  • Shouldn't he have had the strap around his neck? lol

  • when i saw the pictures my jaw dropped to the floor

  • Can I please ask WHERE exactly this location is? It's SO PLEASANT.

  • Some lucky bastards going to find that filter

  • Karl. Could you please, please tell me where I can buy a square polarising filter? I have looked everywhere!!! All circular :( I have an adapter ring and holder for cokin p series.

  • @tresflip amazon?

    lol

  • gotta get some rubber boots guy..

  • Boring suggestion I know, but if you are in water, wear sandles. A bit nerdy, but it gives more grip and stops your feet getting hurt.

  • love the picturee O_O!

  • Bear Grylls of photography.

  • I could seriously watch thses videos all day!! wish i had this knowledge and eye for a shot! and the time to do it!

  • where is that? ima find that filter!

  • that cracked me up when he dropped the polarizing filter!

I know how you feel, Karl

  • I'm amazed by the places you find to shoot your photos.

  • Losing £90 of polarizing filter, I would have been crowned king of Tourette. Cool videos.

  • Great shots! Was that the "Lee Filter System and filters"

  • I would be very angry if that happened to one of my filters. And mine isn't has expensive as that one! I'm trying to find a good ND filter with attach system, but I don't want any vignetting, I have a Nikon AF-S VR DX 18-55mm (52mm diameter) but don't know what should I buy!

  • Hardcore! can't argue with the results, fantastic! I'd be nervous as hell that I'd slip on a rock and drop the camera in the water, LOL.

  • I like the post, Bear Grylls of photography. The guy can take a tin can as a light reflector, install a candle lit by rubbing two sticks together, well, you get the picture....well, he'd get the picture.

  • Incrediable!

  • At the beginning when he was walking on the rocks and did not put the belt of the camera behind his neck, it was so painful to watch!! I thought he might drop it XD

  • Nice vid.. Thanks man!.. is that the Lee Filters you're using??....

  • U r really lucky .....its just ur filter .. not ur camera

  • I lihek yo vidyas... cheea may!

  • Your polariser is more expensive than my 50mm f/1.8 lens

  • 6:16 So you have not one but two cameramen with you! Great video and pictures as always.

  • What type of tripod head would you reccomend for landscape photography?

  • I love that british accent ;) :D

Really great tips, I've just orderer the cokin P filter system with 3 grad nd filters and one ND filter...hope for good results ;)

And I especially hope for more good videos like this ! ;)

  • Look his face at 6:24! ahhahah

  • Thanks for the samples of your work. Very well done. That filter system could use a spigot screw system to secure the plates in place. Relying on friction alone looks like the problem.

  • lol... love how he gives tips and then reminds us that the water is freeeeezing :D

    good work!

  • You're a brave man, taking a 1D into a river.

  • @jamessfromtx he's the bear grylls of photography

  • I've looked at a lot of these online teachers and this guy is the best. He is a fantastic photographer and his advice is very effective.

  • You could use another polarizing filter to cut through the reflection of the warer and look for it.

  • I smashed my lee CPL the other month too! all out of stock around the world till 4am this morning >< buy buy buy! $200 gone

  • Wow, haha. My circular polarizing filter cot $6.00 US...

  • @TraxxasRustlerKing cheap filters will make the picture look less sharp and bad color cast.

  • Sorry about your filter man, I felt that one in my groin

  • If he dropped the camera it would have broke the river

  • Hey, I'm new digital to photography. Just wandering what aputure and iso you're using with a 4 - 6 second shutter speed in daylight?

Or if anyone else knows, I really appreciate help with all this.

    Thanks

  • @williamblakeism i'm not sure but he must have used a very small aperture to get very deep depth of field and in order to compensate for the loss of light, the shutter speed needs to be decreased. probably the iso is 100. and don't forget that although it's daylight, a lot of shadows are in the scene and he is using a polarizer so i think this is how he managed to use a very slow shutter speed. that's what i think but then i might be wrong.

  • he talks like peter lik

  • hey could u tell me where this spot is please?

  • 90 quid!!!!! i would dive for it

  • Amazing video.. you got really good shots! sorry for the loss..

  • thanks for tips karl! learn a lot from your videos!

  • dude ur nuts to trust that tripod with ur camera in a river ... but awesome shots thanks for the tips

  • I`M sorry mate for the filter loss, i like all your tips, great job.... thanks...

