just respect the musician and not like the music.

  • @ScaredPiglet I get along with people with all different tastes in music. I just hate it when someone insults the music and the musician and can't just respect the musician and just say this music is not my taste.

  • I must say, the first time I saw Chris take off his guitar, I thought he was just frustrated and wanted to leave the stage. Pardon my foolishness.

  • Hope you guys don't mind, but I added some annotations. Please consider donating to VOICES.

  • 2:23 That's why.

  • ahhhh yes. haha

  • wow realy shows what you know

  • dido

  • @mikeybabies

even if hes not playing it he may just not wna put it down becasue he would need it for the next song

  • @mikeybabies

    Multitaskingg.

  • man this song takes me back ... life is so much different then it was when i started listening to these guys :(

  • aah back when they were good

  • They've always been good. Still good.

  • Naa narrow stairs lacked the soul of this era and meet me on the equinoux is just terrible

  • Comment removed

  • Cool. Your opinion. I think they have yet to write a bad song.

  • yeah they are pretty awesome. Gibbards prob the most underrated lyricist ever

  • this band - DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE should most def. continue to make magic! They are incredible and are masters of their art.... I've heard far more depressing music! their music is emotive and beautiful!!!

  • wow, how long did the John Mac show last? Total Bomb.

Anywhoo, this song, though good, is about the most depressing thing. I wish this band would stop making records. They peaked with "movie script ending."

  • It's funny, but Jason McGerr even said that he didn't know there was a John McEnroe show until they heard they'd be playing on it.

And what do you mean? "Transatlanticism", "Plans", "Narrow Stairs", and "The Open Door" are all awesome.

  • amazing

  • this makes me horny

  • MCENROE :D

  • I'm seeing them tonight in Reno :]]]

  • Lucky.. Before I die, I must see this band!

  • "emotion through its lack of emotion"

That is what Death is About :] Love 'em.

  • Aahahahaha!!! If youre calling this band emo, obviously you dont know what theyre about and havent lived a quality life with some form of realism and art....Soo go and search metalica or slayer or some other dumbass band with lyrics that dont mean shit.

  • Metallica lyrics are actually fairly diverse in many songs. In fact, Hetfield is known to cry onstage during Bleeding Me because its about his alcoholism and how it affected his family and alienated so many people in his life. The Unforgiven Trilogy is a set of songs about a man who does terrible things for acceptance and drags others down with him. I love Death Cab and they're amazing, but grow up and don't trash on other bands that you don't know anything about. Makes you look ignorant.

  • Ignorance is bliss :D

  • death cab is anything BUT emo.

they are amazing, and emo music is what is wrong this the world right now

  • i love this songg!

  • OK to any one thinking hes playing a G&L is wrong. THIS IS A 72 OR 74 Fender thinline tele. if you know anyting about g&l is the shape of the headstocks and that for any semihollow asat (their version of the tele) they dont use that pickguard shape and yes i would know, i myself have an asat special.

  • this isn't a thinline, unless theres a type of thinline without F-holes?

  • Its like a G&L ASAT or something. Made by Leo Fender but not Fender...

  • It's interesting to me, the amount of speculation that's going into this when the Fender logo is quite visible and legible at 0:38 (pause and see). Furthermore, the F-holes are clearly visible at 0:40 and 0:41, making it unquestionably some issue of the Fender Telecaster Thinline. Glad to be of service.

  • its a thinline, the holes are just tough to see... its a 72 thinline i think.. probably made in Japan..

  • by my eye it looks like a proper vintage telecaster definitely 70's, but fenders had a ton of reissues

  • The holes are definitely there, it's just hard to see them.

  • mcenroe had a show? lol

  • thats what im saying.

  • they are good band with much possibility

  • love the keyboard in this song

  • top quality

  • such a great song!

  • this is the Ben that I miss... he just doesn't even look like him anymore.

  • at least he sounds the same

  • Unsubstantiated rumors claim that he's stopped drinking, which is the cause of all the weight loss. As for the long hair, maybe Zooey likes it?

  • Love this song..

  • i hate people who say they're emo...theyre not...theyre quite unique.

  • they really are..the lyrics are so deep and meaningful!!! In my opinion they have totally revolutionized the indie music industry (eventhough they aren't really indie anymo...)

  • People call them emo just because they don't understand the lyrics and the meanings. The band is great, just how they sing and the beats, really wonderful.

  • they will probably never come to the philippines

  • Comment removed

  • they will probably never come too liverpool :(

  • ughh, i want to see them so badly!

does anyone know if they're coming to chicago sometime soon?

  • They played Chicago a few weeks ago.

  • I just saw them two weeks ago. They are amazing live.

  • I'm seeing them on May 4th. It's gonna be so awesome.

  • Im so desperately jealous ]= I need to see them. Now.

  • Seriously...I've been wanting to see them for so long. I really would've loved to see them when no one knew who they were. It just would've been cool to be able to hang with them and stuff.

