this movie sucked ass. simple as that. uninteresting. boring. he fights that big thingy for like 6 minutes and its over. the story about his father is supposed to be a big deal apparently but as far as it actually mattering in the movie it was almost irrelevant.
Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Mark Strong do indeed try their best, but even they cannot help the mediocrity of the script and the poor special effects. I know I was not the only individual in the audience who laughed while looking at Ryan Reynolds in the Emerald Knight's suit.

My God, I agree. Although I have not seen the movie (ha), I work at a movie theater and every time I walk in to do theater checks or just pass time, its looks terrible. Why would they make a Green Lantern movie before they make a Flash movie? Everyone likes the Flash. Green Lantern's power is making shit, what fun is that?

The story lines for the villains were pretty close to the original ideas. As for Hal being able to do what the others could not that was the point, Hal the crazy test pilot with no fear does something bat shit crazy to save the day, that was signature Green Lantern.

This movie was great. Though Hal Jordan was not portrayed the best way Ryan Reynolds still gives off a great performance and he is not too comedic he just says some funny stuff. Otherwise, this movie is also very serious. The only thing i didn't like was how it wasn't too much like the comic but it sill was very close. I recommend watching this movie 100%. Watch IT!

The movie was tooo short so they just rushed evrything. The bigggest letdown for me was that i was expecting a giant action sequence at the end which involved most of the GLs. The action sequences arent even that good.

As a big fan of the green lantern franchise, I enjoyed the film and the casting but felt that if there was only one chance to do such a film, then once the origin plotting was done, the first film should have gone with the Sinestro storyline. That said its good to see that the studio is still forging ahead with a sequel despite the negative backlash that the first film seemed to unfairly receive before it was even premiered.
i really didnt think the movie was that bad it was better then last stand but not as great as batman begins or dark knight or first class but it was okay as an orgin movie the movie did fall short on villians but the action was good check it in 2d cause its a thousand time better the main problem is we dont get to see alot of the core or the power of the ring in battle but we do have a few good chaceter devlopment which is okay acting was good as action its good i give it 4\5 lantern rings .
This review is spot-on. I thought it was not a good enough super-hero movie. Although I don't agree with you on Hector Hammond. I think him & Synestro were the best thing about the movie. As you so well put it: They weren't given that much to do.
The whole movie was cool. Paralax and Hammond were kind dumb but what else are you gonna do for an origin story? I give it 4&1/2 stars out of 5. Go see the movie.

You all want to know why this movie gets bad reviews like that? I just returned from watching it in 3D and what I can say is that the action scenes were good. The problem is, there is about 20 minutes in the movie overall that are true action scenes. Before that, they're basicaly setting the story up and ultimately leading to a Greend Lantern 2 (If the first one did good I guess.) The thing that pissed a lot of people off is that all that story telling is... too much unbelievable, even for Dc =/
Marvel studios & Fox want people to believe comic book movies should be more realistic then fantasy, they love their realistic superheroes. Thor & X-Men are movies that are based on comic book characters. GL's a true CBM. One thing we can agree on is It's unbelievable, which is not a bad thing at all. BTW, unbelievable is what CBMs should be. They shouldn't hide from fiction. Comic books are fiction, not reality! It's a fun summer movie, not the first of a retelling of the godfather trilogy!
When I said unbelievable, I didn't mean unrealistic or non-fantastic. I meant that even for a fantasy story, some things like how they let the little newbie kill the bad guy all alone when there's an entire army available and only come to save him at the very end are very... unlikely.
Other than some details like that, I agree that it IS a fun movie to watch.

I watched this review and read reviews before going to see Green Lantern and went in with a feeling that it was gonna suck, but what I learned from watching Green Lantern was don't listen to critics don't let them decide for you go see it for yourself then have your opinion. I personally loved it, it tells the origin story of Hal Jordan well not as fleshed out as the comic but still well told all in all a very good and fun movie based on one of my favourite superheroes I highly recommend

I think some people are being sheep and hating it. And some people wanted a triumphant epic masterpiece like Dark Knight. I liked Green Lantern because it wasn't up it's ass about being a hero or having the hero being a stone strong person. It wasn't afraid to have stupid humor or be a bit of a parody.
I loved the movie for what it was. A 3D feast and a good action story. Reynolds: 5/5. Special Effects: 5/5. Plot: 3.5/5

wolverine and elctra were better ? really? i dont think soo, every xmen movie & the movie xmen origins i saw was sooo lame and extremely boring that at one stage i didnt want to see another marvel movie again. Electra was terrible. green lantern is definately a lot better. especially the effects dominate its superhero mvie competition. Xmen was shit.electra was shit. daredevil was average, thor was good, wolverine xmen orgins was avergae. i think GL was very well done :)

@ alexander33345. Well number one he was not trained in 5 min obviously, you really want a movie with nothing but Hal learning how to use his ring? The story lines for the villains were pretty close to the original ideas. As for Hal being able to do what the others could not that was the point, Hal the crazy test pilot with no fear does something bat shit crazy to save the day, that was signature Green Lantern.

