  • i disagree about the Japanese through anime the way you where speaking was wrong but also you need to have common sense. you cant learn to speak from anime but you it can still help you when i started Japanese i knew very little but because of anime i was comfortable with the language already so it is easier for me to learn. if you love anime don't stop watching just try a diffident kind of anime like clannad

  • It should be a PDF file

  • I literally started my Japanese journey this past week. So far I've been reading/ studying the book by James W. Heisig "Remembering the Kanji." This is literally my third day, and I've already learned the first 50.^_^ So if anyone is having trouble with the Kanji, I suggest giving this book a try.

I'm not sure of the price, but that doesn't matter because I found it online for free.(")(^_^)(") just google the title and it'll be the 3rd choice. Hope this helps.

  • I've been studying on my own for about a year, and here is my progress: I know around 400 words, 16 - 20 kanji (I try to avoid it till last), obviously all the kana, and basic/intermediate grammar, and remember, this is ALL from self study with the help of the internet, and a dictionary. I'd say that's pretty good. My goal is to reach 1000 words all in memory, before I begin kanji. It only makes sense, since a Japanese child already knows how to talk before they learn kanji in first grade.

  • @Ruxify 1 technique I have, is whenever I learn a new word, I write it down on a paper in kana, with it's meaning. Then I regularly go back and look at the words and I usually memorize them quickly now. I calculated that if I were to learn 10 words a day for about 2 1/2 months, I'd reach my goal of 1000 words. That sounds like a lot, but I am able to do it in about an hour or less.

  • Well said.

  • Reality body check!

  • "they're not the same" is speaking lightly about differences. lolol. THey leave so many words out of phrases it's hard to translate sometimes :( Can be comical ^,^ I agree though, if you listen to anime vs live JPNese TV its VERY different. I have realy enjoyed and actually gotten a lot out of watching JPNese Dramas lately instead of anime and it's helped me get a feel for conversational JPNese and pick up a few kinna trendy phrases that you don't find in the dictionary. hehe!

  • I completely agree! :) I am learning Japanese and I love the language so far. I noticed a lot of incorrect subtitling in animes, so I switched to live action. I also plan to take classes and study abroad- so excited! (any tips for getting scholarships? ) I agree about the legitimate reason too, although it began with anime, I soon started learning about the language, culture, food etc. and I fell in love with all of it. Now I'm studying Education and I hope to teach in Japan for a while.

  • Thanks for the video!

I'm learning because I have to. It's hard, but also sort of fun. Self-taught, for the most part, as the schools won't let me take a course since I have japanese citizenship.

  • Very nice. I agree. I teach Japanese here in Tokyo. You said that people in Japan do not speak like anime. I was laughing so hard. My students are halfs. They all talk like that! I have to correct them and get them to change their way. I LOVED your example!!! I will show this to my students.

  • Screw you man. People don't need to have quote unquote "legitimate reasons to learn foreign languages. We have the freedom to do whatever the hell we want. A buddy of mine learned English from watching the Simpsons and WWF. He's now on Microsoft's Applied Sciences team.

In this world there are two kinds of people: those who do as they should, and those who do as they choose.

    PS

    You look like Basshunter

  • I love your site! I do like anime but that's not the reason I am trying to learn Japanese-I like the Eng dubs (even tho quality does suffer) I am drawn to the Japanese culture and admire them. The only live show in Japanese that we get in the States is NINJA WARRIOR!! Anyway thanks for the input, look forward to more.

  • dobro govoris japanski..koliko godina ucis i gdje si stigao do sad sa samoucenjem..pozdrav

  • dutch flag!!!!!

    im form the netherlands :D

  • Great video.. and btw, you have a super sexy voice! Very soothing :)

  • My interest started with DBZ (yes, face palm all you want). I wanted to be able to draw those cool Japanese cartoons. Then I wanted to put those cool looking symbols in my drawings. Then I realized what I was writing probably didn't make sense, so I started wanting to learn the language. Then I got more interested in the language and culture. I've been "studying" for about 10 years now, I still suck, but I'm getting there. My goal is to be a Japanese-English translator. I still like anime though

  • The only difference now though is that I can tell when the subtitling group made mistakes. Heck, I've caught Disney mistranslating things, though I'm not sure if it was intentional or not.

  • LMAO @ 2:10 - 2:12

  • i wana learn cuz theres a good chance i could be moving there.... -.- i luv it but i mean... im not even close to fluent.. i only know like 3 or 4 phrases

  • Every weaboo in the world should see this. Thank you.

