No service means it has no GSM connection. However, it does have wifi connection according to the blue bars in the statusbar, just like the 3GS.

Look at the top left corner (the status bar)

As you can see, both are running on wi-fi as the symbol is the three wireless network bars. If the 3G IPHONE was running on the 3G NETWORK, it would say 3G in place of the wireless network bars.

why would you upgrade in December when you know there will be a new iphone comming next june/july that most likely have more significant changes then the 3gs has over the 3g. You are going to have a phone for 6 months and then a new one comes out and you wont be able to upgrade for another 2 years.

Because that's the way the YouTube app has been built, in order to save cellular bandwidth it detects whenever you are under 3G or WiFi and gives you a better quality video.

The connection isn't what is being tested here. The connections are the same. Rendering speed is what is being tested.

Whoa, it is almost twice as fast (like the claim). Looks like the 3G S took about 6 seconds, and the 3G took nearly 12. This will really help on pages where the 3G took 40 seconds, a 20 second cut is huge.

the old 3G doesn't have any cell service. look at the "radio wave" logo. both are on WiFi. Cell Strength isn't even an issue.