It is obvious for anybody that hated this movie they walked in wanting to hate it and paid no attention to the story. This movie was great. Though Hal Jordan was not portrayed the best way Ryan Reynolds still gives off a great performance and he is not too comedic he just says some funny stuff. Otherwise, this movie is also very serious. The only thing i didn't like was how it wasn't too much like the comic but it sill was very close. I recommend watching this movie 100%. Watch IT!

This movie was horrible and the story-line was completely off. This movie was totally of with the origin story of Hal jordan. Hal Jordan was chosen because he had no fear. Kyle Rayner was chosen because he could over come it. Hal Jordan didn't destroy Parallax either. He absorbed it and lost control, later attempted galactic genocide and was destroyed in the process making Kyle Rayner the new green lantern for a positive fact. And that was only one of the problems with the movie

The movie was tooo short so they just rushed evrything. The bigggest letdown for me was that i was expecting a giant action sequence at the end which involved most of the GLs. The action sequences arent even that good.

The movie was total shit, it really was. Nothing happens and when something does happen, it makes zero sense. It was just an absolute mess, even though it had 200 million dollars AND a great director and great cast.

As a big fan of the green lantern franchise, I enjoyed the film and the casting but felt that if there was only one chance to do such a film, then once the origin plotting was done, the first film should have gone with the Sinestro storyline. That said its good to see that the studio is still forging ahead with a sequel despite the negative backlash that the first film seemed to unfairly receive before it was even premiered.

i really didnt think the movie was that bad it was better then last stand but not as great as batman begins or dark knight or first class but it was okay as an orgin movie the movie did fall short on villians but the action was good check it in 2d cause its a thousand time better the main problem is we dont get to see alot of the core or the power of the ring in battle but we do have a few good chaceter devlopment which is okay acting was good as action its good i give it 4\5 lantern rings .

You all want to know why this movie gets bad reviews like that? I just returned from watching it in 3D and what I can say is that the action scenes were good. The problem is, there is about 20 minutes in the movie overall that are true action scenes. Before that, they're basicaly setting the story up and ultimately leading to a Greend Lantern 2 (If the first one did good I guess.) The thing that pissed a lot of people off is that all that story telling is... too much unbelievable, even for Dc =/

Marvel studios & Fox want people to believe comic book movies should be more realistic then fantasy, they love their realistic superheroes. Thor & X-Men are movies that are based on comic book characters. GL's a true CBM. One thing we can agree on is It's unbelievable, which is not a bad thing at all. BTW, unbelievable is what CBMs should be. They shouldn't hide from fiction. Comic books are fiction, not reality! It's a fun summer movie, not the first of a retelling of the godfather trilogy!

When I said unbelievable, I didn't mean unrealistic or non-fantastic. I meant that even for a fantasy story, some things like how they let the little newbie kill the bad guy all alone when there's an entire army available and only come to save him at the very end are very... unlikely.
Other than some details like that, I agree that it IS a fun movie to watch.

How in the fuck do they expect to succeed when they don't put in the necessary time to develop a solid story and effective special effects?!? I mean, they sure fucking did with The Dark Knight, then what the fuck happened with Green Lantern?!? It just doesn't make any sense. Harry Potter is succeeding because of the time and care taken.

Don't get me wrong, Thor and X-Men WERE better than this (and Cap is my most anticipated film of the year), and I love both Marvel and DC, but come on, this movie was EXACTLY what the trailer promised. I don't understand the hate. It was fun. If you were expecting another Dark Knight, that's YOUR fault for being a fucking moron. It was fun, not a GREAT film, but a good time.

@NothingSpecialMusic1 I would disagree about Thor & XMFC. GL was the better film. So Thor & FC were good but they never really had a theme to it like GL did. We can agree on pretty much everything else. So the so called critics & actual critics need to get off their high horses & stop tearing this movie to shreds because it wasn't exactly what you wanted. CBMs need to stay the course with source material & GL did that, not nitpick & go offtrack from the source material like the others did.

I watched this review and read reviews before going to see Green Lantern and went in with a feeling that it was gonna suck, but what I learned from watching Green Lantern was don't listen to critics don't let them decide for you go see it for yourself then have your opinion. I personally loved it, it tells the origin story of Hal Jordan well not as fleshed out as the comic but still well told all in all a very good and fun movie based on one of my favourite superheroes I highly recommend

I think some people are being sheep and hating it. And some people wanted a triumphant epic masterpiece like Dark Knight. I liked Green Lantern because it wasn't up it's ass about being a hero or having the hero being a stone strong person. It wasn't afraid to have stupid humor or be a bit of a parody.
I loved the movie for what it was. A 3D feast and a good action story. Reynolds: 5/5. Special Effects: 5/5. Plot: 3.5/5