  • I must say, thank you for making this video. My first day of Japanese class in High School was basically what you just said, and a lot of really big anime fans sighed in discontent. I like anime and all that, but when I took Japanese, I found how amazing Japan's culture was and how it really suits my views on things, such as being polite and being modest. I hope this video really gets stuck in some more bullheaded people's heads so that they may learn Japanese correctly. :)

  • I want to learn Japanese b/c I'm half Japanese! I could care less about anime.

  • Respect for not fumbling your new language to the people you care about- good sense.

  • your hair reminds me of sebastian from black butler.

  • I'd honestly rather speak the language better than writing (but I want/need to get good at both). I found it interesting that self learning Japanese learners speak the language beter than reading the writing, and other way around for school tought learners! my whole Japanese learning has been self tought!

  • @deppressed1 t'as a joke good sir. Or more like a metaphor saying everyone sees things differently and in their own way. Cheer up depressed one!

  • @deppressed1 beauty is in the eyes of the beholder :)

  • I went to hit “Like” a second time after I saw the HKS shirt. Alas, I can only Like once…

  • @MrGrimR34p3r bwahahahhaha! fukkin love that shirt!

  • japanese girl friend (sorry bad at spelling) bad idea, dont get me whong (realy sorry) japanese girls are ok its just that the gramer that girls use could be different than boys use ( so I'm told ) that all if i hurt any japanese girls feelings extremly ( i need to spell better :( ) SORRY

  • so true about watching English subs with Japanese anime. have to construct the whole sentence all over anyways. plus what about Japanese slang and stuff? i mean that would kind of mess people up to! love the vids, and i subscribed... so i wont get the same comment you gave some one about "if you liked it you would have.." XD anywho thanks! i do love anime but i think it would help for wanting to learn culture. ^^

  • how did u start to learn japanese?

  • omg your so right for the reason to learn japanese

    anime and manga

    lol

i already understand alot of japanese

  • YOU WILL NEVER BE JAPANESE.. No matter how much you close ur eyes together and throw the Kawaii sign.. You sir, are a fucking disgrace to people like me ACTUALY learning the japanese language to work there and not treat the country like god damn Disney world.. You are the reason japanese people dislike gaijin and the "Japanese Only" signs at the restaurants in tokyo.. You are a fucking faggot.. Cut your hair and get a fucking life.. Anata wa hontou baka da ! motto otona ni nattara ne

  • @Rex2400

I am going to try to be as polite as I can. Go to cruxay's video that is called "Japanese Humility." If you had paid attention to ANYTHING he has said you would realize that he understands that he will never be Japanese. What exactly has he done to make you think he considers Japan any kind of Disney World? None of his videos lead me to believe that at all and he has a very good grasp on Japanese culture. Please do your research before opening your mouth and insulting people.

  • i don't want to ruin a conversation with japanese practice (with a lover) either :(

  • You have a very good presence and delivery in your video. Very easy to listen to. Kudos!

  • @Davetech23 thx :)

  • Comment removed

  • how long have you been studying nihongo?

  • @spacedead123 永年かな....

  • Hahahaha

    Funny video

  • Yeah finally someone actually breaks it down for ppl the SOV goes same for korean too or most asia. . PS i wish My Samsung tv came package with japanese and korean subs bc usually thats what watch. . .

  • omae its not bastard, it's only like saying "pal" or "man"

  • I know you've got enough my stupid talking xd but I came up with another argument xd there are plenty of words we don't use normally, like dragons, charms, elves, demons and so on. things we hear mostly in games, movies or read in books. but still it doesn't mean we don't need to know and understand that kind of things :D and anime is just a great source of that kind of words to learn from :D it can be useful if someone would like to write for example a fantasy novel in japanese... ^^

  • PART4 xd you see, in english... for example songs not always are great gramatically correct, and the same in real life not everybody speaks like robot, thinking about if he's gramatically correct. but either way, formal, informal, polite or rude we understand each other, and this is what (IHMO) means to be fluent in language, it's to be able to watch japanese programmes, movies, anime, read japanese papers, books, manga, listen to japanese songs and finally speak to japanese people :D ALL in one

  • goddamn word limit xd

and I know I'm right because I can observe that on myself and it works fine for me and I bet there are plenty of people who feels the same way :D It's like my english... almost all of my knowledge came from movies, series, songs and so on. combined with learning in school of course. and I guess the same goes with japanese.