  • when utilizing the tripod in free-running water such as this, how does the current of the rapids effect vibration on tripod/camera? long exposure effect?

  • opps :)

  • Karl I bought two Hoya ND filters of Ebay ND4+ND8 and its really bad. They are giving me a colour casts. Can you tell me where to buy good ones from please? I am looking to get a 9 or 10 stop 72mm.

    Paul

  • omg i keep thinking hes going to drop the camera O.o

  • this is a very good video, lovely idea, well done again Karl, Brian Geoghean

  • Polarizing "holder"?? Ha ha ha

  • Water boots? Great video !

  • Didn't you say the water was freezing cold? I cant believe you actually stayed in there for that long to take several pictures. True photographer! respect to you sir.

  • Great shots, what's with the erie music?.

  • Great photos mate! I feel sorry for your loss :(

  • Awesome video! you explained a lot and entertained me while you did it :) job well done...I love this kind of photography...

  • great video! Love the way you just jump in the elements to get your shots :) Thumps up!

  • Thats why you want the screw-on filter type lol

  • Sometimes it's safer to not use the strap.

  • It would suck to drop your 1D in the drink, not using your neck strap

  • Sorry 4 ur filter!!!

  • i adore your work Karl but i dont have money to afford a dslr and it makes me a bit angry you walk in the water (wet stones etc) with a 2000 dollar camera? Show a lil respect to your wievers man.

  • Use the strap man!! LOL Jeez

  • 7:29 - looks like you left your tripod there as well.

    ;-)

  • sorry for your filter again man

  • Does anyone know which of his videos this clip is from? Ive watched 4 of his dvd's, but never came across this clip.

  • dont drop the camera lol xD put the neckstrap arround ur neck :P

  • 6:18 you fail here XD

  • serious to god like, why dont these people reply to any comments or queries?

  • Brilliant video's! For god sake buy some waders! Cheaper than polarizing filters and have plenty of grip, we do not want to see you slip and your camera go under lol.

  • he forgot his tripod 7:28 ^^

  • He's not using the strap!!!!!

  • @PSEvangelist I know. 1 drop and 2000.00 down the drain! :)

  • Karl, what tripod u use?

  • And thats why i use screw-on filters :)

  • i like how he walks away at the end with his 1d and tripod still sitting in the woods. : P

  • Literally down the drain

  • What filter strength were you using there? 2 stop?

  • You have a similarity with the actor Stephen Graham playing the character name "Combo" from the movie This is England. hehe.

Anyway, I love all your videos and your photos. Great tutorials, great skills, and great encouragement..! Cheers..! =)

  • this is the reason that i have an screw CPL , more than one nd fillter foul from my filter shoe...........fuck!

  • That made me so nervous when you were crouching in the water with the camera, your videos really help tho :)

  • Great video, as usual. As regards the filter... been there, done that... know the pain of it.

  • great videos. I seen your still lifes in the November issue of Digital SLR photography. the Rocquette Cider image is amazing

  • Might want to invest in a set of fishing waders if you are in and out of water alot. It will help keep your mind off the cold, and on your photos.

  • THANK you carl.

  • lol feel sorry for you, although i dropped a flipping 600 quid super wide angle 10-20 mm lens in the sea the other day, stupid mistake of mine, i suppose we learn from these things tho lol

  • Omg, :D I wish you were my dad so youd teach me all these stuff.

  • That is a good shot at 2.26 looking up the hill with the large rocks and water in foreground as an added interest.

  • what is the song called..i mean, in the very beginning

i know it but i've no idea where it is from

  • Hi Karl, fantastic shots, and a really great tutorial. Sorry about the polarizing filter...ooops! Quick question, what grad of ND filter would you recommend, or were you using. I'm starting to try with a few flat no grad ND filters, but I think i've been a bit quick to buy 2,4 & 8........ah they were cheap (er if they end up gathering dust I'd guess thats a mute point!) Paul. :0)

  • anyone know where to buy those filters? Please let me know!

  • feeling very sad for the filter :-(.You have some amazing video for learning

    Thanks God,that I found you.......keep going!

  • Excellent video, and some good tips and inspiration! Thanks

  • $h*%!!!! a chuss los ma PPPolharizn Fil 'er!!!

