I think the initial Versalife infiltration and the follow up break in to the lower labs is where DX peaks in gameplay and after that it starts to go a bit downhill. Up until this point there was a lot of interaction with regular civilians and the areas are based around civilian or commercial sectors but after Hong Kong it quickly becomes focused on pure combat missions at military bases.
@frankDPW so true. best game ever made. and the funniest thing is deus ex was released on 1cd. if i look at all the games that come out nowadays... 15gb is nothing unusual. and they normaly dont even last half of the time you were playing deus ex
One of the best levels in Deus Ex! Music for this level was just... so.... well... appropriate! Words don't it justice, it's just that awesome feeling.
I love when this song plays and you look out the window behind the receptionist and realize how big this building is and see the people walking in Hong Kong.
yes I played it through again recently (addict) this time with shifter mod installed carried the dead body of Louis Pan into reception - really funny - everyone drew their weapons and looked non-plussed I was prepared to die (quik save first) but no-one shot me! dumped Louis on the counter and business as usual! (killed em all)
@wcdornez Shifter mod changes some things - removes glitches which were like cheats but gives you skill points for kills and extra points for headshots - to balance makes your opponents more powerful too - there are new weapons the coolest of which IMHO is 'Lo Bruto' -Jo Jo Fines modified stealth pistol but if you're a rifle player lots of cool stuff there too - some new augs introduced for best results play 'unrealistic' (right or shift click on the menu)
@leslondon Sounds so fucking cool. I am always up for more extras, especially for a game such as Deus Ex. Where the fuck can I download something so awesome as the shifter mod for Deus Ex?
I wish we could get a kind of hybrid between DX and Syndicate Wars. Set in future where ruthless mega corps have taken over and they employ armies of high tech mercs to fight between each other.
@rlilewis If you don't mind graphics, which I don't believe you do since you play Deus Ex and Syndicate Wars, you might want to try Shadowrun for the Sega Genesis, it has that very same premise you're asking for and it's one of the best cyberpunk games there is.
When you hear all these songs and they switch every so and so seconds (adjusting to keep it fresh-- what's that called?) it evokes a particular feeling. I love how this song sounds formidable one second and then "optimistic" the next.
Every "part" to me can be named. Example: 0:00 / 0:36 "Under the radar", 0:37 / 1:02 "Welcome to Versalife", 0:03 / 0:27 "World of Tomorrow". Maybe, I give things too much credit or have too much time on my hands, or maybe that's what makes some songs great.
Nah you don't have too much time. I completely agree. This kind of music is part of the total emersion that I love about this game. Masterpiece. The game and the music. You feel as if you're actually JC breaking in and sneaking around. It's an insane feeling.
@Sssagaman Oh I know!! I wish I could re-live the first time I played Deus Ex. A feeling like none other. And yeah the graphics do give a sence of vagueness that just works with the whole game. I'm really curious as to how DX3 will be. But nothing will ever compete with this one!
The Deus Ex soundtrack does such an amazing job of relating to the environment, characters, and storyline situation. Versalife is one of my favorite tracks in the game just because it fits perfectly into the level.
When I first heard this song, the first thing that popped into my head was "slick corporate espionage action" and that's what I got out of this mission. It was awesome that both the music and gameplay combined into one truly great experience. You generally don't get that from many games nowadays
When I played DX the first time I was 15 yrs old and I wanted to be an employee in a company liek Versalife sitting in a dark office behind a computer working while this song is played in the background. Now I'm a programmer in a big company sitting in a dark office and this song is played on my iPod. =)
so your life's goal was to emulate a hapless computer tech, who was purposely infected with a deadly virus btw, who worked for the front of a nihilistic global conspiracy whose aim is to take over the world and make its leader a god? Fascinating. O.o
@1poiuztrewq2 Why would you dream of being in a massive faceless multinational corporation slaving away at a cubicle for 10 hours a day? What the fuck is wrong with you?
@1poiuztrewq2 Nice all is left is a guy with an exclusive trench coat walking around with shade, Bullet proof vest and trouser (which many have never notice) and 'blue tattooed face. Asking you a question, you starting companying about your snob-ish boss wishing him dead and to you an unknown elevator your not aloud access to. xD
@1poiuztrewq2 This game pretty much inspired me to do something in bioengineering. I dropped photography (which I came 1st twice in a row) and took up all science topics. I am now 1st in three of them.
Versalife and the Labs are the best fun levels in this game you can get away with murder! releasing the greasels and the bum is great but enticing the grays out is awesome!
yeah, i slaughtered all the scientists with the dragons tooth, I left only the assistant ladies, the receptionist and the programmers alive. didnt feel a twinge of guild, they were all bastards.
This song gives me goosebumps as I remember my 1st. . .and all the way up to the 6th time through this game. Definately my favorite game of ALL-TIME!
I love how it ties in everything about Extraterrestrials, nanotechnology, NWO, and Mega corporations. Theorettically, the storyline, although conspiracy theory in nature, is very possible - but not as possible to prove. LOVE THIS GAME!!