  • I ran out of signs, but I'm gonna write more xd

you gave this example of speaking in unappropriate way to Japanese man. But hello, there are plenty of different characters in anime, and lots of them use formal and polite speech and so on. Like I said, if you know what it's all about and know basics of grammar, watching anime and listening to the language helps a lot. listening and translating japanese songs helps either :D

  • Well you have some point there, but look. If you combine learning gramma, words and so on from for example some internet courses AND watching anime with subtitles etc. it can be very helpful, and I say this from my own personall view, because it helps me, really really helps me :D

When I know what japanese is all about I can let's say 'absorb' new words or phrases, or examples of using things I was reading about on some web course and so on and so forth :D

  • omg you have a dutch flag in the background!! netherlands!! nedherlands!! netherlands!!

sorry... i had to do that...

  • do watching japanese soap operas count? XD lol

  • when you explained that you are still learning japanese

    1. can you please write that in romanji please? ( ^^)

i would like to study that sentence, so i can use it.

btw, its a bit sadd i know the particles, i know Kanji (not all)

yet i can never get a sentence perfect.

    2. Have any reccomendations???

  • @Unicornzilla from 3:00 to 3:06 ^^

  • thankyou for posting this! I'm going to start studying GCSE Japanese at my college and I'm really looking forward to it, I really agree with the idea that self - teaching boosts more confidence, so I'm hoping that somehow I will be able to boost mine :) speaking tests aren't really my strong point, what tips could you give for bettering speaking skills?

  • @KatieDeacon1993 speaking was really my weak point up until i got to Japan as well. One thing I heard works but i never really tried was when watching something (preferably the news or jdrama, NOT ANIME) to mimic what they are saying line for line. Even if you don't know what they are saying, it is good for your tongue and brain to get used to the motions of Japanese words coming out of YOUR mouth. Good luck and have fun! :)

  • gaaaaaaaaaaay

  • @alicheddadi no sorry!!!

  • you are so strange! but good.

  • @TheMasturCheef thanks? lol

  • @cruxay どういたしまして! ^^

  • @cruxay どういたしまして!^^

  • hey cruxay i am 12 years old and have just finished yr 7 and I really want to learn japanese as i just feel drawn to it as it is everywhere and it sounds awesome do you have anytips for me?

  • your so kawii :D

  • mu secret of learning japanese is that i whant to, i love it, and i know then that i can do it ;D

  • why didnt you learn chinese/manderian instead of japanese?

  • wow, this is the epitome of Narcissism.

  • @yyjune1 do you mind if i like this comment? :)

  • I have many friends in Japan that can teach me Japanese and I can learn some online and also download some audio Japanese learning. Cool mix. Japanese, Irish and Scottish.

  • Would J-Dramas J-Teen Dramas be more of a realistic way to learn Japanese without subtitles of course, because I don't watch anime.

  • Thanks for the tip... i really helpful & realistic...

  • So handsome *o*

  • you are such a cockey person. God! and I am learning Japanese, It's easy! all you do is youtube converter and convert pod cast type stuff, and then ut it on your i-pod and listen to it once your asleep and it sinks in over the nughts, but you must listen every night, its a scientifically proven fact! xx

  • Thats not my reason- but i know some fans who are still on the right track with their work.

  • woah dude, but i cant see any sense in this video... :D

    ごめんね。

  • @Tokaiiii no need to apologize... :D

  • @cruxay

    :D

anyway, the song 島唄/九州男 in your okinawa video is gorgeous :D

  • you kind of look like me haha

  • are you hapa?

  • This is an interesting video!

Oh! It has official been 2 years since you posted it! lol.

( I am such a loser for noticing that)

Your point of view is very good. Thanks for sharing it with everyone on YouTube- even though some people don't take a liking to it.

  • @MizukiShinju thanks man. its okay =) I don't mind the hate. Over the internet hate only equates to jealousy. ppl just trying to bring someone down with petty words and insults to make them feel more fulfilled with how little they have actually accomplished in life. Thanks for sharing my views and I hope you continue to keep up with my vids =)

  • you want to marry with me *.*?

  • what are some ways....tips to self teaching....i get tones down btw cuz my neighbor lived in japan and helps me every now and then but i need study haits to help me learn

  • are u half asian?

  • @ikkics09 sometimes!

