yeah the mahavishnu album is a pretty good fusion album but I much prefer weather report's heavy weather. to me, john mclaughlin's playing is too fast and abrasive. jaco pastorius is far more interesting to listen to.
My english teacher borrowed me Fresh fruit & rotten vegetables when I was like 10 years old; best english lesson he ever taught me. I never gave it back.
You should totally do this weekly, or at least once a month. Doesn't even have to be debut albums, just random songs from any decade/genre you want to recommend. :)
how the f*ck have i never heard of Squarepusher and never gave Mahavishnu Orchestra a chance?? I just absolutely love the two of them! thanks anthony! especially MO are exactly what i was looking for musically at the moment.
and the last few words at the end of your video are words to the wise: "screw genre, screw what you already think you like, check them out"
i would subscribe (if i hadn't already done so) just for that sentence. (=
With seeing pablo honey by radiohead in this video. It just made me want to say that it would have to be my top one favourite album by radiohead but also maybe behind the bends :)
best debut album of all time is In the Court of the Crimson King for me. Good call on the DK and Ulver suggestions :) I've actually never heard the Squarepusher debut, should hear that, thanks! :)
Love Ulver and Bergtatt is probably their best album next to maybe Blood Inside. How many bands can do a complete 180 with their sound and be just as good? Ulver is definitely one.
Wooow no Tribe is NYC. And I quote "If the Quest don't look good, then Queens won't look good. But since the sounds are universal, New York won't look good"
@coughlintm A Tribe Called Quest is from New York "bro". Harlem & Jamaica, Queens to be exact. Don't be trying to correct people if you don't know the facts yourself. Makes you look dumb.
You should get a ventrilaquist doll. I think it would be funny to see a ventrilaquist speaking opinions on album reviews from the mainstream review stand point, and then seeing Cuchesta choking him out like Bart Simpson when he disagrees.
Can you review the band Katabasis? (unsigned death metal band). The Demo is simply titled '2011 Demo'. You can find it for free on bandcamp via katabasis.bandcamp.com
Anthony, I would like to hear your opinion on the latest Lady Gaga album. Does it live up to the hype? Could it be referred to as her magnum opus? Or does it feel like a flop?
@LaLaGrunge Did I say that Black Moon is a bad rap group?I was just saying that Illmatic and 36 Chambers were a lot better debut albums. Also how does my comment sound hipster-like?Many people who listen to rap still think to this day that there isn't a better album released than Illmatic.
@LaLaGrunge That is really ironic considering your post was WAYYY more hipster-like than Hustlerlt84's. Ya know, telling someone to "learn your hip hop" and being a condescending douchebag for no reason.
@Illmatic1988 Nah, I think not. Black Moon was had already garnered recognition at the time for that record. It influenced guys like Biggie and Mobb Deep. I had that fuckin album in the mid-90s growing up with the genre. i remember.
It was only until about a decade ago where hipsters acknowledged that hip-hop was a genre that deserved attention and soon enough, began dickriding Wu Tang Clan, Nas, MF Doom and Jay Dee. I just got a kick out of Hustlers' post and the nas/wu-tang faction bs.
Overall I am feeling a strong 5 to a light 6. the rap was dece for rap. punk = meh. ulver was meh as well and the squarepusher track was like spastic jazzy flatulents. The MO was pretty sweet tho. I should give them more of a look see.
If you are not aware of it, Anthony. The new Ulver album is not black metal like Bergtatt (if that is the reason for not reviewing it). Because, you know, they did stop playing BM in the late 90s. They have only made two BM albums :)
You should DEFINITELY review the debut album by a band called zeus. the album is called say us. its very good. My friend took me to see hobo with a shotgun..... i did not know what grind house was..... end of story.
Elliott Smith's Roman Candle, Biggie's Ready to Die, Boards of Canada's Music Has the Right to Children, Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 85-92, Sublime's 40 oz. to Freedom.

Kind of funny if one remember that they started out as black metal. Anyway, it's pronounced "berg tat", in two syllables. The word is pretty common in norwegian language, but I guess it initially derives from folklore when someone was captured and taken into the mountain.

"Ulver" is actually scandinavian for "Wolfs".
The Album, Bergtatt, directly translated means "Mountain Taken" or "Taken by the Mountain".
Finally the track listed in the description, "Ind i Fjeldkammrene", translates to "Into the Mountain Chambers".
Also, am I wrong in assumeing it's a Danish band?