  • Samee. Ah yeah that wouldve been ace, at like a really small, intimate show as well. Gosshh

  • im seeing these guys on the 24th. so pumped

  • why are you even talking about these inferior bands in the presence of Death Cab For Cutie. haha

  • Anyone know what kind of Tele Ben is playing?

  • Death Cab For Cutie!

Amazing band, I'll always love them.

    ^_^

  • i'm really glad a new argument started on this video. lets keep the tradition alive as long as possible.

  • I agree 100%

Death Cab have only ever gotten better and better (whilst being good in the first place. Something About Airplanes had some great tracks on it). Whereas Coldplay, they gradually got worse until they're horrid to listen too (Did you see them preform Viva La Vida at the Grammys? It was terrible)

  • Oh i thought you were saying Radiohead were garbage which is enough to make me flip.

Coldplay though... My opinion of them is that they used to have some good songs (The Scientist) but now they do indeed suck (Viva La Vida is a terrible song in my opinion)

Just to keep this in line with Death Cab, i'd definetly rate them up above Coldplay. (obviously)

  • I wasn't saying Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay are under-rated, i was saying The Veils are under-rated. And you can hardly call Radiohead garbage considering the impact they've had upon modern music.

Not that it has anything to do with Death Cab for Cutie..

  • fender '72 thinline tele with dual humbuckers. got one myself.

  • No its not,

its a Fender classic series 72 telecaster.

  • Comment removed

  • i love death cab for cutie so much, this song reminds me so much of summer 08..

  • wow summer of 08? This song reminds me of a much longer time ago than that >.> Good to see it's still doing the same thing for people nowadays.

  • they're a really good band and they're amazing live! i love death cab for cutie :)

  • Wow, they're pretty incredible live!

  • ben gibbard would be really good at rock band.

  • lmaooo!

  • lol.

  • what kind of guitar is ben using? it looks like a modded tele to me..but i cant tell. the headstock looks fender

  • okay, i guess the question is, what kind of tele is it

  • i think it's a tele custom?

  • it's a fender telecaster thinline. semi-hollow body, pretty nice.

  • its a g&l asat

better than a fender in my opinion...

if yur a serious player ceck g&l out

  • dude, that's definitely a tele thin line.

  • go to dcfc websight and it tells what he plays

there are tons of artists who appear to play fenders but are really playing g&L

  • no, it's definitely a fender. pause it around 3:00 and you can see it on the headstock.

  • Comment removed

  • It is a G and L. I've seen them live twice. Also, look at their website.

  • No, It's definitely a Fender, the G&L headstock is pointier.

Seeing them live doesnt mean anything, please go Google '1972 Thinline Telecaster," the image you'll see will be the guitar he is playing.

Please educate yourself before you go around calling people "tools" and making yourself look idiotic.

  • Wow you're dumb. I know for a fact it's a G and L. Nice comment of the education though! :) Now go back to community college and write some emo songs.

  • correct - bear in mind this is an older clip - they use G&L heaps now, but this is definately thinline fender

  • PeaceL0veEmpathy:

i wasn't saying that they DON'T use g&l but the question that started this ridiculous argument was about the guitar in this specific video. also calling people tools isn't very christian of you, so maybe i should be asking you if you "got god?". sorry to cut this short but i have to get back to my community college. take care.

  • Well i'm glad someone enjoyed my story!! Hahaha, but yeah, i do the same on the piano! If you get bored you sit down at the piano with headphones and figure out how to play the songs, it makes for an awesome way to pass the time haha. Some fun and easy songs of theirs to play are like Passenger Seat and Different Names For The Same Thing. Title and registration sounds kinda cool on the piano too haha

  • They're INCREDIBLE live btw, haha.

I drove a few hours and saw them in Kansas City, they were absolutely EPIC!!!! They're my all-time favorite band. They played for a solid two hours of pure awesomicity but they didn't play my favorite song (which is Styrofoam Plates) in the set and i was super bummed. But then they came out for the encore and it was the first song they played, best day of my life hahaha.

Well.... i'm glad i told that near pointless story to a total stranger......

  • Why are there so many negatives on this comment? It's so true.

I'm sure he's nervous cause he's drumming when he doesn't on the album.

    -K

  • why is everyone puttin' you down?

    i agree.

  • There are some amazing bands out right now, you just have to filter through so much crap, especially on the radio in my area. DCFC, Arcade Fire etc. are wonderful, and you will never hear them on the radio. You'll hear every clone rock band in the world, but nothing significant. This is a good time for music that is different, and it is getting better all the time.

  • NPR had arcade fire on the top something albums of 2008 or something along those lines

    i was happy

  • There are more good bands out there than you think, Radiohead, Muse, The Killers, Coldplay.. The Veils are one of the most underated bands i've heard of, and of course, Death Cab for Cutie, who are highly underated as song writers in my opinion.

  • best band of the decade

  • you must not listen to very much music than

  • you just did!

  • lol, but its just not the same.

    and never will be

  • rad song and cool stuff, that shag and glasses look KILLS me. rad though i liked this song alot, sounds good live too