  • HAHAHA!!! Had to post again...just got to the bit (at about 6:10) about your GF - my wife is native Japanese, and I find the same thing happening to ME!!

While I can speak to my classmates - and my friends in Japan - just fine, I tense up and get sort of shy when it comes to my wife and her family!!

She knows this and thinks it's "cute", so she goes pretty easy on me : )

  • @pal3456 thought i replied to ur comment a while ago... guess not tho. sry about that. Thanks for seeing things my way :) haha... or seeing things your way? lol

  • O. M. G.

    You are my new hero!!

I have been preaching the reasons (IE "learning" from anime) for YEARS.

It all falls on deaf ears.

  • im also studying japanese in my university, im in 2 level of 6 (7,8,9 levels are opcionals) and i love it :D, i decided to study that cuz i always love asian culture i dont know why but thats true, and im always listen visual kei music and that really helpme with the pronunciation of some word and things like that. now i need the asian girldfriend :P haha i just kiddin haha byeee men

  • great lesson... why croatian flag? jesi li mozda hrvat?? ^_^

  • How old were you when you learn

  • wow your great so smart and i agree with the anime thing i first started liking the Japanese culture after watching some anime and wondering what some of the things in the anime so i started to read more about it and now i love most of the culture and life styles

  • this is exactly why I go to borders and just read the book on how to speak, because anime isnt the most reliable source of information to learn the language, btw 2:51 was funny lol

  • Croatian =D

  • Are you replying to someone else's comment but clicked reply on mine by accident or should I reword my last question?

  • What is your personal reason behind your learning of Japanese, cruxay? =3

When I was little, I was oh-so obsessed with anime but over time I more or less grew out of it and am more oriented toward Japan's culture and am facinated with the language and writing system itself, though I've only mastered hiragana so far.

Is my reasoning alright or since I grew out of anime, do you think after rigorous studying I'll grow out of wanting to learn Japanese entirely?

  • 大爆笑だあなたが面白いアメリカ人.そして、はいているアニメ良好であり、我々得たしない使用する字幕が大爆笑だそう!

  • You have more intonation/vocal dynamics and personality when you're speaking Japanese... why? Is it because it's essential to the language (as with Mandarin) or is it just because that's how -you- speak Japanese?

  • another thing too, assuming an anime interested individual becomes fluent..all new doors will open to him/her. New uses for their new found ability that never occurred to them at the time...Don't discourage..

  • life's too short to care about a "justifiable" reason to learn a language. The very thing of becoming bilingual is enough reason to justify it. Yeah I wanna watch anime and yeah I wanna read manga...there's nothing wrong with that, and you shouldn't discourage people for having an interest in it. As if it's a "childish" reason or something... whatever dude becoming fluent in another language can never be a bad thing no matter what the reason. also animes come in all varities..man dont sterotype

  • thank you!

you wrote that so well i didnt have to responde to this video myself.

    -fellow AJATTer x

  • I think someone really should make a response video to this...because this kind of attitude is waaay too prominent. the fact that this guy got 4.5 stars for this is proof of that. but yeah man power to the AJATT!

  • mmmm im not too sure about the video response dude,

like khatz says, just tell people their right cuz thats all they wanna hear anyway.

we could spell out to this guy and the people rating it why this is wrong, but all that is effectively doing is taking more time away from our AJATTing! lol

i say let them find out how we did.

  • yeah you're right. you make a very good point. I get too hung up on trying to "correct" people, that in the end you're right the one losing out is me in my time that could be spent elsewhere. ありがとうな。 では、僕達は頑張ろうぜ!

  • lol you guys are too funny! Let's all go hang out and watch raw anime and pretend like we know what's going on! (oh wait... only problem is I WOULD understand what is going on!! so I can't participate... sho sholli!) But seriously guys: Good luck!

  • actually i would also understand a great deal of it. and my comprehension is growing all the time!

and thats just after about 6 months of complete immersion in japanese language.

...and guess what else!?? ive never cracked a japanese text book or had any formal (or informal) japanese tuition.

so, who's really the funny one? how long have you been studying again? ;)

  • @cruxay 私はなぜuがuはJPのuを知っているという理由だけでuは愚かな雌犬は、私が約2年間のJPを学習してきたと私は考えていない大したことないです誇示する必要はありませんと言っていたかわからない、そのような大きな契約

  • @ichigokunx for the record children: google translate doesn't always work that well.