I'm sorry for the loss man, I really feel your pain. I'd be pissed off too especially after putting in all that effort. Good thing it wasn't the Camera that dropped

  • perfect as usual karl..bravo..

  • Great location and tutorial. i'm sorry for the filter. :)

water on pic. seems too white maybe.

  • Karl what another excellent teaching video. You give a lot of great ideas to get the most out of each photo opportunity. I applaude your enthusiam. Keep the vid's coming. Nice job.

  • awesome pictures. great tutorial

  • That is a fairytale location, Karl. Could you to say me the name ? please. You produce a marvelous work also you are really, really passionate..That is nice ! Sorry, to hearing about your polarizer filter, hehe I lost my Lee kit filters too in the water movement, BAD. Great video, pleasant to follow that !

    Thank you

  • DuDe if i had this camera and `ill get in the water i`ll totally use the neckstrap !!

  • @0MuD you better wrap the neckstrap on your arm, you can't drop the camera this way, but if you slip and fall into the water, you can keep your hand with the camera at the air. If the neckstrap will be on your nec ...

  • @Imrooot

ummm why wouldnt i wear it on my neck !?

  • @0MuD You can slip and fall into the water, and camera's neckstrap on your neck will not let you to keep your camera away from the water. But when you wrap the neckstrap over your hand, you have good chances to save your camera, you just need to keep your right hand with the camera away from the water.

  • @Imrooot thxx 4 explaining it 2 me =)

  • he's like the bear grylls of photography

  • @JackBasnight YEAH! :D

  • @JackBasnight so im not the only one that gets reminded of man vs. wild when i watch his videos!

  • Neckstrap...!

  • @iAteUrCookies

Not... put the strap around your hand, so if u fall, u can keep the Camera away from the water. :)

  • Great Shots!

  • Great vid. Why didn't you use an angle finder for your low shots?

  • What is that tripod and where can I get one? I just love it!

  • why not use rubber boots?

  • nice, please keep making videos, even inspires pros to go out shooting

  • I love your vids

  • Nice shots Karl!

To bad for the second filter loss :p

  • Realy good Job. Awesome Pictures and Results... realy Like your Fotos and Videos about them!!! Please Continue your work so good as possible without your Polarizing Filter =)

    LoG Tony from Germany

  • Thank you for another 5 strars video.

  • Man, you're the best!

I don't wanna be like Mike, rather Karl, when i grow up...

You know what your talking about and very humble at it....

May God bless you much, sir...

  • lol @ 6:20

  • Beautiful !

  • Beautiful work mate, as always!

    too bad about the filters

  • 6:17 - Oh God...I knew something was bound to happen to our gear....I feel your pain mate : (

  • I swear to God, everytime I see a camera near the water, my heart speeds up a bit and I get really nervous....lol

  • i shouldn't laugh, but thats 2 filters in 2 videos :D

  • Thanks Karl....another great vid on how you get the shots you do. I'm always a little hesitant to get my feet and gear wet, but watching you do it builds my confidence. Been trying to pick up some Lee filters and holders but they have been out of stock for quite awhile now....what's up with that? Sorry about your polarizer, what a bummer. I would have cried, but it could have been worse. Keep up that great tutorials they really are inspiring~ Aloha~

  • Why do you use those types of filters rather than the screw on lens ones?

  • @My6T1 I think its because the screw on graduated ND's are not very good because you cant adjust the graduated part, its always bang in the middle which is silly, and to have a screw on polarizer and the slide in filters could cause vignetting, and maybe even see the filter holder in the photo. Probably a lot easier too. Not as much screwing on and off of filters to adjust things.

  • Awesome.

  • Good Stuff Man, Keep It up

  • Amazing work. I'm very sorry about polarizer...

  • question: do you use a bit of photoshop on your pictures?

  • Great stuff! Love your techniques.

  • such aan amayzing place ... and you are such a great teacher .. thank god i found yoou

  • woww I got so nervous with the camera and the tripod on the water! hahah great job! amazing

  • Too bad about the polarizer...beautiful images and good tips!

  • Could you kindly share the info about the place? Where can I find this beautiful place?

  • would a canon rebel xsi be able to capture such a photo.

  • @eduardolopez is not only the camera that makes the shot, the lens and the filters are more important.

  • oh man..i feel bad about the polarizer filter....but your shots that youve just taken are spectacular..amazing..

  • at least you still have your camera.
