The catch is students are divided at a very young age in to three tiers of schooling, which affects their advancement in society. Actually I am an American living in Europe at the Moment in Britain. The National Health Service is free, the trade off is a waiting period that goes from most needed to least needed. Quality is much lower at most European colleges, unless you get into one of the top schools. What the real problem is is the Federal Reserve System (check out the documentary Money Masters). Did you know the Fed is help by private investors? They then print the US money, with no backing i might add, and charge an interest for its use (aka inflation). Also, when ingredients get scarce, they become more expensive and they have to raise the prices. So there's not just *one* reason prices go up.