  • hey dude i still do the same thing with my family.

i spend way too much time trying to convince them of something that will always be counter intuitive to them because of what they have always been taught to believe about language.

again to (roughly) quote khatz ( i think it was him) " everyone will have an opinion, but none of them will ever try!"

  • @FranksAJATT Will you're right, I don't think he was saying that, just saying he does not recommend trying to learn a language through anime.

  • @FranksAJATT ya 'also animes come in all varieties'

    uh.... excuse me???

i think u meant 'also animes come in all WRONG varieties' or 'also animes come in all UNUSED linguistic varieties'

I never said it's wrong to watch anime,

but another good way to practice might be fixing it to everyday Japanese

but before that, LEARN THE BASICS!!!

life is not that short to not be able to learn another language

if you work hard enough u could be speaking simple but fluently in less than a year

  • @clarion106

ive come a long way since i commented on here. and ive actually gotten pretty good at reading and listening. なめるな! ^_^ 俺は多分お前よりずっと上手ですよ。

  • And for last, swear words are simply based on a perception. Just go by the logic "what came first" question. People didn't suddenly start to think "hey damn, we are so fkn pissed, we should invent a new word to express our frustration". The word came first, then it got used multiple times in a bad manner, then it got marked as a swear word.

So perhaps there are enough actual swear words in Japanese, but they aren't recognised as swearing. In addition, one swear word is "bakka". It means idiot.

  • You freaking bakka.....j/k.

  • Second, Anime does help you to enhance your Japanese. Yes it's far from perfect, but it does help you in some degree. Though your learning methods will never suffice if you base your studies from ONLY Anime.

Just consider Anime as a side thing in your learning process and you'll be fine, as in not learning grammatics with it ...but just individual words.

Check out AkitaTom on YouTube, if you are interested in how to learn Japanese stuff. He has got some handy ways here and there in his videos.

  • The video has got a quite realistic perspective on things like, what a positve and general accepted motivation is, for you how to like Japan and co. But, sadly he needs to make the perspective come forth out of a pessimistic attitude.

People should go follow their goals what they think is best and let them selfs bump their head eventually, that is if they really do turn out to be doing "wrong".

  • AHA, so bad:

"My girlfriend is half Japanese, half Irish, in other words: Canadian"

    Hey, fuck you man.

  • Hvala na korisnim savjetima.

Thank you for the useful advice.

    Pozdrav iz Hrvatske!

  • u almost look like mibu from fuuma no kojiro live action series

  • I've only heard your first reason and I just agree with you. Reading manga and watching anime It's for otaku, not for people who are seriously interested in the language. Sure anime and manga are a part of japanese culture, but you can't go around Japan talking like an anime characters lol

  • Thanks for the great advice!

  • croatia!

btw the ore-sama "天才" (tensai) + anime otaku alert was soooo funny!!!

laughed at it even the third time I heard it !!XD

(probably because I heard something similar when Sakuragi of SlamDunk speaks about his being a genius! xDD)

  • Put a bullet thru the head. lol

  • Great advice and serious insight. Thanks for posting.

  • Your a pretty smart kid, but not that smart....

Yes thats true that people use each other to learn things off of... also if you look on the internet the best way to learn Japanese is to start off with anime or manga... Its for starters... everyone knows japanese people are the nicest people in the world... your not gonna walk up to someone and say bitch then walk away...Japanese is great for starters... But the Best is TV...also other people when u go to japan... look out they dont like you.. :(

  • ajatt doht com

That's all you need to learn Japanese.

    マジで、お薦めします。

  • lol i learned atleast 100 words from watching subbed anime back in the day...... before i started grappling the language seriously.

anyone who says you dont learn anything from anime at all is a dumbass....

  • @TehKazangsta i have learned a couple of words from watching anime i just started watching anime this year =]

  • @TehKazangsta seriously this guys a douche, who is he to tell somebody how and why to learn japanese, this guy wants to be japanese so bad, he gets a japanese haircut, eats curry rice, which little kids eat, and learns japanese

  • @TehKazangsta haha that's what i do! it gives me an excuse to watch fullmetal all day XD

  • *sigh* i was actually going to take japanese class next semester because my stupid college does not offer Hangul. Thank you, you have scared me to death about taking it now...lol....but no really thanks! now i know what to expect if i really do take it. and your right self taught is better because their arent any test you'll have to worry about. great blogs!

  • Do you speak Croatian?

