SOOOO magnificent! I can almost picture myself being brought back a hundred years, standing at a corner overlooking the the imperial grand proceedings of the manchu dynasty..
Ryuichi Sakamoto is a genius. I love the track from 0:55. Props to David Byrne for also contributing greatly to a wonderful soundtrack to a great movie.
since the 1st time I've wacthed this movie when I was only 13 years old...I've fascinated by the whole package of this movie. Not easy at that time to find the record in my country...back. Finally got that so many after while doing college in Australia. Ryuichi Sakamoto & David Bryne is genius and Bertolucci was excellent. When I went to Forbidden City in 1995..I feel so impressed...so grand..just like the movie.
"OPEN THE DOOR!!!!" How sad when you're trapped in your own paradise.... But htat doesn't make it a paradise does it? R.I.P. Pu Yi, you finally are free.
Mongolia was under Manchurian invasion for 2 hundred years, and Manchurian emperor gave a fancy crown and coat made up of fur and pearl and etc... Mongolian King Bogd had fancy summar palace winter palace, had a zoo that had even elephant and lions. amazing isn't it. But seeing this movie is depressing, I love this movie. The song really fits the movie.
For Puyi Ashingoro, the Last Emperor of China...one wonders how he survived the pain of the life and times he lived. Anyway, Ryuichi Sakamoto, a great musician, the pride of Japan seems to know. Ironic isn't it...
It is still my favorite music to play... Fantastic peace of work!!!! I will listen to it over and over.... And play it....
These violins... and cellos....

I recall very well this melody: In 1992 a Mexican bank called Banco Mexicano (now Banco Santander Serfin) used it like jingle in its television spots.
Greetings from MX.

I like all the music in The Last Emperor so much that I taped the musical score directly from a betamax tape - can you believe that?

Wow, really?
wouldn't it be easier to buy a copy online and download it?

Many Japanese people have a better understanding of Chinese history than most of Chinese people, that is really sad.
很多日本人比中國人更了解他們自己的歷史,這真令人感到悲哀。