    Pozdrav iz Hrvatske! :-)

  • Oh my! I love this 'anime otaku alert'! So hilarious! ;)

You seems to be such a good pearson and talk so cleverly, it's hard to disagree with you on any point. Good job ;)

  • how is it easier for people who self-study to speak?

  • damn I wish my Japanese teacher would looks like you

  • wow your hot. (ok im done)

anywho ive baught books and im doing the training sessions at japanesepod101 and im trying not to count on romaji to much

  • Japanese chicks are hotter then fat Americans, i am so learning XD

  • XDDD

people really want to learn japanese to get a japanese girlfriend? that's so dumb!

    oh jeez.

i agree with your opinions. Personally I want to learn Japanese because I love the language and culture and I've wanted to go to Japan for a long time. Anime and manga are ok but to learn Japanese for that alone? That's like learning English just to watch Superman or Batman in English. i see no logic in that. XD

  • ahh 谷原章介! where you get that show??

    i really want it ^^

    教えて下さい!お願いします^-^

    谷原章介大好き ^^

  • Well im not learning Japanese because of anime/manga.. XD ive always liked Japan since i was 3 years old.. and wasting money on overpriced textbooks and hard work seems to work for me .. XD

  • you must be humble in japan

  • Comment removed

  • You caught me at the anime part

  • You are so right, if only my friends would listen to me when I tell them (pretty much) the same things.

    lol

  • Great video! But I only half agree to the thing about learning from anime. Everyone knows the grammar is way different and the translation is sometimes wrong. But you can still pick up a few words that are correct.

  • Oh yeah haahaa...I one day plucked up the courage to try some of the Italian I'd been learning on my native Italian grandparents and all they did was crack up laughing. It totally broke me...

  • yeah you really can't learn that much by just watching animes or dramas. but i don't know to some people, we learn in different kind of ways :)

  • I have to agree with fdsfdaafsd you can learn from anime at least some, and yes some of it is incorrect but if you learn from many sources especially written stuff or regular tv you will have not only learned how to speak but perhaps more importantly how not to speak. And I had always thought self-taught people could write better (or at least faster), most people who I've met who have taken courses will take like 2 minutes to write a sentence.

  • For a textbook, I've had many recommendations of Genki. It's a really really good textbook. I didn't buy it only because I already have MANY textbooks on Japanese but if you're trying to start out, Genki is the way to go.

  • i‹3u

  • I'm learning In high school and you learn all of your written stuff and your able to read. I could write it all down but no way would I be able to fluently speak it. More like fluently write it haha.

Maybe I'll just have to buy some Japanese Magazines or something. lol

  • In regards to the Kanji thing you should Try the Heisig method it doesn't sound so amazing but the results are amazing I've gained literacy with it in approximately six months ( able to write and readd the onyomi for the 1945 joyo kanji )

  • it ws better long like dis y u cut it omg o well it still okks mnice

  • omfg i lov ure hair i know im weird but i plan to make my hair like dat butin da otha vid y u cut ure hair

  • I do want to learn Japanese, not because of the animes, but because of the culture, food, and how nice the language sounds. So far, I have yet to memorize all the katakana, and even a single kanji, and I only know a few words, but I still watch Japanese videos. With subs, though, but I actually have learned a bit from them.

  • My mom also told me that, just by watching Spanish movies and listening to

Spanish music a lot for some time, she actually knew more than people who just study for years. Really proves that you can learn a lot more if you are not bored. The Japanese videos I watch are hilarious, and I would definitely rather watch them than take boring courses. I do have some books, though, and I do use them, but the videos, I think, can really help.

  • studying on your own time really does give you more of a drive to actually do the work. in my spanish class at school, i'd always distract myself because it got so boring with doing the hard drills and such every day. but when i'm learning a language because i genuinely want to, i'll put in the extra time for studying at night and such. but people should totally listen to your statement about watching real japanese shows instead of anime to help with learning.

  • wow, thanks for your unsupported and completely unprofessional opinion!

basically, read up on stephen krashen's (a real professional linguist, with opinions that count for something!) input hypothesis theory to discover why almost everything you just said ( 'the negative reasons for learning' ) are completely wrong.

there are american people living in japan right now speaking the language fluently because they spent hours watching anime! (the trick is to do it without subtitles!)

  • EMO !!!

  • dude shut the fuck up and die

  • you've pretty much hit it right on the spot on self study and university study.

I can't speak Japanese well to save my life, but with two years of serious study, I could easily navigate around Japan reading Kanji.

  • dude buy Remembering the Kanji
